i must say, i am a huge fan of when a book is in the middle of a very exciting plot containing many interesting problems when out of nowhere for a few pages it's like, "hey by the way, real quick, here's a detailed explanation of the city's water filtration system! i'm telling you this for a reason and you should worry about it. anyway! haha okay back to the plot" and you just get to be Scared for a while

working at a university really makes any romance set among college undergraduates unreadable but ESPECIALLY the dark romances where they're supposed to be like sinister mastermind daddy doms. he's 20 years old dude. there's a good chance he doesn't know how to do laundry. I know a guy who was living in a house with 4 other dudes when he was 20 and they were all sharing one fork. that guy's not leading the college mafia.

At least when Ninth House went for this vibe, it also made explicitly clear that the secret societies at the college were like, the junior members of the real society. They're not empowering themselves with occult rituals so much as they're performing occult rituals of power for alumni who might, in turn, give them an internship. Like, you have to keep the college dynamic in there too.

very cool how the gender binary in the emerging trad terf synthesis is like, there are two genders, the one that does bad things and the one that bad things are done to. the only thing in the world is immorality and it flows from unexperiencing agents to unacting experiencers.

which naturally appeals to people who would like to be perceived as inherently lacking the capacity for immorality. for whatever reason

anyway remember bell hooks’s very cogent critique of second-wave feminist organizing in ‘sisterhood: solidarity between women’ where she argues that by “bonding as ‘victims’, white women’s liberationists were not required to assume responsibility for confronting the complexity of their own experience … Identifying as ‘victims’, they could abdicate responsibility for their role in the maintenance and perpetuation of sexism, racism, and classism.” it’s not by accident that terf gender essentialism dovetails so much with other biological-determinist & essentialist assumptions including Extremely Racist Ones

saw a post about this earlier but it made me think: tumblr really is the only social media site where I go on and have a good time and then carry on with my day. I know it's completely curated because there are some awful people here but that (the curation) in itself is a privilege of the site. Every other social media site is designed to make you angry for more engagement

You also shouldn't queue a post, that would make people keep remembering this post for a longer time, which is the opposite of forgetting
