this past weekend, a friend and i organized a little fundraiser/letter-writing campaign to raise money for our local rapid response org and to write to our local representatives to adopt sanctuary policies
i put together this zine last-minute for the event and wanted to share it here. while this zine is tailored and specific to one area, feel free to take inspiration from it or straight up paste your own community's information over it and make it your own :)
the zine is available on my ko-fi to download for free

btw i'm thinking about making a little zine/guide with info & advice on how to make & format zines in procreate. i already have "the stupid bitch's guide to making zines" which is more of a brief, holistic approach to coming up with ideas for zines and organizing that information into a zine (originally just made for my sister hence the rude title).
a one-page zine describing my general zine-making process. originally designed as a crash course to teach my sister how to make zines, stupi
but i would like to make a guide that addresses more of the technical aspect like setting up digital canvases, templates, formatting, and creating print vs. digital pdfs.
if you ever have any questions on how i make, format, or print anything please don't hesitate to send an ask/message!! there were so many times where i was first learning how to make zines that i wished i had concrete advice or tutorials to follow and now that i've figured out some of what i'm doing i would love to pass that knowledge along!!
my first new zine after a long and crazy year!! night crafts is a 28-page zine about crafts you can do during the quiet hours of the night when your brain is fried and you might otherwise be tempted to doomscroll instead. the active practice of setting aside time every night to work on silly little projects did so much to help my mental health and repair my relationship with creative work as well.
i learned a lot during my small commitment to putting down my phone and picking up new hobbies, and i hope this zine will inspire you to do the same!!
you can download the digital version here, free/pwyw! i know that nobody has any money right now. that's a big reason why i don't charge for my zine downloads!
while i was trapped in chronic pain hell and living on a reduced paycheck awaiting surgery over the past year, the free crafting & hobby resources i found online helped me find joy during a time of so much darkness. sharing this zine free of charge is my way of trying to spread that joy further.
you can also support me by buying a physical copy of my zine here! all donations go a long way towards rebuilding my life post back surgery and are greatly appreciated ❤️

