oh artisanal. Wow that is bad kerning.
It's one of many reasons that workers tell Polygon they are eager to unionize.
Employees and developers working on Magic: The Gathering Arena say they were hired with promises of remote flexibility, so they bought homes and built lives around those assurances. But they say they are now being told they may need to relocate to Washington state — or effectively lose their jobs.
Those concerns are a major reason why a supermajority of workers on the Arena team are attempting to unionize with the Communications Workers of America, under the banner United Wizards of the Coast. The group publicly launched its campaign on April 27, calling on Wizards of the Coast and parent company Hasbro to voluntarily recognize the union by May 1.
These employees are doing important and laudable work in response to being forced into a bad situation but I’m glad they still took the opportunity to call themselves “United Wizards”
WotC has still refused to recognize the union and has escalated to sending organizers letters directly to their homes about how unionizing is a bad idea. Luckily, our United Wizards are educated, organized, and agitated and the form letter from Hasbro was as laughable as it was threatening.
If you want to help out the United Wizards you can sign this petition

still think it’s incredible they made a movie musical about pt barnum where the point is like love and accept yourself no matter who you are or what you look like <3 when pt barnum irl was like exploitation georg who lives in a circus and and dehumanizes 10,000 people daily. not sure how they came up with that one
"Telling a fabricated story that audiences want to hear rather than anything faithful to actual facts about relevant history" is the most authentic experience a PT Barnum movie could possibly have been, though

this sounds like a party to me
I think it would be funny to write a murder mystery where not only did every single character involved have an obvious motive to kill this mf, they were actually all attempting to murder him first, but the murder attempts all cancelled each other out all except for one. Two people tried to poison him but the poisons just happen to work as antidotes for each other, and instead of killing him only gave him the shits, and due to having the shits he couldn't go hunting that day like he had planned, foiling the plans of the one who had conditioned his favourite hunting horse to panic and bolt at the cue of a whistle, and the other murder attempt of tampering with his gun so that it would have exploded his whole face off.
The whole mystery isn't about who could have done it or how, but who was the one who got lucky and actually succeeded.
Sherlock Holmes and The Case of Perhaps We'd Best Leave This One Alone, Watson. There Appears To Be An Excess Of Armed Maniacs In The Vicinity.
When I was in high school a friend of mine would host murder mystery dinners once or twice a year. They were the kind you could buy as a kit -- I don't even know if they exist anymore -- and everyone was assigned (or chose) a character, then received a booklet of clues to share. The idea was to spend an evening in a one-shot LARP designed like an Agatha Christie novel.
I was a year above most of them at school so they threw a "goodbye" murder mystery for me just before graduation, and about 2/3 of the way through the game we all realized that everyone had at least attempted to kill the victim. The game then shifted from "whodunnit" to "who succeeded in dunninit" which we all felt was not only super fun but above the usual level of narrative complexity for those games.
After we solved it, we discovered that the game wasn't from a kit -- the host had written it herself and meticulously printed out the booklets in replica style of the kits. It was the best going-away party I think I could possibly have had.

This is so intense like… if you miss your mark you get beheaded
You’re doing them a disservice by not including who they are! These girls are high school students. They are the Tomioka High School Dance Club from Tomioka High School in Osaka. They went viral in Japan when they got runner up in the “All-Japan High School Super Cup Dance-Off” held as part of Yokohama’s summer of dance this summer (August 2017). You’ll know Yokohama’s summers of dance from the regular mass Pikachu dances you see on social media each summer.
They’ve blown up since then. The promotional video they made at the school has more than 30 million views. They’ve been on tons of TV shows, including performances with Oginome Yoko, the original singer of the song (Dancing Hero (Eat You Up)) that they remixed for their dance.
This dance routine was riffing off the comedian Hirano Nora and actually includes some of her comedy catch phrases in the remix. (They even got her to join them eventually!) For the uninitiated, one of the most accessible forms of comedy in modern Japanese pop culture are comedians like this who create outlandish SNL type characters and then appear on one or more shows regularly as that character. Hirano Nora’s gimmick is that she’s a woman from the height of Japan’s “bubble economy” era in the 80′s when there were tons of newly wealthy yuppies. This is why the remix is called “Bubbly Dance”. (Compare her to similar comedy character Blouson Chiemi whose gimmick is that she’s a modern, man eating career woman.)
These girls deserve all the fame they’re getting. You can read about them in the Asahi Shinbun and also check out this piece on Akane, their 25 year old coach via Japan Forward.
what if we all explode

