Sina ("Zee-nuh") (she/they/it/any EXCEPT for he/him) • My name is Frisian and I am too • I was diagnosed with severe autism as a child, but I don't have ID. Yes, that's possible 😄 • I am non-verbal "from birth": I never learned to speak, but sometimes I randomly say single words. I also struggle with receptive language and don't understand complex language/walls of text. • I try to be nice to everyone, so in case I criticise you, that's not meant in a mean way! You can always tell me if I upset you, I'll take that seriously
Unless I make it clear that I don't like something and that a post is negative, you can always assume that my posts are neutral to positive. I mean what I say unless stated otherwise. I'll make it clear when I'm sarcastic or joking. Tone tags like /nf (no force), etc. confuse me because usually it wouldn't even have occurred to me that someone could have felt forced by it. I take things literally and mean things literally. If I don't, I'll make that clear ☝🏼

I use "severe" as a self-descriptor because that's what I was diagnosed with and therefore that's what people always refer to me as. I use it to indicate that my symptoms are different from most autistics on Tumblr and that I probably can't relate to most "extremely relatable autism posts" on here. I would never(!) force a label on someone, it's solely for myself.
You'll find my tag system and other things under the cut:
1. If I ever use too complex language for you, please tell me!
Writing TL;DRs and finding simpler ways to express myself is actually good for my language comprehension skills, so we’d both benefit! I think in pictures, not in words. Writing is like a jigsaw puzzle of things I once read, so if my language is complex it’s because the text jigsaw puzzle was. Reformulating things and finding new words for the pictures in my head could improve the ability to express myself :)
2. I don't expect anyone to "read between the lines" and extract "hidden meanings" here! I make it clear when I'm sarcastic or joking, and I will explicitly tell you when I want you to know that I'm angry or annoyed! ☝🏼In case I forget that, it's never your fault if you didn't get it, it's mine because I promised to make it clear but didn't.
3. I turn notifications off for bigger posts - if you want me to see a comment, tag me! (Edit: I was told that you don't see tags from muted posts either... So if you want me to see a comment, DM me!)
4. Radfems kindly don't follow - your beliefs contradict the beliefs of most of my followers in a way that I think at some point you'll simply start attacking each other and I wouldn't want that. Especially for those who are higher support needs. I think you'll understand that. I mean most of your beliefs contradict most of MY beliefs as well, but I simply don't engage in that, I have radfem content blocked.
5. Transableds, you shouldn't have the fact that you're transabled (for example transautistic) in your profile when following me, because I block people posting about that.
6. Don’t take it personally if I don’t follow back, it doesn’t mean that I don’t like you! There are so many people I’d like to follow back, but if I did my dash would be full of posts I’m not interested in...... Maybe that’s an autism thing too. Sometimes I follow “regulars” back after a while because I got used to them. And then the first thing I do is spending hours (hyperbole) blocking tags or words so that I don’t have to see 100 video game posts... 😄
7. I don’t soft block people - but sometimes I want to block a bot and mix up usernames... So if it should ever happen that you used to follow my blog, but suddenly realise you don’t anymore: That was an accident, feel free to re-follow! Kicking you off my follower list wasn’t me setting boundaries, it was me being absolutely confused! 😂
8. Tag system:
#anecdotes - positive posts about my family
#anon ask or #ask - block if you don't want to see my asks
#birdofmusic - block if you don't like random talks about bands and tastes in music
#faq - exactly what it says: frequently asked questions. Better read it before you send an ask
#me trying to be informative - more or less informative posts about autism or other disabilities
#naughty post - sometimes I'll tell dirty jokes or something. Nothing explicit of course. In case you struggle with topics like that, block this tag
#not autism - block if you're only here for the autism stuff
#rambling - whenever I just want to write down a thought or situation and it's not really important
#Sina being a hippie again - whenever I ramble about peace and love and happiness 🤷🏻
#sina's special interest - block if you don't like music theory and instruments like the piano

