I ADORE THESE TAGS AND COMPLEATLY AGREE!!!!! and gonna "yes and" on that last one bc the angst potential is soooo juicy Rocky on one hand genuinely thinks Grace deserves the best and will do almost everything to achieve that. and like yeah, it is ostensibly all FOR Grace, but on the other hand, this is as much for Rocky himself, even if he dosnt acknowledge it. He's the guy who fixes things! and yet he couldn't stop his crew from dying. He couldn't save Erid on his own after 46 years alone (FOURTY SIX YEARS!!!!) He couldn't stop the Taumeba from eating all of his fuel. If it wasnt for his friendship with Grace, he likely would of failed to save Erid's star. He's the guy that fixes, and after ALL OF THAT he has to watch for 4 and a half years as his best friend slowly dies of starvation (while Rocky still have so much to eat), with next to nothing he can do to stop it. honestly, that last year must of been so hard on Rocky, unsure if he would return to Erid as the only survivor. unsure if he could return, if that was the case. But it isnt only that. Erid has changed since he left. He dosnt want to face a world he has been isolated from for so long (he cant fix how he feels like an Other in a room of Eridians). He cant handle the distance between himself and the friend/family he left behind (he cant fix their grief over how he returned home changed). He dosn't want to face the collective grief of a world that spent years dying (he cant fix the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Eridians that died as he floated in space alone, surrounded by the dead). The single constant in his new life is how he only feels at peace pressed next to an alien that he cant even touch without a barrier. so he NEEDS Grace to be ok (he cant be unable to fix this too, not again, not again-) he will do anything to make sure Grace is happy and thriving on Erid. Because then at least 1 out of the 26 beings sent to space to save their dying stars can live a long and happy life.

Anyways after a cultural and theological rabbit hole that was less informative then he would like, Rocky finally asks Grace about it and Grace is like “well, Rock, I don’t think they exsist, it’s just a way for anxious humans to cope with the unknowns of life.” To which Rocky internally is like, Alright to I gotta figure out how to TWO people who don’t have souls can be soul mates. Got it

Some time later when Grace is more recovered he’s talking to some of his health team like “:) it’s nice you guys let me spend all this time with Rocky in my biodome despite all of the various things you likely need him for” the whole team is like”??? Uh yeah. Of course, We don’t want you to die???” and Grace is like haha what :) -> *medteam relays what Rocky said* -> “HE SAID WHAT.”

and id also like to think that there are some Eridian materials scientists + new age art/fashion enthusiasts who have learned about the loud earth fabrics and are desperate to recreate them STAT. They are about to make some advances in Eridian formal wear the likes no one has ever heard
