It's a good thing Suki taught Sokka feminism in season one bc if she didn't it would've been up to Toph and I don't think Sokka could've survived that lol
there's a really funny 3d printing controversy going on btw.
if you don't know, there's a very popular 3d printing model out there called "benchy". this is used for benchmarking your 3d printer because it's a difficult print and will help test it out.
this is so widely used that people make their own little versions of it, remixing the 3d model to make benchy look cooler and stuff. however, a new company owns the benchy license. they are sending copyright takedowns to all those who wrongfully uploaded the benchy model.
of course, this is pissing off the 3d printing community greatly. everyone loved benchy and have used it for years. so someone on reddit decided to make a new model that is designed as a 3d printing stress test. one that works a lot like benchy, and people are freely able to edit it as they please. you know what they called it?
boaty.

"Way too reliable narrator" where the narrator provides documentation and proof for how they know every detail in the narrative and an estimate of how confident they are in it.

fuck it, i never ever do thoseĀ āreblog for X, this one really works!ā posts, but this one doesnāt have any of that BS, this is just straight up wishing us good things; and then the comment doesnāt even say any of that either. Zero claims on this post, all positive vibes
May you end this week feeling ever more certain of a future youāll love
One thing I think Leverage does really well is keep the stakes manageable. The biggest stakes/most outrageous scenes are probably at the end of season 3 with the Damien Moreau arc; Hardison and Parker with the bomb and Eliot surviving the ākill boxā in The Big Bang Job are really the only moments in the entire series that my willful suspension of disability canāt handle. And honestly, if it wasnāt in the same episode as the Eliot scene, Iād probably give them the bomb scene.
(Small caveat: I have a VERY accommodating willful suspension of disbelief, so Iām certain other peopleās mileage may vary)
Even the San Lorenzo job, which has enormous stakes because they are stealing a country, establishes early on that itās a very small country and that Moreau doesnāt control the internet, which makes everything else more plausible and grounded in reality.
And then what happens at the beginning of season 4? They go back to business as usual. There must have been temptation to keep upping the stakes, to keep going bigger and bigger, but the show doesnāt fall into that trap. It keeps the heart of the show at the center - the team working together to help people and take down bad guys. Even the big season 4 arc is just a longer, stretched out version of the same thing they always do, just with two evil greedy CEOs. And season 5 is more of the same until the series finale, which ups the stakes for the characters but not for the world.
In a current media landscape that forces street level superheroes in galaxy spanning multiverse adventures with always increasing stakes, itās really refreshing to go back to a show that knows exactly what it is and does it well.

"Walkable city" is not "City where to have to walk everywhere."
"Walkable city" is.
Sidewalks big enough to fit you, your stroller, your wheelchair, your guide dog, or anything else you need when you're getting from one place to another.
Safe crosswalks frequent enough so you don't need to walk in traffic.
Bike lanes to keep bikes out of foot traffic and car traffic.
Accessible and affordable public transit.
Cities where the essentials are close enough you can travel on foot (or in wheelchair)
Cities where it's reasonable to be able to get from point a to point b without requiring you, yourself, to drive
People get so caught up in the "Walkable" part of the term and like to spout "Walkable cities are abelist because not everyone can walk".
Bitch. The modern city structure is abelist because not everyone can drive. And classist because not everyone can afford a car and it's pretty damn impossible to get a job if you don't have a car.
Walkable cities are cities where people can reasonably get from pointA to pointB without requiring a motor vehicle.
"But fae. Disabled people have issues using the paths in modern cities." Bitch abled people can barely use the paths in modern cities. That's kind of the fucking problem.
Also walkable cities have fucking benches. Not only for disabled people. But sometimes you just twist your ankle and need to sit for a moment.
"Put fae. If you have benches, homeless people will sleep on them."
Then get fucking housing for the homeless. Problem solved. They'll sleep in their nice warm homes instead of on the benches.

