Din Djarin really went through an arc in the first 2 seasons of the Mandolorian. He had his helmet taken off and someone saw his face. He had to deal with the ramifications of that and what it meant to him as a person and to him as a mandolorian. I thought that when Din met Bo-Katan he would realise that there are more than 1 way to live according to the creed. I thought he would set himself free of the guilt (and tbh Im a "din should've been the next leader of mandalore" truther. It makes the most sense to me. I really think the creed could've united under him with possibly Bo-Katan as a co-leader or something). But that was reversed in S3. Now I feel like that every time we see him we keep running into the same issues. He is being repressed by the creed, someone takes his helmet off cause we still need to prove Pedro Pascal is still under there and we go on with no real progress.

Grogu should've stayed with Luke in my opinion. I don't mind him as a mandolorian but i feel like he's stuck as a helpless baby with not much beyond that. I think the new movie definitely expanded on his growth but he seems stuck. I think that the show was correct to split them up, apart from each other they could grow more.

I will say that I think that Mando Luke was very strange. He saw first hand that love and attachments don't necessarily lead to the dark side. He broke off his training with Yoda to save his friends even though Yoda warned him. Luke is supposed to represent a new age of the order with less stagnant and extreme beliefs. But that's not who Mando Luke is. He forces Grogu to choose. And the choosing isn't what bothers me but the way it happens. I wish we could've seen a more nuanced version of it because this reminded me a lot of Anakin being forced to choose between his mother and the order.

Searching for it online brought up "It's better to light a candle than curse the darkness," from Men at Arms. Yeah, I thought. That must have been it. But why do I remember something about a flamethrower? And why does that quote sound so... Tidy? Sweet? Too nice for a Pratchett novel?

It took me a while to find the time to dig through my copy of the book. But here you are:

'Might as well have a bloody king and have done with it!'

The rest of the Night Watch stood looking at their feet in mute embarrassment. Then Carrot said, 'It's better to light a candle than curse the darkness, Captain. That's what they say.'

Okay. That's it all right. But then it continues, on the top of the next page:

'What?' Vimes's sudden rage was like a thunderclap. 'Who says that? When has that ever been true? It's never been true! It's the kind of thing people without power say to make it all seem less bloody awful, but it's just words, it never makes any difference–'

Well. That's Pratchett, all right.

And because it's all about timing, the actual punchline, as it were, only comes thirty or so pages later:

The third time, she says "To the Royal Advisor," and is once more satisfied to see herself.

The fourth time, she says "To the scribe who takes the King's letters." She is shown the man's wife. And she seethes, but quiets herself, for it is only right that a man loves his wife.

The fifth time, she says "To the Court Wizard," and is shown the man's departed mother as he remembers her from his youth, radiant and smiling and warm and larger than life.

The tenth time, she says "To the Stable Master," and is shown the fastest horse in the stable, majestic and free as the wind even in captivity

"To the baker," she is shown the man's daughter, young and adorable and full of joy and laughter.

"To the artist who did my portrait," she is shown a painting of a woman done by the man's teacher, who he still looks up to now that he is well established himself.

"To the Royal Knight," she is surprised but not displeased to see the castle's entire guard force in the middle of doing drills.

The one hundredth time she asks the mirror, and it asks her "to whom?" she once again says, "To me." And she does the same the one hundred and second, and again and again and again.