You can tell that someone's only native language is English when they say something like "We should call countries by the name they call themselves."
I get the sentiment, but it's normal that many people can't pronounce some sounds in a language they don't speak and then they will start butchering it. Other names are there for a reason.
It is absolutely horrible when a native English speaker asks how a name is pronounced in the native language, attempts the pronunciation multiple times, fails because they simply don't speak that language and there are sounds they never learned to make with their mouth and likely never get right (that's a normal thing btw), but then INSISTS to say the native word and now it not only sounds horrible, it even seems extremely disrespectful.
Most Americans I have heard speaking Spanish don't sound Spanish, btw, but like Americans who picked up the American accent from their teacher in school (that's ok as well) and couldn't bother to listen to a Mexican closely. So it doesn't even work here. They don't even get it right with Spanish, so WHY could someone POSSIBLY think that it's a good idea to use the country name that people who live there call themselves? It inevitably will result in butchering.
If at all, we should ask people in other countries to give us an alternative name we can say, but please LISTEN if they say "No, it's fine, just use the English name" and RESPECT that!
Sometimes I wish we could read books, papers, etc. like in The Sims. From start to finish until the progress bar is full, and then we keep that knowledge forever.
But no, that sponge of a brain leaks is what it does! 🧽
WEIRD audhd tip but holding an object or plushie, having textured sheets or pressing your hand or foot against a textured wall or object can be very helpful when you're too restless to sleep

it really irks me when people complain that so many of the autism diagnostic criteria and evaluations focus on external predictors rather than internal experiences.
so many autistic people (likely most) are diagnosed in early childhood. I was diagnosed at the age of three. I could not tell you what I struggled with and where. I was diagnosed based on external predictors rather than internal experiences (though that diagnosis did consider how those external predictors related to my internal experiences!)
the criteria should be expanded to include the experiences of older autistic people with the ability to self reflect but you can't eliminate the criteria that are externally visible.
those externally visible criteria aren't there because they want to define autism based on its impacts on others, they're there because that is frequently the only way you can tell.
hopefully not derailing (tell me if am & can delete) but!! like! autism be developmental (!!) disability that inherently affect social communication abilities as one of (if not THE) its core features!
great many cases gonna be noticed in early developmental period (childhood)!!
great many cases also going affect someone communication ability tell you what they struggle with & where & why!
n by that mean. nonverbal ppl especially those without functional communication. people w language disorders & complex communication needs in general. some people w comorbid intellectual and or cognitive disabilities. n like. in general people w inherent symptoms of autism that lead them be diagnosed w level 3 autism / equivalent.
(plus many of these autistic children also grow into autistic adults who still cannot tell u what they struggle w & where & why!)
If autistic people need to tell you exactly what they need in order to get help from your org, your org is literally inaccessible to a hugely massive portion of autistic people
This applies to a lot of disabilities and health conditions tbh but I am fucking sick of seeing nurses and doctors and caretakers and parents constantly mistake an autistic person's speech loss for anger and potential violence
Why would people reblog something from me and tag it as US politics? I very much live on another continent? Sometimes things are universal, but this doesn't make it US politics, it simply makes it universal?

HI! I have a request for disability pride month! Please be aware of the noise you make! I have sensory processing disorder and loud noises cause me physical pain!! Things are louder for me than they are for you!! Please do not say things like "it's not that loud" to someone with sensory processing disorder, it downplays what we are experiencing and pisses me off to the point where it can be considered a trigger. If you see someone covering their ears, offer them headphones if you have them (DO NOT SHARE EARPLUGS THAT IS NASTY EW but carry spares if you know someone you hang out with has sensory processing disorder they will appreciate you forever) OR ask them if they want to step out and take an ear break!! PLEASE!!! A lot of people don't take sensory processing disorder seriously, so the nicest thing you can do for someone with SPD is to be patient and offer accommodations.
A woman just asked me if "everything is alright with [me]". And I'm not sure if its because she was genuinely worried because I stared into her soul for like 30 seconds straight
Or if she meant to insult me because I look like a homosexual
Guys, if you plan to be intimate with someone else (or yourself, you do you—uh … no pun intended) later in the day, you probably shouldn’t take your ADHD meds beforehand. At least not if you happen to jump at tasks and “just do this and that too, now that I’m thinking of it”.
I just cleaned a dirty mirror and through that remembered a situation where I was in bed with someone while my ADHD meds were working really well. I was suddenly randomly thinking about a dirty mirror I still wanted to clean, and ACTIVELY had to PHYSICALLY prevent myself from simply getting up and cleaning that mirror “because I might just as well do it, now that I’m thinking of it” 😅
This … is not ideal. Getting up during sexy time, completely ignoring your partner, and starting to clean a mirror … is only recommended if you or your partner have a kink that fits in with that 💀
Really, it’s great what we can achieve when our meds work right, but learning to steer that urge to “just do this thing I’m thinking about right now” is equally important 😅