Honestly, I respect this. Is this a very dumb rich person problem that he threw money at? Yes, absolutely.
But one of my hats is safety coordinator for industrial research, and something our safety department asks us to remind our researchers regularly is that safety doesn't stop being a thing just because you're DIYing it at home. People very often make very stupid decisions when it comes to projects they are doing in their own home. (And industrial research scientists collect home projects like magpies collect shiny things.)
It would have been easy for this guy to try to climb up there himself or pay some random schmuck to do it or ask some friend whose kid rock climbs to do it. There is an entire category of tragic stories associated with people doing home improvement, realizing they need to get up somewhere high, and they or whoever they ask for help not being safe about it. But that's not what he did. He paid professionals for it, he paid a pair of them so they could be extra safe about it, he paid them rush and hazard pay, and they did navigate what would have been a dangerous task safely.
And let me tell you, there would be fewer safety horror stories in the world if more rich people and people doing home improvement behaved like this guy.
And he paid them fairly for their labor! $150 might not seem like much, but LASIK is at least a couple thousand dollars per eye, so a discounted one is huge.

So I happened across this little tidbit
...
There's one person working at the CDC right now with clinical experience with rabies. One.
I'm sure with the rise in anti-vaccine sentiment, especially regarding the rabies vaccine, this won't have any potentially dangerous repercussions...
Pausing testing is bad news, yes. Because then we don't get federal-level rabies prevalence data.
This isn't solely down to anti-vaxxer sentiment, though. This is the same type of intentional gutting of public health that this administration is famous for and that does end up endangering human health. Individual states and municipalities still require rabies vaccination for domestic animals and will issue fines if you don't get your pets vaccinated. But a pre-exposure rabies vaccine isn't typically given to human beings unless they are intentionally placing themselves in an environment where the risk of contracting rabies is higher (e.g., a scientist studying bats or a wildlife rehabilitation specialist).
Human rabies vaccination is typically post-exposure prophylaxis (a series of shots after suspected exposure to the virus). What pausing rabies surveillance does is blind us to current and future rabies outbreaks in animal populations, which then raises the likelihood of increased rabies exposure in humans.
This fucking sucks but the advice remains the same: if you are bitten by ANY feral or wild animal, go get rabies prophylaxis. I had a friend who was bitten by a feral kitten. I still told her to get rabies shots, which she did. Because once you start showing symptoms, you are already dead. Don't fuck around with rabies.
As a registered veterinary technician, my anti-vaccine comment was about domestic cats and dogs. Which is why I was sarcastically saying that that growing sentiment and now this lack of testing surely won't have any repercussions.
It's the rabies vaccine legally required for dogs and cats? Yes.
Are there communities online that make fake rabies certificates that I've seen people admit to using? Yes.
Are some counties/cities so backed up and understaffed that there are people who have never received something telling them to license their dog and people use that as an excuse to not get the rabies vaccine? Yes.
Do people have outdoor cats that they simply never take to the vet? Yes.
Do many breeders tell people to delay or even avoid the rabies vaccine entirely? Yes.
Are there people who refuse to vaccinate that vet clinics will still see their pets? Yes. And since I'm the only rabies vaccinated tech at my work I get to handle these animals yaaaaay

People who say "Society loves tomboys! Society has no problem with women embracing masculinity!" have never spoken to an (ex-)tomboy about what people started saying to them at puberty.
