Karen knows where the good shit is
the "came back wrong" trope except like... they didnt. like this mad scientists wife died, and so he studied necromancy, brought her back, and she came back and it all worked. like she came back exactly the same as she was before with literally no difference. but the scientist guy is like "oh no... what have i done.... shes Different now!!!! she came back Wrong!!!!" and shes just like. chilling. reading a book. cooking dinner. shes just so so normal but in the guys mind hes like "oh shes soooo weird" but shes just normal

NO its a JOKE and YOU DONT GET IT. ITS NOT THAT DEEP
While she was dead he put his memory of her on such a high pedestal that she could never live up to it alive
alternatively‚ she came back perfectly fine but he thinks she came back wrong‚ because the tragic reality is that he never actually knew his wife
im going INSANE thats MY POST.
It's your post but the journey to posting it changed it to such a degree that even its closest intimacies are now foreign to you. Sorry dude.

imagine you're a child, you learn your queer and your parents are extremely bigoted. you have some friends on Roblox who are very kind, they're in their early 20s and they sympathize as they went through the same things as a kid. they offer to use your correct name and pronouns, maybe some even offer to buy you a binder or help you find hrt or support groups local to you
roblox rolls out their age group system, and you can no longer talk to any adults on the platform. you can only talk to people in person, i.e. your parents, who are horrid. now you're back at square one, being helplessly abused. to make it worse, you're homeschooled, as I was. you can't reach out to anyone at school for support either.
or maybe you're not homeschooled, and you ask your pronouns to be used at school. it goes well for a while, and you feel some relief.
then your state passes a bill that requires forced outing. your teachers report to your parents that you've been trying out a different name and pronouns.
they pull you from school, send you to boarding school or conversion therapy, and force you to attend private schools in the future that match their values.
you are entirely under their control. you could've made connections with other adults, ones willing to help you out. to treat you like a human, give you access to life saving care. and it's stripped away, you're alone, and everything feels hopeless.
this is the reality for many children. this is almost exactly what I went through as a child. it is not a mere hypothetical, it happens regularly. please stop falling for this moral grandstanding, it's about control- it's always been about control.
and what's fucked is if you're an adult and you care about this, some people think you must be a predator. like nobody could possibly care sincerely about something we've ALL been through (some much more than others, but we all spent roughly 18 years being called minors). like the family and its power isn't the primary source of child abuse.
there's some kinds of child abuse a lot of society wants to completely get rid of, and other kinds where it's a shame but the family's their master, what can you do? it's okay to make sacrifices to get rid of sexual abuse because you can blame it all on the Other, the shadowy pedophile hiding in human skin (who never seems to be a parent for some reason). it's okay to get rid of physical abuse because nobody wants to see the marks. but anything else, like what OP described? no, no, it's their religious freedom, it's their rights as parents, 18 years of sealing a child in a bubble until they suffocate on their flaws can't compare to a single flash of violence.
and even if i'm wrong and the first two really are that much worse, it's not like the current movement's doing a lot to fight it! three of my friends lost their virginities before kindergarten and one was almost murdered and those are just the ones i know about, and none of the perpetrators (all in the family) have faced any consequences for that. unless something drastic changes, they never will. but oh no some marginalized artist with 3 followers draws things that gross me out, and two high schoolers with a two year age gap are in love. that's way more important!
because it was never about helping children. it's about getting that cheap high off punishing people for breaking a social rule. it's about people protecting the image of youth and innocence and the idea of what childhood should be instead of the kids they supposedly represent. and yes, it's about trauma survivors seeing their trauma everywhere. look, i get it. i fucking get it. once something reminds us of it, we can't see clearly. and we need to hurt the people that did this to us. but you have to recognize that, and make sure you understand the real situation before you hurt someone yourself.
and of course, corpos and politicians are using it to puppet us around, and they hope by the time we realize that heat isn't our anger but them boiling the pot around us, it'll be too late. just like they always have.
fandom etiquette as a whole died when people who didn’t grow up on fandoms became stans during lockdown, yes, but why am i seeing people openly mocking fics on twitter. why am i seeing screenshots of fics with captions like “bro what is this 😭.” why am i seeing people mock fic writers for not knowing how sports or theater or college or any other organization operates in the real world.
“college is absolutely nothing like this” “why are we writing four people on the team scoring a hat trick in one game” “so tech work is nothing like this, hope that helps!”
if you don’t like a fic, and if you can’t suspend your belief enough to enjoy a fic that exaggerates or ignores real-world orgs, you don’t have to read it. you don’t have to screenshot it and put it on blast for twitter. you don’t have to post a link to it in the replies. the back button is literally there on your phone. it’s not giving baby’s first fandom anymore, it’s giving entitled asshole and it isn’t as cute as you think it is.
"college is absolutely nothing like this" and how many fictional school stories ARE anything like school
My FAVORITE post is the with mama posts. So adorable. So cute
im actually gonna lose my mind forever thinking about transfem finn the human
hey finn did even you know that humans could be women before you met susan . did that thought ever cross your mind .
i need to gush about how incredibly seamless her compositing is in these. Compositing is incredibly hard and time consuming work on a crisp clean digital image. But compositing into what seems to be a scanned photograph that was shot on film? Insane work. The film grain + photo paper texture is matched perfectly as well as the varying softness from being slightly out of focus in different amounts in each image. Each film stock has its own specific tone too some are warmer, others are more purply, or green and they all handle contrast with light and shadow completely differently. There was so much to take into account doing this and i really dont know how she did it other than maybe finding those locations again and shooting with the same film stock on a day with similar lighting. I cannot stress enough that for professional photographers doing complex compositing is mostly relegated to having a fully locked down camera set up in studio under controlled repeatable lighting. Super impressive and a really fantastic photo series truly.

