Hey, everyone! I'm Daydream or Jackalope, whichever works. She/her but whatever. This is my attempt at a pinned post.
I'm an author of both fanfic and original work, but I've been hopelessly obsessed with stick people since 2020 and there's no sign of it stopping soon. I've been lurking for yearssss but just now decided to start interacting here.
I will probably mostly reblog and converse with people, but PLEASE feel free to come talk to me about my fics, AUs, or anything in general! I'd love to chat! :)
For other people of the fandom, my favorite characters in THSC are Charles, Ellie, and Henry (with some other fond favorites in my fics), and my favorites in AvA are Yellow and Orange (with the rest of the CG, King, Purple, Victim, Agent, and Mitsi being up there as well).

Being trapped in the Outernet after the Showdown because the Dark Lord destroyed the way back to Alan's PC, Orange and their friends create a company, ColorCorp, to rival RocketCorp and survive in this new and strange world. It's often told through the perspective of the Documentarians, OCs who are looking into ColorCorp and RocketCorp

Henry from a broken world (grimdark Valiant Hero) falls into the Toppat King timeline. After trying to kill his counterpart, the pair team up and Henry- now Val- joins the government and meets Charles yet again.

Fae's AU I've also been gnawing on since I had the misfortune of becoming its cowriter. Her summary: Henry wakes up in a new timeline where he is already the chieftain of the Toppats. Henry must hide the fact that he is not this world's Henry while searching for his missing partners.

The Champion of Autumn tries to stop the ritual she set into motion.

Scarlett is a Hunter, Champion of the god Autumn, and her purpose as leader of the Hunters is to set into motion the Ritual of Madness in Port Finchwing and finally bring Autumn back into the world. However, as the ritual draws nearer, she finds herself plagued with doubts- especially after meeting Lucian, Port Finchwing's star swordsman and the only person who can match her skill. Can Scarlett find the strength to betray the family who welcomed her and made her their leader? Or will she betray Lucien's newfound friendship and the the city she quickly grows to love?
Content warnings: For 16+ audiences. heavy blood and gore, cults, emotional abuse and manipulation, violence, unreality, body horror
This is the story I've had the longest, and Scarlett and Lucien have gone through maaaany iterations. I've written a full draft of the first novel, but it requires intense reworking, and so I'm in the planning stages for draft 2.
My beloveds. Probably the OCs I presently think the most about, since I have a good idea of their full story. A love letter to my love of body horror, blood and gore, autumn, festivals, and my lifelong obsession with Hunters and the madness of the chase.
Eventually Scarlett and Lucian do get together, and Scarlett and Thalia used to be somewhat involved, but romance is never the focus of the series.

Some time ago (I think in 2021) I had to go see a neurologist over really scary symptoms that resembled seizures. I was a nervous wreck about what I was feeling and had barely slept all week, which seemed to be apparent to the doc’s assistant when I sat down in the exam room for questioning or whatever. Dude was pretty young and soft spoken, around my age. He was laser focused doing something on one of those tablet-laptop Surface things as I spoke, presumably writing down my symptoms.
Midway through talking about my symptoms my voice audibly started shaking as I was describing them, clearly upset.
In the middle of my monologue he turns the tablet to face me, closes whatever program he has open and the wallpaper is this fucking collage of pictures of lord farquaad from shrek, lovingly decorated. Dude just sat there placidly smiling at me until I noticed and stopped dead in the middle of a sentence. We sat there in silence like this for like a solid minute before I started wheezing laughing. Before I could even say anything else or process it he picked up the tablet and wordlessly left the room, and I just sat there dumbfounded until the doctor showed up. 10/10 doctor experience tbh

I love seeing people dissecting how Eridians being ambush predators and humans being persistence hunters ends up affecting how Grace and Rocky interact and I think this goes for what they think is “cute” about the other.
Grace coos over Rocky “loafing” because to him that’s a sign of rest, trust, and vulnerability (even knowing full well that Eridians sleep on a pin cushion with everything spread out). Eridians probably take being low to the ground as a sign of aggression- like you’re trying to hide and get the better of them.
Rocky loves Grace’s bad dance moves because to Eridians, being splayed out and making yourself as big as possible is trust, rest, and vulnerability. He’s making himself well-seen. But if Rocky ever tries like- walking on two legs or shows his underside to Grace while walking Grace freaks out because on EARTH, making yourself big is the sign of aggression.

If Your Scene Feels Lifeless, Someone Is Being Too Polite
Stories stall when everyone behaves. Real tension appears when someone:
• asks the wrong question
• says something they shouldn’t
• notices something uncomfortable
• refuses to drop the topic
• misunderstands something important
• interrupts at the worst moment
They want something REALLY REALLY REALLY bad, but for some reason they can't ask for it -- or can't have it even if they did ask.
They don't notice something that the audience HAS noticed (like in a horror movie when the monster is sneaking up behind the protagonist, or if someone drinks a glass of unboiled water during a cholera outbreak because they don't know about germ theory)
Takes a risk (or otherwise does something they "shouldn't" do) which the audience has to sit through for a prolongued period of time (e.g. slips away from the party to go into the host's private office and rifle through their papers before the guards catch them)
