Grace trying to play peekaboo with Rocky and Adrian and like, those two love their baby but theyβre so confused π
Theyβre going to fetch Grace and the lil guy is under the covers giggling. When they lift it up Grace is so happy to see them and Rocky and Adrian are ready to take care of their pebble when Grace justβ¦ pulls the blanket back over himself. Rockyβs so worried because heβs gathered that humanβs will sometimes hide themselves when upset, but heβs also clearly laughing so heβsβ¦ not upset?? Adrian knows even less about human behavior so they canβt help, meanwhile Grace is getting tired of his caregivers taking forrrreveeerrrr to keep playing. And itβs just a cycle of βis our baby okay? Is he happy, or is this bad for humans?β Idk itβs just, the fact that eridians donβt have a sense of sight means they likely donβt play that sort of game(and I canβt think of what would be an Eridian equivalent) Just a harmless misunderstanding that Grace clears up when big, with many a google searches
This is so cuteeee, I love this idea so much, I wracked my brain and the Eridian equivalent is probably when tiny pebbles are still getting used to their vision, parents have like a constant stream of melodies playing so the pebble knows they're there so their version of the game would be switching off the song for a couple of second before starting up again. I'm thinking this also helps pebbles hone in their vision properly. But back on track I think once Grace explains it to Rocky and Adrian they're more than happy to indulge their pebble β‘
grace KICK rocky???
In the movie, Driver references The Scorpion and the Frog from Aesopβs Fables, a classic collection of childrenβs stories.
Imagining that Shannon used to read them to him before bed when Driver was regressed.
In addition, the scorpion and the frog story represents the two sides of the internal human psyche. He wears a scorpion jacket when he is big. So, Iβm deciding to headcanon him as having a plush frog for when heβs little.
!!!! It being one of tiny Driver's favourite stories Shannon tells him (of course Shannon offers to read Driver any story but, Driver will always look to Shannon once the story was done and does a lil sign that say "again?" And well, how could Shannon say no to him?)
And oh my goodness, a scorpion when big and a little tadpole when regressedπ₯Ίπ his frog plush is probably one like this:
Something softer, jovial and safe feeling for Driver (also...tiny Driver being a big fan of Frog and Toadπ₯Ί)
For the regressor Driver has a plush frog headcanon:
One day, when Driver was at home, Irene shows up to ask for some kind of favour (neighbour asks to borrow a cup of sugar type deal).
He invites her in and goes to get what she needs. While he is busy she is absentmindedly looking around his apartment when she spots the plush frog on his bed.
Driver sees her pick it up and internally panics. He makes an excuse about it being a relic from his childhood that he just canβt throw away, though his face is burning. He wants to seem big and strong for her, heβs afraid of what she will think.
Irene accepts his explanation, though she canβt help but notice the way it was sitting on the bed like a daily fixture. Nor the grease marks that stained it, likely from holding it after coming home from the garage.
She doesnβt connect it to regression, she probably doesnβt even know what that is. It does, however, give her a softer view of the man. Knowing that beyond his tough exterior, Driver still sleeps with a stuffed animal at night.
Driver is just thanking the heavens that his pacifier and any other gear was safely hidden out of sight . Heβs not used to having company, okay.
(The next time Irene comes over Driver does a double check that none of his regression items are visible.)
Waaa oh my goodness π₯Ίπ
Irene knows Driver is likely to have duct tape or super glue (she needs to fix one of Benicio's toys) and of course, these apartments aren't exactly huge so, she has prime view of Driver's bed as she's idly waiting for Driver to grab the items from his nightstand (because of course he has that stuff in his nightstand xD) and she spots the froggy plush.
Of course she picks it up! It stands out in Driver's minimalism and you know, mom brain on wanting to make sure the plush toy is "safe" (aka: Irene totally tucks Benicio's toys in his bed every morning after he goes to school)
Poor Driver's grip tightens on the items when he sees Irene with his froggy! He totally makes up some lie about it being a childhood toy (and totalllllly not bought by Shannon xD) and is soooo grateful Irene takes his word! (He doesn't even notice until she's gone but, Driver sees that Irene tucked the plush into his bedding π₯Ί)
Ooh he totally from then on double and triple checks to make sure none of his tiny stuff is visible in case Irene pops in for something again xD
Baby Driver is always super silent, but I think it would be adorable if his first word was βshaβonβ or βpapaβ for Shannon π₯Ή
On a more tragic note, him crying out βpapa!β βpapa!β over and over again post-canon but his carer doesnβt know who heβs crying for :(
Waaa!! Shannon has basically made himself know that tiny Driver probably won't ever speak and that's okay, Shannon doesn't mind, the lil guy just toddles around and they've got their own communication now so, it's all goodβ
Buuut then, one day, maybe after a pretty rough stunt day (the director was rude and kept making Driver do the stunt over because they "couldn't get the right lighting" or other dumb stuff!!) Driver is v tiny, resting his chin in Shannon's knee as he sits there, just listening to Shannon go on about some story or about something silly that happened on set.