dance dance revolution hot take: the current lifebar and letter grades would be fine if they were for beginner, and they scaled back with difficulty until on expert, the lifebar/letters were as hard as they were before A.
because for beginners it's good! i've hosted ddr at events. i've seen SO many people get discouraged cause they did their best and the game gave them a D or failed them out early on beginner songs. so i get why konami did it, cause by volume most people at the arcade are beginners.
but on expert it makes passing meaningless. and grades below B may as well not exist cause even a super struggle pass will at least get you that. it's insane that passing that hard boss song, which at least for me is half the reason i play rhythm games, has barely meant anything for a DECADE.
My brother randomly told me something that really made me think.
About what "Protect the youth" has become. Idk what it was like in other countries and I know that it very likely could have been stricter than it was in my country back then. But generally:
He was like "When I was 16, there were two kinds of adult content: Horror movies and explicitly depicted sexual content. The first made me have nightmares, the latter (as in what you could get in video rental stores) generally wasn't of much interest to me because it wasn't something I, as a 16 year old, could relate to. And other sexual content that was interesting (and/or helpful) WAS freely accessible. So whenever I saw an "18+" label somewhere, I just completely ignored that content because I knew it wouldn't be interesting at all to me.
But NOW, what's declared 18+ is even an excessive amount of swear words in streams! NOW, when I see an "18+" label, I don't know if it's horror movies that'll give some 16 year olds nightmares, if it's completely unrelatable porn, OR if it's educational sex ed, a 20 year old talking about their really healthy relationship with their partner (that includes intimacy), education about consent in BDSM (which affects 16 year olds as well, there's no age limit to curiosity), a live stream of wholesome musicians who happen to drink a couple of beers during kind of therapeutic talks, or simply people who aren't puritans and say "fuck" a lot! An 18+ label isn't worth anything anymore!"
And yeah... That's just it.
People who talk about body changes during their (first!) puberty are even labelled adult content. Even though puberty very much happens BEFORE adulthood. It's helpful content for minors. And it's labelled "adult" to "protect the youth".
Nothing means anything anymore.
society would be healthier if we let go of the idea that youth has to be innocent. it encourages people to control kids to make sure they have the "right" lifestyle, and make ludicrous suggestions like "12 year olds shouldn't be on the internet" when they themselves were online much younger. it makes people whose youth wasn't innocent feel like they lost their childhood, especially if they never got a choice about that. it makes it so those people can't talk about the first ~20 years of their lives without "making it weird". it makes people think your whole childhood can be ruined by clicking on the wrong links. it makes parents feel like shit if they don't have the time and money to put up that innocent bubble. it makes people think any attempt to get kids out of that lock-step must be sexual, cause if there was any other reason you'd have to question the whole thing. like, "oh, you think kids can live a variety of lives like human beings? you must wanna RAPE them!". please.
and it encourages people to imagine this magical line where a kid becomes an adult, like we're all pokemon and we turn into completely separate people and instantly gain life experience on a certain date. the way some people talk about kids like they're another species, you'd think they spawned in when they were 25 instead of living MOST OF THEIR LIFE SO FAR as a child. it stops people from empathizing with kids. it makes it acceptable to say shit like "i hate when kids eat where i eat" like that isn't an INSANE thing to say about any other group. it's the reason people ask parents what their kids want instead of talking to the kid who's right there. makes people forget that kids grow up to be adults.
it's not just a parent thing. it's not just a christian thing. it's not just an advertiser thing. it's not just a "illuminati that has a concerning amount of parallels to antisemitic stereotypes" thing. those groups have a lot of responsibility but most of us do these things too.
tl;dr: enforcing one standard for the first two decades of everyone's life is unhealthy actually
Stumbled upon this random ship (in a fandom im not active in myself) that has like 150 works on ao3 which are all from just two people gifting each other fics about this pairing back and forth and theyve been doing it for 3 years... i think thats true love probably
Very curious doggo
Reminder that puffins are extremely social and like to fit in with their friends, so they will adopt mannerisms and interests of the group. So there is a good chance this little guy is trying to be friends with the photographer by showing his interest in the camera.
TIL photographers are a lot like puffins, cuz we also make friends by showing interest in your camera XD
Reminds me of the time researchers were trying to get puffins to land in a specific area so the put decoys up to draw them in but the decoys only had 1 leg and
this is so fucking cute
it seems that a lot of times people telling someone to “get therapy” envision the ideal outcome of this to be essentially like lobotomizing the person in question
and if you say you're already in therapy and your therapist agrees with your view, 80% never respond and 20% insult your therapist because this was never about health, it was about control and they think therapists exist to control you for them
