princess koriand'r of tamaran really one of the characters of all time. reinvented cognitive behavioral therapy from first principles simply through the act of being one of the only emotionally regulated characters in dc comics. like she's been sold as a political prisoner twice. married for political reasons twice, both which ended in tragedy. komand'r. her parents are dead. the population of her planet is always in fucking peril. she is absolutely motivated by what's happened to her, but she is also very much like, the things that happened to me cannot be changed, and dwelling on them for the sake of it is an act of futility and does me no good in the long run. every day is a chance for me to do good, and that means that tomorrow i can do good, too :)
and everyone around her is like kory you are out of your fucking mind. that's not how we DO things on EARTH. on EARTH, we are ALWAYS traumatized and we NEVER heal. and she's like hey, have you considered that's not a good thing? and nobody ever listens. she's literally keeping the prince of dwelling on it in her purse because she is so fucking kind
Mothers' Day is a good day to post about how I didn't pay it much mind when Meloni called Bart "Sunshine" at first because my brain just registered it as a common nickname for a parent to call their child.
But in the end, after just losing the chance of finally staying with his mom, of being raised and loved by her, Bart is back in the 20th century and then he looks up...
The realization of how important this nickname is for Bart hit me like a truck. Sunshine is something beautiful, that brings happiness and life.
For Meloni, Bart is her sunshine, because even if they can't be together, knowing he's alive and well still makes her happy; she loves him that much. And for Bart, to know his mom loves him to the point of comparing him to it, to know she chose it as a term of endearment for him, means the world.
This post isn't as articulated as it could be, I'm tired and on my feels, but I hope people get what I mean.
Bart Allen, you're a ray of sunshine and your Mama loves you very much ;-;

The comic I did for the @gothamhorrorzine
"Bruce doesn't want Damian to be his Robin and prefers [insert another batfam member]"
Meanwhile, this is Bruce having the worst time of his life after Damian asks him if he could skip just one patrol so that he could go volunteer at a hospital:
This man started a whole ass investigation on a Nobel Peace Prize candidate doctor who took Damian under his wing when BRUCE WAS THE ONE TO INTRODUCE HIM TO DAMIAN IN THE FIRST PLACE!
He looked fucking traumatized when Damian told him he'd quit being Robin after they caught the villain they were looking for AND not to mention, Bruce hid a bug in Damian's shoe because he was SO convinced that this doctor was somehow manipulating his son and trying to get in between him and Bruce.
"Bruce doesn't want Damian to be a vigilante because he thinks Damian is annoying and disobedient."
WRONG! Bruce will go on a psychotic break if Damian tries to quit because Bruce thinks Damian is only here for Batman and not Bruce Wayne. And if he's no longer Robin, then Damian won't stay with him and will instead go with his new doctor mentor.
Father and son both have abandonment issues about each other and nothing you'll ever say will change that fact!
They love each other. Bye!
I think one major thing that makes whatever Fraction is attempting to do fall flat with Bruce and Damian for me is that at no point I felt like Bruce even really cares about Damian and his relationship with him.
I've seen people defend Fraction's run by accusing people who criticized how he writes Damian as simply hating conflict, which is pretty stupid considering that I don't know how one can be fan of canon Damian while disliking conflict?
Them being in conflict is not the issue (even though what Fraction wrote is stupid and forced), the real problem is that his Bruce does not seem to care. Like god, Bruce has to hallucinate a whole other person to convince him that he should probably slightly cheer up his son who is clearly sad because of Bruce's actions. The bar for being a good father really is in hell.
PKJ also recycled elements of previous arcs, but the entire time it was clear that his Bruce saw his relationship with his youngest son as something very important he worried about which explained his at points unhinged behaviour.
And that is important because if the main character doesn't seem to care...then why should I? These are fictional characters, you need to show or tell me what they care about and in Bruce's case that includes Damian because there have been too many writers who had Bruce not care. I am not automatically going to assume that Bruce cares about Damian's feelings or his relationship with him because I know that Bruce is often written to be a pretty bad and cold father.
