When I was jumping I used to train with this lesson horse named Feather. She was a snowflake Appaloosa like this one, beautiful and lithe and a humongous bitch; appy mares are truly the tortoiseshell cats of the horse world. Feather was a dressage horse by training, and she was a nice little jumper, but would not tolerate misuse. One week we were taking a two foot cross fence and I kept hitting her in the mouth with the bit. I did it once, twice and she kicked and bridled afterwards to let me know that I was pissing her off, and the third time I did it she threw me. Boundaries queen. She scared the daylights out of me. Love her.