Then Shannon gets up, probably just to go grab the remote or something from the kitchen. He's barley 5 feet away before he hears something, something soft, barley audible.
"Papa?"
Shannon freezes, finger that had been going for now found themselves touching his own chest as his heart swelled. He immediately walked back to Driver, those eyes that looked so concerned instantly melted back into the soft calmness when Shannon ruffled his blond locks.
"Papa huh, kid?" Shannon said, voice full of emotion, "yeah, yeah we can work with that."
Driver just smiles, a content noise when Shannon sat back down, letting Driver rest his head once more.
--
WAAA OH GOSHπ₯Ίππ Driver just all tears and hiccuping sobs as he's sadly saying "papa" despite that not being the term he's ever used with his carer so his poor carer is confused and trying so hard to soothe Driver but, Driver just keeps crying and calling out for Papa...a Papa who isn't coming back πππ

Driver with his toothpick all the time, heβs probably such a pacifier addict when regressed.
I feel like he would need it to sleep no matter his headspace since he canβt have a toothpick in while sleeping.
Yes!! Poor lil guy, when he's big he's already got one heck of an oral fixation so when he's tiny?? Oooh he NEEDS a soother or else everything else will be going in his mouth!! It's soothing for him, but also keeps his fingers and shirts safe from getting all drooly/chewed xD
Oh my goodness, big or small, Driver has a soother for sleep because let's be real, he probably tried to just keep a toothpick in but that just ended on him almost swallowing it or it poking his mouth π so, nighttime soother for him no matter what and it definitely helps him sleep better (even if he pretends it doesn't) ;u;
Caregiver! Eva Stratt
A/N: Say hello to my newest hyperfixation!!! Project Hail Mary should be getting added to the masterlist if this is in demand.
- Stratt does not become a caregiver so much as she decides to become one. She assessed the situation, determined it was necessary, and committed completely. That's just how she operates. - Stratt does not ease into caregiving. She approaches it the same way she approaches everything - she identifies what needs to be done and she does it. The softness comes later. It surprises her more than anyone. - She is not naturally gentle but she is naturally precise, and it turns out that precision looks a lot like gentleness when it's applied to someone small and tired. She always knows exactly what you need. She just doesn't always know what to call it.
- For all of the coldness she likes to project, she is soft at her core. - Stratt does not do empty comfort. She won't tell you everything is fine if it isn't. What she will do is sit with you in the middle of the hard thing and stay there until it passes.
"Is it going to be okay?" She pauses, honest. "I don't know. But we'll handle it." Somehow that's better.
- Stratt spends an ungodly amount of money and resources to give you the best life possible. Whatever you might want, you get.
- She's very efficient in how she cares for you - if there's a problem, it's immediately addressed.
- She is not soft in the way other caregivers are soft. She is steady. There is a difference and her little learns it quickly. Soft bends. Stratt holds. - Stratt learns your routines the way she learned logistics - methodically, thoroughly, without making a fuss about it. Within two weeks she knows your preferred snack, your tells for overwhelm, and exactly how long you need before you're ready to talk after a hard day. - Stratt learns your preferences with the same focused attention she would apply to any mission-critical variable. Your preferred snack. The blanket weight that helps. Whether you need noise or quiet. She catalogs it without making it feel clinical.
- Rules in Stratt's house are explained, not handed down. Every single one. She will tell you exactly why and exactly what the thinking was. She considers this basic respect.
"But why?" "Because if you skip lunch your blood sugar drops and then everything feels worse than it is. Eat." A pause. "...Okay."
- Stratt always has a plan. Including, apparently, a regression kit. Organized. Labeled. Restocked automatically. Her little found it once and didn't say anything for a week because they were so moved by the specificity of it.
- She keeps things running so smoothly that you don't notice until much later how much she was quietly managing. The snacks that were always stocked. The noise that always got turned down before it bothered you. The plans that always accounted for exactly how long you actually needed.
"How did you know?" "I paid attention."
- Stratt has absolute authority over every nation on earth. She now uses that same decisive energy to win arguments about whether it's too cold for a jacket. Her little never wins. The jacket always comes. - Her little falls asleep sometimes in the middle of her explaining something. She doesn't stop immediately. She finishes her point, tucks them in, and then sits there a moment longer than necessary before she gets up.
- She doesn't say "I love you" easily or often. But she says "you did well today" with such precise, unvarnished honesty that it means more.
- Physical affection does not come naturally to her and she knows it. She tries anyway. A hand on your shoulder. Sitting close enough that your arms touch. It gets easier. She notices when it gets easier. - She reads to you in Dutch sometimes, not as a lesson, just because some things sound right in her first language and she has stopped apologizing for that. - When you're little and scared, Stratt doesn't immediately try to fix it. She assesses first - what kind of scared, how bad, what's needed. Then she acts. It is surprisingly comforting to be that carefully looked at.