I just finished watching Glass Onion for the third time so now you get to hear my rant about it but the details are out of order in the timeline because Iām lazy
(SPOILERS AHEAD)
When Miles lifts the gun off of Duke, we can actually see it pre-Blanc explaining it. The scene where the two hug you can see Miles take the gun and slip it into the back of his jeans.
Following the gun thing, we, the viewers actually SEE the gun itself (pre-Blancās explanation) when Miles goes back to the mini bar to put it in the ice bucket. Although itās kind of hard to see itās very clearly a gun but our eyes manipulate our minds into thinking itās a drink because it is indeed a minibar.
They show how Miles places the drink in Dukes hand pre Blancās explanation but quickly distract us with the groups dynamic and Birdie.
Phillip is skeptical of Helen when she asks for Blanc, we can assume that he and Blanc have had negative run ins with people from jobs. Also Phillip might be judging Helenās character, who she is, because he doesnāt want to put Blanc into a situation where heās in true danger. Heās a detective not Batman.
Birdies mask at the beginning of the movie at the boat is just fucking chains across her face in diamond pattern.
Blanc doesnāt have a gag reflex when the dude in the white suit puts Miles ācovid vaxā down his throat. (Bc heās š³ļøāš)
Andi, when she first comes up with the idea for Alpha and starts working with Miles, is wearing dark colors. The dark blue pinstripe suit, her completely black ensamble when we see her at the Glass Onion (the bar). But when sheās challenging Miles sheās wearing both Black and white. At the trial sheās wearing a light almost off white suit. Why is this important? Because what color is Helen wearing when she shuts miles down? White. The color white is, in itself, a color that symbolizes Miles downfall.
Connecting back to the white idea, Whiskey is wearing all white (her bathing suit) when she reveals crucial information about Miles giving her the Taurus necklace for her birthday. (Which leads to his downfall when Blanc puts 2+2 together that he killed Andi)
āIm really bad at dumb thingsā -Blanc. The reason he didnāt catch on to what was going on with Miles earlier was because Miles is stupid. Miles is so dumb that he fucking befuddled Blanc because Miles is so stupid.
Blanc isnāt uncomfortable about his arousal around Birdie when she put her legs up on him while Miles talks about being āDisruptersā. Heās uncomfortable because heās GAY and has a BOYFRIEND/HUSBAND.
Thereās a bunch of owls and small trinkets of birds in Birdies room.
The movie, at the very beginning, with Miles mystery invitation box thing hints at where the envelope is hidden. The fibonacci sequence on the box has the center blocked out in black, where we will later see in the film is red which is where Miles is hiding the envelope. For fucks sake the movie even goes out of its way, with Dukes mother, to point out the sequence. (āThe first oneās a fibonacci sequenceā -Dukes mom).
During the dinner Whiskey is wearing the same golden chain body jewelry that Birdie was wearing earlier at the pool. So this could mean two things: 1. They have the same chain and 2. Whiskey borrowed the chain from Birdie.
Now connecting to my first point about the chain jewelry above. The reason why Miles likes Whiskey, despite her sleeping with him for the sake of Dukes channel, is because Whiskey reminds him of younger Birdie. Birdie even talks to Peg about how dazzled and amazed Miles was when he first met her and how she wishes it was like that again. Then when theyāre smashing the glass sculptures, the first thing Whiskey smashes is a sculpture of a bird. Hence smashing Miles perception of her as another person he can use like he used Birdie.
āYou have him turn around so he can have deniabilityā -Aaron Burr in Hamilton (Basically what Blanc was thinking when he walked out of the room)
When Blanc is trying to light his cigar in the āSmokeless gardenā the reason the alarms go off is because because just the smoke and small flames from Blancās cigar could cause āanother Hindenburgā.
The ending scene with Helen and Blanc after Blanc asks her if sheās ready to go home, Helenās sitting stance mimics the Mona Lisa. Miles said āIt all started with herā in reference to his success being inspired by the Mona Lisa. But it all ended with Helen and her stance at the end mimicking the Mona Lisa is meant to represent that. The beginning and end of Miles Bron.
Blanc refers to alchol as offering Helen āsome courageā. Ofc as we all know alcohol is commonly referred to as āLiquid Courageā.
We shouldāve known Miles was the killer for this simple reason: The glass he handed to Duke. Duke dying holding Milesās glass is literally like a signed note. Duke died with Miles name literally written on the crime scene.
imagine being one of the third graders in Helenās class. like okay your teacher is out for a week, you have a sub, life goes on. then suddenly you start seeing her on the news (!!!) and hold on a minuteā Ms Brand is the twin sister of a murdered celebrity?? and in the week sheās been out, sheās blown up a billionaireās private island and destroyed the MONA LISA and proven that some energy source called Klear is evil?? (youāre like 8 so that last bit isnāt so exciting, but your parents are really worked up about it). Ms Brand, who puts smiley-face stickers on your math quizzes and helps you set up your funny zoom backgrounds? I guarantee that whole class would go NUTS
Something I love immediately about Glass Onion is that on a basic level it looks and feels So different than Knives Out. Most obviously is the setting and the colors. Both the Thrombey house and the Glass Onion are characters in their own rightāRian Johnson does an amazing job telling story through settingābut they are not at all similar. One is warm and cozy, autumnal, cramped, the home of a man obsessive murder mystery author. The other is bright, sleek, loud, summery, the ostentatious mansion of an indulgent billionaire. Browns and oranges and sepia vs white and blues and yellows. Wood accents vs glass. They feel completely different.
The easy, boring, lazy thing to do would have been to bank on the success and love for the original film, and stay in that comfortable autumnal coloring. Play on the positive associations of that feel of the first movie, and hope that it tricks the audience into loving this one too. Sooo many film makers would have done this. So many sequels do this. And it would have Ruined the film. I am So Happy Rian Johnson didnāt.
The movie (Glass Onion) really played with our expectations in the first half and I absolutely loved it.
At the start of the movie, when everyone was receiving their boxes from Miles Bron, and there was the whole āmurder mystery thingā, I thought that obviously Miles Bron was going to be murdered, and they were going to have to figure out who killed him. So the entire first half of the movie, I was analyzing each character EXCEPT Miles Bron to try to figure out who was the murderer. And the narrative seemingly supported this erroneous conclusion I made - Benoit points out that each character has a reason to kill Miles, etc. I was a little thrown when Duke was killed, but then seemingly vindicated when it was revealed he had drank from Milesās glass. I realize now that most of the assumptions I had made was because of Knives Out - in Knives Out, the patriarch of the family was killed, and all these people who had something to gain or lose from the inheritance were suspects.
I also took Benoit at his word that he had received his box anonymously, and I was trying to figure out who sent him his box. I thought it was exactly like Knives Out - Benoit received an anonymous invitation. I was analyzing each character and āknewā that the only character who didnāt send their box to Blanc was Andi, because she smashed hers. Again, my expectations were totally played with.
During the second half of the movie I realized how foolish I had been. It was a masterstroke by Rian Johnson to not have us analyzing the characters we should have been looking closely at all along and seemingly āeliminatingā them from our suspects.

