My first thought of european fairy tales was Lil Red Riding Hood. Obviously you can make the groomer granny wolf Wesker, but I have already done a scsp version of this. But it would be more interesting if Chris was a houndwolf since he's so dog coded. Big chungus wolf trying to stop lil' Red from unleashing her picnic basket full of bumworms LOL.

Another thought is Snow White, since the evil queen was one of my formative crushes. A swerve for that could be Chris as the hunter, not the princess. Evil bitch queen Weskie, loyal huntsman. Until he comes back empty handed, without the princess's heart 🙀 there is fun symbolism to be done with the poison apple (calling back to adam n eve seduced by the serpent's apple), and the pig's heart.

This again reminds me of Eggers Nosferatu and Labyrinth, both of which have fairy tale structure, but also reminds me why I prefer yaoi and yuri most of the time... When it's a dude monster x girl, the girl is almost always portrayed as physically weak and emotionally incapable. Even if "oh at the end she is the dom cuz she tells the monster what to do which is roleplay the daddy dom", that's not my personal kink especially with the "imbalance" of dude/girl relationships.

J prefer to have a lot more physical capability, but be too brain-stupid to be able to resist the seductress. Hence why gorl scout must have the kitty spoih on a leash, or how Kagome has Inuyasha on command. Or why it is tastier when Chris would be physically strong enough to overpower a non-bumwormed Wesker, but he's too soft in his lil heart and just has to cry out "WESKER!" when the evil bumworm man gets impaled by his own Tyrant.

It feels less thoughtful when Barry does it for Jill LMAO cuz Barry is such a goofy fuck up goon, he's trying to get you/Jill killed while Wesker is trying to prolong you/Chris's suffering through the mansion.

My fave thing is when game mechanics feed directly into character interaction, no matter how much fans who only watch tiktok shorts feel about how "non canon" the gameplay that makes up the game is.

Chris's own giving "love language" would be Acts Of Service. He shows familial love to Claire by taking care of her and having her back. He shows totally platonic boy to girl type friend love to Jill by taking care of her and having her back. And, well, if he was a good cop for cap'n Wesker I'm sure he would do the swat mission he was assigned to do. Like Wesker says "go check out that room, and the mansion, and put on this dog collar to get the key from it" and Chris is like ok dude.

Wesker appreciates Acts Of Service. He doesn't care about fawning, he really doesn't give a fuck about Excella slobbin on his knob or his random henchmen goons talking to him. But he does appreciate when things go according to plan, because his goons do their dang job. He likes when Chris does his job so he can observe him.

But even more than that, he loves quality time with his object of interest... He's very one-sided and narccisistic in that way, he could just sit in the basement and stare at the tyrant and be happy cuz he made that, even if the tyrant doesn't talk back. Same goes with Chris as an object of interest. He will goon over the security cameras about how well Chris has done in the mansion with the training WESKER gave him, because it reflects well on WESKER. Very masturbatory, American Psycho looking in the mirror. And boy does Wesker love to yap at Chris and monologue, even if he knows Chris doesn't understand. He's so happy and smiley everytime he sees Chris.. The presence of the minion, seeing his experiment play out. Quality time with the experiment injecting it wity T virus.

Some fans may protest when reminded of Dale's original characterization as a racist, sexist right wing conspiracy theorist. Of course, that charactization simmers down after s1 because the writers said they couldn't keep making it funny, but there's still hints of his racism in later episodes.

One example I was reminded of, while watching a dog show and thus reminded that a dog called the "Rhodesian Ridgeback" exists:

Dale subscribes to Soldier of Fortune magazine, named in this episode and referenced in the title:

Soldier of Fortune itself is an older term simply meaning mercenary, and Dale is trying to be a merc in this episode. The Soldier of Fortune brand magazine meanwhile is known for its connection to the country of "Rhodesia". The magazine was explicitly founded to recruit white men to fight in Africa to found this illegitimate racist country of "Rhodesia", where it was marketed to white men as a paradise where women and non-white people (especially those of African descent) would "know their place"

Now why would Dale put an ad for himself as a gun for hire in this magazine? 😉

Soldier of Fortune was ostensibly intended for mercenaries and "professional adventurers", but Brown admitted that the majority of the readers of Soldier of Fortune were the "Walter Mitty market", referring to men who merely fantasized about being mercenaries. In 2018, American historian Kyle Burke wrote that the popularity of Soldier of Fortune was due to white male backlash against the rise of feminism and the rise of the civil rights movement, and that the majority of the readers of Soldier of Fortune were white men who resented feminists and "uppity" non-white people, especially African Americans.

It's easy to explain that Dale's "flanderized" kooky personality in the later seasons is part of the "Walter Mitty Market. He's trying to create a persona for himself, though it is incoherent like dressing as noted communist Hunter S. Thompson (Dale prolly just likes Hunter's views on guns lol) while threatening to kill Peggy for being a feminist lib teaching sex ed, but also wishing he were Indigenous because white boys love to fantasize about being a lil less vanilla. Hank says it in the episode where Dale gets mistaken for an active shooter - he talks a big talk, but he wouldn't hurt anyone really.

Of course, the active shooter episodes does end with Dale admitting he WOULD shoot Hank. And then shoot himself. And Nancy comments several times on how Dale depends so much of his ego and personality on killing things smaller than he is (hence the pest extermination business). So Dale is confirmed to have a violent side. It's just good that he has friends and a family to keep him stable.

You could say that Dale's mentally ill violence is an ableist depiction too. Depicting a paranoid guy with explicitly stated mental disorders as a danger to other humans, when IRL people with mental disorders are more often than not the ones being hurt, is absolutely a negative stereotype in media. But I also think it's interesting to take racism into account, before one praises the Unabomber or Charlie Manson for being anti society lol.

One of the reasons Dale's character mellowed out is possibly because his actor, Johnny Hardwick, was one of the staff writers. In the KOTH behind-the-scenes, his fellow voice artists state that he wasn't shy about his politics and that he had some similar anti-government views. And one can surmise from Hardwick's youtube channel that he was not a right-wing conspiracy theorist like Dale's early character, he seemed more like he was conspiring that the right-wing politicians were conspiring against him!

The writers seem to push more of the voice artists's personalities into the characters as the show goes on (like John Redcorn being in a band or dating older white women for survival, similar to his actor), so it's possible that Dale got more Hardwick in him as time went on. I also think it was easier to write more episodes in the long run if Dale more likeable and sweet, there's more potential for "down-to-earth" character-based stories when he's more than bomb threats and treating his wife like a maid.

I hope that it would be more acceptable to state that blorbos like Medic TF2 are inspired by the medical mal-experimentation of Germany towards prisoners during the 1940's - even if "Nazi" is a bad word that people don't want to associate with their cute little blorbo.
