ok so, I've got this "half-bleached" top in the plastic bag. I grab about a yard from that, loosen it up and draw it over one card by hand (held around the middle, turned after 3-4 strokes). that gives the longest fiber (bottom right, maybe 20 cm?). i repeat this twice for the bottom left fiber (10-15 cm) and then make rolags out of the leftover flax tow, which is very fluffy and soft (top right photo), with the tow from two yards. everything looks really nice and shiny!

is this sensible? honestly, probably not, but I've seen one other person prepping tow like this sooooo.

i want to spin the longest fiber on it's own. I'll probably mix the middle length with something else (don't ask me what, maybe some tencel?) and I've already started spinning the rolags. the rolag single is fluffy (ig rolags are woolen prep...) but it's relatively easy to draft thinly and smoothes down with water. i think I'll switch to the towel method since the shortest and fluffiest fibers love to stick to my damp hands.