Do you think I can have one more kiss?
Iāll find closure on your lips and then Iāll go.
Maybe, also one more breakfast, one more lunch and one more dinner.
Iāll be full and happy and we can part.
But in between meals, maybe we can lie in bed one more time.
One more prolonged moment where time suspends indefinitely as I rest my head on your chest.
My hope, is if we add up the one mores it will equal a lifetime and I never have to get to the part where I have to let you go.
But thatās not real, is it?
There are no more, one mores.
I met you when everything was new and exciting and the possibilities of the world seemed endless.
And they still are, for you, for me, but not for us.
Somewhere between then and now, here and there, I guess we didnāt just grow apart, we grew up.
When something breaks, and the pieces are big enough, you can fix it.
I guess sometimes things donāt break, they shatter, but when you let the light in, shattered glass will glitter.
And in those moments, when the pieces catch the sun, Iāll remember just how beautiful it was. Just how beautiful it will always be, because it was us, and we are magic, forever.
Was also thinking about Hardison as a friendly well-adjusted hacker and he shouldāve gotten to call in the help of internet friends more. Maybe he did and Iām forgetting, but every time Eliot went āI know a guy⦠we worked together in [insert foreign country], deep cover paramilitary stuffā, Hardison shouldāve gone āI also know a guy, from my twitch streamā
HOW could this have gotten left in the TAGS????
