I saw a video today from a chronically ill woman about the fact you can feel so guilty when doing fun things.
She talks about how, as a kid, you learn to finish work before you can play and that you take this with you into adulthood. So you keep the mindset of having to finish 'have to' tasks/chores before being allowed to 'play'.
But when you're chronically ill, this is literally impossible! If you'd do that it would be all work and never play. That wouldn't be healthy at all. We need to remind ourselves of this. We don't need to feel guilty for doing something fun!
"get a job" "unemployed behaviour" okay but like. girl your ableism
girl your abelism. girl your inexplicable capitalistic worldview. girl your view of labour productive for capital being directly tied to your worth as a person. but also really holy shit girl your abelism!

I’m lying face down on the floor. Reblog to join.
Ariel Day, from a poem titled "Games," featured in Black Roses: Poems about Love, Heartbreak, Mental Health, Self Love
Image description: A poem titled “Games”, by Ariel Day. The poem is in black text on a white background:
“i love people
who bring out the parts of me i keep hidden
i hide myself like a child playing hide and seek
i don't know what i want more— to hide or for someone to find me
- i want both”
End of image description.
Alone, bundled against the frigid air, under a dazzling sky, the journey continues on.

was about to fall asleep and then hit me that when ilya first meets shane his mother's death was only FIVE years earlier which is. basically nothing but also SO much time to be fending for yourself and growing up too fast and everyone expecting too much of you and you're only 17 but. then there's this canadian boy with freckles who tells you not to smoke and shakes your hand twice and looks at you like you're more than a hockey player and for the first time in five years you think maybe that's true. i'm gonna be sick.
My joyous and ever reaching heart only wants to be outside and do outside work. My painful body is languishing and chaining itself to the concrete slab of indoor comforts

the power of a bowl of rice mixed with some fucking bullshit cannot be overstated
how come if you say "i get sick every time i eat gluten" its "you should stop eating gluten then" and if you say "i get sick every time i go swimming" its "you maybe shouldnt go swimming anymore then" but if you say "i get sick every time i push my body to be 'on' for long enough to work a job" its "well i dont believe you thats stupid that shouldnt happen to people. and even if youre not lying and that does happen to you i think you should just keep working because otherwise youre useless and im sure its not that bad" ??
(this post is about me/cfs)
The chronic illness experience is doing one thing for like a couple of hours and being so exhausted for the next like two days that you can’t think straight enough to form coherent sentences
Happy Halloween! This is what I look like btw

“There’s a legend about a Chinese painter who was asked by the emperor to paint a landscape so pristine that the emperor can enter it. He didn’t do a good job, so the emperor was preparing to assassinate him. But because it was his painting, legend goes, he stepped inside and vanished, saving himself. I always loved that little allegory as an artist. Even when it is not enough for others, if it is enough for you, you can live inside it.”