- Stratt does not lie to her littles. She will simplify, she will soften the edges, but she will not invent a comfortable untruth. You learn to trust everything she tells you because of this.
- If you do something brave, Stratt tells you once, specifically, and then never mentions it again. Somehow, that makes it mean more than if she'd said it a hundred times.
- Stratt does not baby-talk. Not once, not ever. She speaks to her little the same way she speaks to heads of state - directly and with full expectation that they will understand her. They always do. She is never surprised by this.
- Stratt remembers everything her little has ever told her. Offhand preferences or things mentioned once in passing. She never makes a show of it. Stratt just does it. It shows up as the right snack appearing or a small thing handled before it became a problem. Her little eventually realizes she has been paying attention to every single word from the very beginning.
- Stratt is extraordinarily difficult to rattle. Her little figures this out and finds it deeply comforting. There is no version of events that makes Stratt lose her footing. Whatever happens, she will already be thinking three steps ahead.
- She is not interested in being liked. She is interested in being trusted. With her little, somehow, she ended up with both, and she is undone by it in a way she will never say out loud.
Having driver engage in traumatic play is SICK!!! π
Do you think maybe one of his carers sees him getting riled up and like helps him to maybe redirect the story into a positive one, I think thatβd be super helpful for him considering his trauma. :)
When he's tiny, Driver finds those memories more easily surfaced and seeping out in his play! It's a way his mind tries to rationalize his trauma since when he's big he just pushes it down!
His carer 1000% likes to try and redirect, not completely stopping him from his playing (because that would honestly make things worst because those memories would be plaguing him the rest of the dayπ) but just, helping him out to find a more positive light to the story!
Maybe they'd grab another car and drive it up to Driver's, having another figure come out of the car that starts talking to Driver's "character" about "how pretty the sky is tonight" and asking him questions and redirecting Driver from the "bodies/getaway" and instead, having his figure and their's go to a local diner to have some yummy pieβ‘
(Maybe they even really go to the diner for pie just to help Driver understand how loved he is and how not every drive ends in scary stuff!)
Diver and Grace being little together? Maybe? Idk
Something something, Driver was helping at the middle school for some M.A.D program where they have Driver stunt drive as a "drunk driver" to show the kids the dangers of drunk driving and Grace and Driver sorta just hit it off from there!
β’ Tiny Grace is 10000% talking for both of them! Driver is very silent so Grace has no problem going up to their carer like "Casey wants apple juice!" (While Driver is sorta hiding behind Grace, nodding in confirmation) or being the one to babble while they play β‘
β’ Driver is surprisingly really good at sharing his toys, just an utter sweetheart of a tot who likes to put his toy cars in Grace's hand and just sorta stare at Grace until Grace plays with it (Grace isn't as good with sharing BUT he's learning!!β‘)
β’ Grace regresses just a biiiit older than Drive, not by much but, that still has Grace puff his chest out and boast about being the "big brother" xD
β’ You GOTTA keep an eye on them! You got a toddler scientist and baby mechanic, they will take things apart and play with the guts of things ("for science" Grace whines and "to make it feel better" Driver says)
Protective big brother Gracey to Driver πππ
A carer would gently encourage driver to use his words and Grace is like "no he's only small!"
"C'mon buddy, can you use your big boy words? Can you say 'juice, please'?" The carer says, gently shaking the bottle to jostle the juice inside.
Driver slowly blinks, his little hand reaching out, "mmh!"
"That's so close buddy! See how my lips move when I say 'juuuuice'? Can you try?"
Grace then toddles over, nudging himself between the carer and Driver, a small pout over his lips as he crosses his arms.
"(Carer nickname) he justa baby! He doesn' gotta use big boy words 'cause he isn' a big boy!"
The carer pireces their lips together to hold back a smile/chuckle.
"I suppose you're right huh Gracey?" they say, tosling Grace's hair as they kneel down to where Driver was still seated, "you tell us what you want by your own means yeah?" they coo as they hand the bottle to Driver.β‘
(Something something Driver's "first word" being "Grace"π₯Ί)

Sorry, thinking about Driver accidentally regressing at the shop and Shannon being like "oh, kid *is* a kid right now. Can't really have him handling transmissions."
So Shannon just plops Driver beside him as he works, explaining the whole process and letting Driver "help" by holding tools for Shannon β‘
And Driver is the happiest camper, slightly kickin' his legs, incredibly engaged and listening very intently to everything Shannon says! (Shannon only occasionally having to direct Driver to not put his fingers in his mouth and look for Driver's toothpicks, or invest in something a bit more baby Driver safeβ‘)
i think rocky, grace, and armando (with help from the human thinking machine, of course) come up with a plan to help grace manage PTSD while he's still big. the soother is definitely a little grace thing, but the blanket and lovey help all the time.
thanks for the ask, lovely!
