alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?
under 18, AI is a net positive
under 18, AI is a net negative
18-29, AI is a net positive
18-29, AI is a net negative
30-45, AI is a net positive
30-45, AI is a net negative
46-60, AI is a net positive
46-60, AI is a net negative
over 60, AI is a net postive
over 60, AI is a net negative
Question 2/3
How often do you visit or interact with museums/archives (whether in person or online)?
Frequently (multiple times per month)
Often (multiple times per year)
Occasionally (a couple times per year)
Rarely (once every couple of years)
Never :(
Question 3/3
If you saw a museum was using AI in exhibits, marketing, research, etc., would you be more or less inclined to visit that museum?
under 18, more inclined
under 18, less inclined
18-29, more inclined
18-29, less inclined
30-45, more inclined
30-45, less inclined
46-60, more inclined
46-60, less inclined
over 60, more inclined
over 60, less inclined
Thank you for helping with this data collection. Please rb for as big a sample as possible!

I would never want to be a child again, but adulthood really is “wow! I finally have a few hundred dollars after all my expenses are paid!! I can put it in savings finally!”
Fridge breaks
Ugh, not to keep talking about my fridge, but I’m so sad I’m gonna have to buy a new one 🥲 my current one is like 17 yrs old. That fucker fulfilled his entire life expectancy. But now I gotta go get a shitty new one that’ll break in 5 years cause everything is built to become obsolete
Do you know what's wrong with it? My old fridge broke not too long ago, but it turned out that I could just purchase the part online and I fixed it for about 50 bucks.
One of the coils busted. It was gonna be like a $800 fix
Oof, yeah, that's rough. Technically possible to do yourself if your able to rent tools near you, but it would be very technically difficult. In that case, my best advice is to just check out if there are any used appliance stores then. You may be able to get one for only a couple hundred bucks.

(Irl Au version for funsies)
Yeah, you get it
It'd actually be the same size book, but most of the book would just be trying to get the gun away from Nanna

basketball dracula isn't real dude he can't-- *sudden squeaking noises from the shadows*
*two pool toys having sex tumble by in the wind* oh thank god
*thunderous slam dunk noise*
Excellent
the organisers of dashcon 2 asked me to give a talk there what the hell do i talk about i use this webbe site every day and have no clue what i'd say about it other than "yeah it's good it's the one that doesn't suck"
if i did a presentation about why SCUBA diving is fun and why I like it would people be interested in that???? it's not relevant to anything I just think it's neat
I for one would love that kind of presentation
This is the best one
(in case anyone needs context, since i know there's a bunch of younguns who didn't even know the "It's gonna be May" meme... The song playing is NSync's song "It's Gonna Be Me", the guy in the mint green t-shirt is NSync member Lance Bass, and the guy in the pink hoodie is his husband Michael.)
I need to you all to know that the original caption for this is : “POV your friend mispronounces a word once and now it’s a national holiday.”
Did y’all know I fucking love this game?

Faith is an excellent game, 10/10
Having a "stupider people have done this" attitude about the things you want to do can open so many doors
I've rebuilt a house on this principle.

Average leg day for me and my wife
the Murderbot Diaries opens from the point-of-view of a character who, from essentially the moment it gained (clawed its way to) free will, has made decisions based purely on two very specific motives:
to self-soothe and self-educate (through media consumption)
to protect the people around it
and this protagonist, who deescalates violence at every opportunity, who takes a thousand personal injustices in stride and only strives to do better, whose first-and-worst-and-most-brilliant act of self-reclamation—literally reclaiming its mind—was fuelled not by its need for freedom but by a desperation to never be forced to hurt anyone against its will ever again.
this person, when choosing a name for itself, a name it has full reason to believe no-one else will ever learn, a name it uses only in its thoughts, a name that serves solely as a personal reminder that it is a person—chooses MURDERBOT? i am thrashing writhing screaming into the palms of my bloodstained hands BABE
It loves it's humans and just wants to keep them safe but it believes at this point in the story that it may just snap at any moment, that it may come to the conclusion that it DOES need to kill all humans, and it is terrified of that idea
