The fastest way to accomplish The Project is to cease being afraid of The Project. The Project cannot maim you. The Project cannot kill you. The Project is more afraid of you than you are of it. It is okay if The Project turns out differently from how it was in your head, and it is okay if it has flaws. You are capable of engaging with The Project.
do other countries do the whole “leaving furniture you want gone on the curb for other people to just grab” or is that an american thing
The Dutch do it and it's called The King's Gift, but when Brits do it, taking the stuff is actually a crime called, wait for it, Theft By Finding.
we need a ritual where you can climb into a hole in the ground for roughly 24 hours and just close your eyes and not do anything, and nobody is allowed to look for you or speak your name, and whenever you want to reemerge then you can climb back out and people are forbidden from commenting on your absence. can someone get on this.
there are many different tv shows, movies, etc that set me on a trajectory to becoming an artist and finding love in illustrating and animating but the one thing that really sealed my fate was the video of James Baxter drawing Spirit from the Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron dvd bonus features.
I never once gave a shit about celebrity meet-and-greets but if James Baxter was doing autographs I STILL wouldn't go because I know I'd act like an absolute dolt all because this single drawing from the bonus features of a horse movie set off the domino effect towards my future career as an artist:

okay already i desperately need u.s. americans to practice the phrase, "not where i'm from, but maybe in other parts of the u.s."
because it's genuinely insane the things i've heard americans say 'america doesn't have' when it's just factually incorrect.
for some perspective: during my longest move i did by-car in the u.s., i drove ~3,000 miles. That's ~4,800 km. It took nearly 50 hours drive-times alone. Meaning, if I could have driven without stopping once, it would have taken nearly 50 hours. Of course I split that up over several days.
Driving that same distance here, If there's a ferry+road from Rabat (in Morocco) to Kyiv (Ukraine), I could take it and keep on going another several hours.
So you can understand how silly it is for someone from the u.s. to be asked to answer a question on behalf of the entirety of the u.s.—geographically, culturally, etc.
So now that we've said all that, I need you to know that I listened to a guy from Idaho tell an Irish person today, "yeah, we just don't really get snails much in America."
Snails.
Next. Even if someone does say, 'not where I'm from,' you might still want to check that out for yourself:
No, actually, i want cables and not bluetooth, i don't want touchscreens, i want buttons and knobs, i want to be able to take the battery out of my phone, i want to charge my phone and plug in head phones at the same time, i want a cd drive in my laptop and not have to buy an external drive, i want a car without a display, i want to turn on the lights with a switch not with my voice, i want to have a paper cinema ticket not a QR code, i want to listen to illegally burned music on a 00s cd player, i want to watch movies that i actually own, i want to read news once a day on paper, i want to aimlessly flick through magazines and not doomscroll on social media, i want to write emails and not talk to chatbots, i want to own stuff without hundreds of digital subscriptions, i want
Pretend, for example, that you were born in Chicago and have never had the remotest desire to visit Hong Kong, which is only a name on a map for you; pretend that some convulsion, sometimes called accident, throws you into connection with a man or a woman who lives in Hong Kong; and that you fall in love. Hong Kong will immediately cease to be a name and become the center of your life. And you may never know how many people live in Hong Kong. But you will know that one man or one woman lives there without whom you cannot live. And this is how our lives are changed, and this is how we are redeemed.
What a journey this life is! Dependent, entirely, on things unseen. If your lover lives in Hong Kong and cannot get to Chicago, it will be necessary for you to go to Hong Kong. Perhaps you will spend your life there, and never see Chicago again. And you will, I assure you, as long as space and time divide you from anyone you love, discover a great deal about shipping routes, airlines, earth quake, famine, disease, and war. And you will always know what time it is in Hong Kong, for you love someone who lives there. And love will simply have no choice but to go into battle with space and time and, furthermore, to win.
Nothing Personal by James Baldwin

Having a job is an awesome way to stay hydrated because you get so bored you start drinking water just for a little excitement
they're trying to get me to do something called ""my job"" instead of reading about medieval english poaching laws
The older i get the more i understand why some people become obsessed with privacy, not because they’re hiding something, but because being constantly perceived starts to feel spiritually exhausting.
i got so used to things being mislabelled as mature content that I got jump scared by pixel art anime tits this morning…
hated when ppl said "wow i can't even draw a stick figure" when they learn i draw but then i realized i do the same thing at ppl who are good at math so i'm really no better than them. this realization has stopped this knee-jerk reaction of disdain when it happens at me, and has basically completely stopped me from doing it in turn at others. the grace feels a lot better than the rage or the shame. fwiw
yesterday a man watched me drawing, and a few minutes later he asked about it and whether I’d been doing it for long. i usually get the stick figure reaction, but he shared that he really liked drawing when he was younger and had always wanted to draw comics, but ended up leaning into sports. as an adult he said he still doodles in margins and planned to start drawing again in earnest when he retired. 🥹

The first rule of fandom is have fun. The second rule of fandom is find an enabler and become an enabler. Yes you should write that fic. What if it was even hornier? What if it was angstier? What if you wrote it just for me?
