Yuck yuck yuck 🤢
My dad was a straight-ticket Democrat, gave money to the ACLU, and left the Catholic church when his local parish prioritized a new, bigger church over hungry parishioners. He was VERY liberal.
He voted for Al Gore in 2000.
In 2004 (when he was 75yo) an injury forced him to spend time at an assisted living facility for rehab. The TVs there were all tuned to Fox News.
All it took was six months.
Upon his release that’s all he watched. He obsessed over Fox. Became convinced liberals were out to destroy HIS America.
From 2004 onwards I watched my liberal dad – the guy who imbued me with my beliefs and values – decline into a ranting, angry, hateful person.
He almost died alone because I told him I simply could NOT stand to hear any more about how Obama was ruining the country. He relented, and I said goodbye to him in 2011 at his hospice, only because we agreed not to discuss “politics”.
Fox News is pure 100% brainwashing. I’ve seen it up close, and it is evil.
It wasn’t Fox News with my dad, it was another evil. Talk Radio. The far right has pretty much taken over talk radio and monopolized it, and through it radicalized a lot of people. My dad worked nights, driving, so he listened to a lot of this crap. Rush Limbaugh and even worse people. There’s like, nothing on the left even close to the amount of ears these people can reach, every day and every night, spewing their hatred and their vile thoughts. Talk Radio is Fox News on steroids and both are evils that need to be addressed.
It’s important to recognize the way people are radicalized and find ways to counter it.
it gets worse when you have older family members that are stuck in a far-right town surrounded by far-right people
my grandmother is a natural liberal and lives in a red town in new york surrounded by associates at her work and job that are anti-immigration, racist, homophobic, etc. that my mom and dad constantly have to un-brainwash her of. my dad will have to retry over and over on un-brainwashing her of the anti-latino dogwhistles she swallows.
it’s everywhere you look, but it’s only worse when it leaks to other people. fox news and talk radio is widely known for not being straight up blunt with their views but rather use dog whistles, subtle imagery and wording, and warped story-telling to get people to change in just a few months. this is why you have to listen to the victims of it, listen when they tell you the dog whistles and why they’re wrong. avoid them like the plague and understand how you benefit from it and what you took in subconsciously
it’s everywhere, and you need to be actively aware of it so you don’t fall into bigoted hands

in other news trump is sending out a survey… yall know what to do
trump really rolled back healthcare protections for lgbt people during pride month AND on the day of the 4 year anniversary of the pulse nightclub shooting. i don’t know why i’m even shocked at this point but i still feel physically ill
White supremacist trying to form a straight-pride parade accidentally lets truth slip at city council meeting
This is like something straight out of Parks and Rec
Okay but using Karen for the betterment of others is a genius move I never could have seen coming
That’s not quite true. The reporter behind the story, Daphne Caruana Galizia, was murdered.
After mass protests, the Prime Minister of Iceland was forced to resign, along with many other members of the ruling party.
After mass protests, the President of Pakistan was forced to resign, along with many other members of the ruling party.
Worldwide, hundreds of people – many rich and powerful – were arrested.
Billions in stolen assets were returned to the people.
And 82 countries changed their laws to crack down on the wealth hoarding the papers revealed.
(Source here)
To say the Panama Papers accomplished nothing is an insult to Daphne Galizia’s memory. Her work, and the work of the hundreds of other journalists who contributed to the Papers, changed the world.
Disinformation like this is designed to discourage you, to make you feel you’re powerless against the monsters of the world. They want you to feel that way, because they are terrified of your power to make change.
Take your power back. Demand better. Keep fighting for a better world, because a better world is possible.

Think about this quote like all the time and how it really undermines so much shit in capitalism
Image transcript:
“But what will you do with the lazy man, the man who does not want to work?” inquires your friend.
That is an interesting question, and you will probably be very much surprised when I say that there is really no such thing as laziness. What we call a lazy man is generally a square man in a round hole. That is, the right man in the wrong place, And you will always find that when a fellow is in the wrong place, he will be inefficient or shiftless. For so-called laziness and a good deal of inefficiency are merely unfitness, misplacement. If you are compelled to do the thing you are unfitted for by your inclinations or temperament, you will be inefficient at it; if you are forced to do work you are not interested in, you will be lazy at it.

ok very funny guys. you got me. now seriously who left all these neurotypicals in charge of the mental health field
who left all these healthy doctors in charge of the hospital
is literally what this sounds like
God, can you imagine how awful that would be? People with amputations consulting on things like prosthesis?
People in wheelchairs designing living and working spaces for people with mobility issues?
Autistic people actually trying to help other autistic people?
OMG, just thing – wouldn’t ti be awful if people who are now in remission actually helped manage the pain and other symptoms that come with having and treating cancer?
I mean seriously, what on Earth do any of those people really have to add to the discussion? What could they possibly know that an able-bodied neurotypical wouldn’t already know? I mean, experience doesn’t teach all that much!
/end sarcasm.
My care for EDS got radically better when my doctor’s kid was diagnosed.
Dr. Marsha M. Linehan more or less reinvented the field of behavioral therapy after spending years being treated to the worst 1950-60s psychiatry had to offer. She created the system now known as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, now considered one of the most effective treatments for suicidal and self-destructive behaviors, as well as pretty much any other form of mental illness or mood/behavior disorders. She was able to do all of this BECAUSE she’s self-diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, not in spite of it.
i really hope that no protesters/rioters know that grabbing the bottom of a police officers riot shield and flipping it up will push the officer on his back, rendering him immobile due to the weight of his riot gear :(( that would be an awful thing to know and terrible information to spread :((((
on another note, i really hope protesters/rioters don’t find out that you can buy plywood from home depot from 9-30$ and make your signs out of that, and use it to deflect and shield yourself from rubber bullets :((( noooo don’t do that :(((
also, wouldn’t it be awful if protesters/rioters found out that if you put a traffic cone over a tear gas grenade and pour water into the traffic cone, the tear gas will neutralize, rendering it completely inoperable? :(((((( don’t do that! :((( /s