all my zines are free/pwyw (with the option to buy physical copies) because i've been broke my whole life and i owe so much to the people that put their hard work out there for free!!
the past year has been a nightmare for me and i'm so grateful to all the people sharing free craft/diy tutorials on the internet. making silly little things with my hands gave me sorely-needed dopamine surges and have been a welcome distraction any time i need a break from my mind or my body ❤️
i made these little mini-zines as a way of processing. well. everything going on lately in the united states lol
"make zines" is a double-sided mini zine that includes a mini poster on the inside with instructions for how i made both of these zines.
"it would do us all well to make more art" comes with an additional PDF that gives instructions on how to print, cut, and assemble the zine from one double-sided sheet of paper.
both zines are available for free/pwyw to download and print from my ko-fi shop! feel free to print them, share them, take them apart to make your own zine templates, etc.
if you'd like to order physical copies of the zines together—because you don't have access to a printer, because you want to support me, or because it's nice to get things other than spam in the mail sometimes—i'm selling the physical copies together for $5.
here's a link to my ko-fi shop if you want to check out my other work!
and i'll put my big long rant about the thoughts i had while making these zines behind a cut.
i don't think that art is the solution to all our problems or that making art is on par with direct action, protesting, forming local community networks, calling representatives, donating to mutual aid funds, etc. art isn't a free pass to avoid doing the hard stuff. especially all of the stupid, silly art that i make, like my zine about the sims games lol.
when i think of discussions about the importance of protest art, i can't help thinking about that quote from vonnegut: "during the vietnam war, which lasted longer than any war we've ever been in -- and which we lost -- every respectable artist in this country was against the war. it was like a laser beam. we were all aimed in the same direction. the power of this weapon turns out to be that of a custard pie dropped from a stepladder six feet high."
creative doubts are a very leisurely problem to have in the scheme of things.
with that being said, these zines are more of a mantra that i've developed to pull myself away from all the spiraling thoughts that come when i spend too much time online doomscrolling, or when i think about the works i've made on gender, queerness, and anti-fat bias and how pointless it all feels.
and then i remember there are both very shitty, rich people and their very shitty, indoctrinated followers that would prefer i continue to feel this way, and that i and the people like me stop existing, or at the very least stop making our existence known and stop thinking our work and joy and community is of any importance. and then out of spite i resolve to scroll less and make art more, because i'm not going to give them that kind of resignation for free.
additionally, i think zines are a really valuable tool to utilize during a time when it's getting more difficult to organize and access information online. we're coming into an age now where we're really recognizing the impermanence of the internet—from important webpages and communities being wiped from existence to the increase in online content censorship that we see from platforms trying to appear more advertiser friendly family-friendly. this inherently conflicts with the nature of the world that we find ourselves in, whether it's talking about queer bodies or the ongoing genocides. additionally, it's getting harder and harder to access news that isn't from extreme right-wing sources without running into paywalls, which makes it difficult to educate yourself and others on important topics.
but nobody can shadowban zines. if your zines get taken off the internet for whatever reason, no one can stop you from printing off physical copies and mailing them, putting them in public places, or sharing them in-person with others. zines are both ephemeral and eternal, and also a great way of turning feelings of hopelessness into hope and community that you can share with others, whether they're about important things or silly video games.
just wanted to put this out there again in light of all the bullshit going on now
this is a really helpful tumblr post on what is going on right now, plus further resources for protecting your work in another era of increased censorship:
💬 34 🔁 6230 ❤️ 6373 · Again, I know it's been extremely rough on this corner of the internet, but please consider taking at least one or t
and i'm working on a zine that i hope to release soon about the indie web and bringing zinester ethic to online spaces by making your own websites.
in the meantime, don't forget that these zines are free to download, print, and share. feel free to make them and share them with others, send the pdfs to your friends, leave copies in public places, and use them as inspiration to make your own zines.
the internet sucks now and so much of our work and community relies on social media and storefront platforms that have aligned themselves with right wing censorship and beliefs. they can take down your posts but they can't stop you from making and distributing physical zines.
been making digital collages and printing + gluing them onto cheap little notebooks. the last one is a design for a lighter wrap i want to figure out how to make for a friend :)
i've got a new zine coming out soon all about various crafts/diy projects and i'm excited to share it!!
i've been working on a lot of stuff that isn't in a shareable state yet but i just wanted to share this rough cover sketch from a zine i'm working on about the chronic pain nightmare hell that has been ruining my life for the past few months bc i really like the silly little face i drew 😭
i have so many wonderful little things that i'm excited to share, i've just been even slower than usual because i'm in constant pain and the american healthcare system is largely useless!!!! but i'm slowly learning how to live with the reality i've been dealt in the meantime, and figuring out how to make compromises with the evil, villainous back problems that rule my life niw

made a custom embroidered pin to wear to the mbmbam live show tonight based on one of my favorite vintage bits :)
i've been a big fan since the show first came out (even though i was way too young to be listening lol) and it was so cool to finally be able to see them live and have such a great time ❤️
i really only meant to post this as a silly little comic venting about all the "boy dreams" i tend to have out of nowhere (see also: this comic from my 2022 zine i was a boy on the internet)
but all the really sweet/helpful/encouraging posts both here and on reddit have kind of forced me to recognize this is something i should probably stop putting off. i had a long and unexpectedly vulnerable conversation with my therapist about what's going on and what my next steps might look like and i'm gonna keep reflecting on it and making dumb little comics about it in the meantime ❤️
made some glittery, 3x3" stickers of my crying seal baby which is available in my shop now 🦭😭✨
things have been pretty dogshit lately (my car died yesterday, my sister's car died today) so any support right now, whether it's a new sticker or buying one of my zines, would be a huge help ❤️
