she's a hero. she should dump her west brit "friends" and become friends with me instead
Languages that aren't spoken dissappear. I have a friend who speaks Armenian to her kids. She learned from her grandparents, too. Her grandfather escaped genocide and starvation as a child. An older sister, who was only 14 or 15 herself, got all her younger siblings and cousins to Canada. My friend wants the language to stay alive.
My dad doesn't speak his mother's language, even though he understands it and can reply appropriately in English. Therefore I have never learned her language. I wish they had tried earlier so my brain was wired for it. Sometimes I'm barely verbal in English.
My pixel art from 2017 to now :-3
going to spend 2024 focusing on my fundamentals. i have some ideas for big pieces but i need to learn a few things before i can pull it off. thanks for everyone who followed me through the years! :-))
google help me
the thing is, stephen king is generally pretty good at creating complex, well-rounded characters, which makes it all the more jarring when one of those characters abruptly comes out with what i'll term a "kingism". i don't know how best to define a kingism other than "you'll know it when you see it". it's the voice of the author intruding on the voice of the character, and in this case the voice of the author has a bad sense of humour and is ravenously, inexplicably horny
random example of a kingism aka "he would not fucking say that"
this too is a kingism
one of the hallmarks of a kingism is that when a character is being Horny On Main (or In Maine), they can never do it in a normal way. they have to come up with a sequence of words that nobody has ever said before in the history of the english language. here's another example:
i'm starting a collection
A nonbinary child was murdered recently and I’ve been reporting multiple transphobic comments misgendering them, mocking their death, and deadnaming them. But they stay up. Tumblr won’t do anything about it. But they drop everything to permanently ban a trans women.
Really shows their priorities.
I’m not seeing many people post about this and it’s very disappointing.
Nex Benedict, a 16 year old nonbinary student at Owasso high school in Oklahoma, was murdered on February 8th. They were beaten to death by 3 cisgender girls in the girls bathroom.
Nex was brutally beaten to death and was denied care. Teachers refused to call an ambulance for them.
The news is deadnaming them, describing their death as ‘unexpected’, as a ‘physical altercation’, and saying it was ‘a fight’. The news is erasing Nex’s identity and trying to erase the fact this is a targeted hate crime.
Please don’t let another trans murder be ignored.
they were also apparently Choctaw (early reports that actually mentioned they were native mislabeled them as Cherokee)

Good Experience: My creative writing professor, one of the kindest, most open-minded arts teachers in any media that I have ever had, gave us an entire thirty minutes to just bring up stupid writing advice and complain about it.
Bad Experience: One of my classmates brought up how people always tell her to delete the word "very," and then she asked us how we felt about "very," and I completely forgot that I was a real boy in the real world and not on Tumbler dot Com, so I answered, "I love her. She's my girlfriend." And my professor was like "Did you just say the word 'very' is your girlfriend?????" and I had to just nod silently and reckon with the permanent damage this website has done to my brain.
She's "kind of given up" on trying to be tidy.
From the beginning, Kondo made clear that her style wasn’t about minimalism or holding your home to some kind of bizarre standard of tidiness — it was about joy. If you liked a type of pen, buy more of that type of pen. If you wanted your living room to be filled with pinball machines, do that (a woman she helped on her show did exactly that.
Now she’s got three kids and her joy is sparked by spending time with them rather than tidying up.
May we all have as much intentional joy in our lives as Marie Kondo. I used to feel guilty about the clutter and tchotchkes that we have in our condo — about half our home decor comes from Spirit of Halloween — but she made me realize that all the weird skulls and spooky stuff is what makes me happy in my own home. To Hell with minimalism, I’m gonna be the weird Halloween house 24/7/365.
god i LOVE marie kondo for exactly this!!! ive been working on making sure that i actually really like as many things in my home as possible - from big furniture and art right down to cups and forks. its been so lovely seeing my space filling up with things that make me smile to see them ❤️
One totally underrated arc in YOI is the pipeline from Yuuri being a fanboy of Viktor to
Viktor becoming a total fanboy of Yuuri.
and while I am convinced that they will continue as fanboys of one another (and husbands!), I love this detail so much because their mutual admiration for each other is what inspires them to keep skating.
Yuuri pursued a career in figure skating because he admired Viktor, and even when he was at his lowest, this kept him going. And by the end of the show, Viktor admires Yuuri's skating so much that he decides to come back from his hiatus to compete again him.
It's obvious. It's not news. But this symmetry, how they inspire each other and reignite each other's passion is killing me.
"i would kill for you" "i would die for you" okay but would you forgive me if i forgot something important for the 51204th time in a row even though i tried my best to remember

One of the things that deserves more credit for in YSBLF is the visual storytelling and how the scenes are directed in a way that reflects the storytelling.
In the above scene, at first viewing nothing in particular jumps out. We've seen many scenes with this exact setup, the board members around the table, Armando all nervous and anxious about concealing the company's financial status, Daniel suspicious about everything, Marcela being annoyed, Betty coming in to save Armando with more lies, blah blah... What's also quite normal is Armando pulls a seat for Betty next to him, he does it as naturally as putting on his cologne.
Look in particular at when Armando pushes his chair to the side and pulls up a new chair. Betty comes to sit on the chair that he was sitting on.
What happened that day was the finalization of the embargo with Betty's lawyer and the court secretary making their rounds through Ecomoda to take inventory of the machines, materials, etc. When Armando signs the embargo papers, he, as a matter of fact, has handed Betty the control of the company.
The scene visually shows that the 'seat of power' has moved from Armando to Betty, which i think is pretty neat.
imagine the most meanspirited, unlikeable, rude, bitter, self centered, negative person you can think of. not a rapist, not a murderer, not an abuser. just a charmless, tactless, dyed in the wool asshole you wouldn't want to spend two seconds with. now assume they get sick, not with the flu, but with a long term, serious illness that limits their ability to provide for themself. a society in which that person is left to die alone because nobody likes them on a personal level is a failed society.
and the thing is, no matter how likeable or charming or cute you are, peoples' patience runs out. the friends who drop everything to rush you to the ER the first time you shit blood tell you to stop being so tmi the fourteenth time. people might give you a couch to crash on the first week after your shitty ex kicks you out, but by week eight, you better have another place to stay. people run out of time, patience, money, compassion, energy. there needs to be an impersonal option, a real safety net that isn't going to dump you when you become inconvenient
