Drawing fat characters will make you a better artist, btw. Unironically, once you know how, you will not want to go back
I know it's a pain to find good photo-refs, but study-vice, morpho is always a good starting point! Also pay attention to people around you, observation is part of studying too. Use your body as a guide. As a friend.
Morpho: Fat and Skin folds is a book all about drawing plus-size people. It's a part of the Morpho series by Michel Lauricella.
If others know other recourses, please drop them in the notes, I've definitely seen more but have a bad habit of not saving stuff in a timely manner
fatphotoref.com â requires admittance but is a very good resource
adorkastock.com â has models of all kinds of body shapes and has filtering options
You can also definitely use pinterest by looking up simple keywords
people got mad the last time i said this but you HAVE to stop pretending that people of the past were more intellectual and thoughtful and you need to model yourself after them because modernity pales in comparison. that's nazi shit
basically

So, what is "love", exactly?
...I am not sure. I only know that I no longer have the omnipresent love of Heaven and I need a replacement.
Enough pixels have been burnt to death analysing the interest of women (general) in m/m fiction. Action and reaction, hot takes and cold takes and responses to both. Much has been commented, by every gender and sexuality under the sun.
I have never seen any pixels spilled on the topic of âalso, some women are just tops. They like m/m, because itâs one of the few consistent ways to read good porn about topping.â
It is generally accepted that some people in queer couplings have a preference. Sometimes itâs a very strong preference. Sometimes itâs part of their own identity! But straight cis people are told, by mainstream and queer communities, that tab A belongs in slot B unless youâre queer.
If you can be brought to understand that topping/bottoming are roles that can be preferred in queer coupling, which arenât necessarily fixed, âobviousâ or detectable to outsiders, but that some people do have a strong preference, you can hopefully understand that this can also be true of straight people.
And ideally an evolved understanding will be that quite a lot of people might be giving or receiving sex in ways you canât tell by looking at their haircuts. Some queer people have fixed preferences, some donât; many relationships are versatile; oneâs preference in the act can be entirely decoupled from oneâs model of attraction, model of gender, and model of presentation.
My point is that some women, including straight cisgender women, can be preferentially vers or tops - just the same as anyone else - but theyâre very limited by social expectations and their choices of partner. Same as anyone else. And vice versa; this generous planet is home to plenty of people who prefer to receive, but who have received variations on the designation of âstraight man.â
And my theory here is that there are more women of varying identities and attractions in these groups than has ever been acknowledged, because straight people arenât competent in expressing it, and queer people arenât especially good at allowing interiority in straight people. Weâre all picking at gender and attraction as if they have ANYTHING to do with what people like to do in bed, and assume that it has anything to do with what people do in bed, while at the same time saying loftily âitâs reductive to associate bottoming with femininity in queer couplesâ - come on now! It should be reductive in everybody.
As a result, you have cis gay men loftily pronouncing judgment upon everyone else writing penetrative sex scenes with men , because they have forgotten that âevenâ cis straight women can both give and receive anal sex with men⌠letting alone everyone else. Sure, in recent years, people have started pointing out that bi women, trans women, trans men, genderfluid people, and the entire asexual community can also write competently about sex. But the problem is still that this is focusing entirely upon the equipment that people happen to have, and not their desire; a missing component in the discourse! And itâs driven by the fact that not even the queer community are quite able to detach desire from oneâs tackle.
Anyway! Iâll repeat myself: sometimes people without equipment are tops; some people whom society has assigned to be givers actually prefer to receive; some people donât care much; and that doesnât necessarily say anything about them. and they may have a range of attraction that ranges from same-gender to different-gender. Itâs a fact of life.
Itâs a small and specific point, and I am specifically speaking here of âstraight cis woman who likes m/m fanficâ as an exemplar, just because itâs tumblr and there have been so many pixels burnt over this archetype. but I do think the greater point needs to be part of queer liberation. Assigning certain sexual preferences and desires based on presumptions of gender and equipment is not liberation.
And if a lady of ANY identity reading this suddenly has a lightbulb moment and realises sheâs vers or a top - which apparently happens quite a lot when I talk about it - then Iâm glad you got to read this, and I think youâre marvellous; if nobody else sees you, then I do.

"im a misandrist but not in a terfy way"
theres no feminist way to be a misandrist that doesnt bleed into terf ideology.
if youre a misandrist, then i dont trust you not to be racist towards men of color.
if youre a misandrist, then i dont trust you not to be ableist towards disabled and/or neurodivergent men.
if youre a misandrist, then i dont trust you not to be intersexist towards intersex men or intersex people that look like men.
if youre a misandrist, then i dont trust you not to be transphobic towards trans women who don't want to pass or cant pass for whatever reason.
if youre a misandrist, then i dont trust you not to be transphobic towards trans men.
if youre a misandrist, then i dont trust you not to be exorsexist towards nonbinary men or nonbinary people who might look like men.
if youre a misandrist, i dont fucking trust you. you are not an ally to me or to marginalized people.

something I want to say as a personal statement, speaking for me, Shelby Donahue:
It always troubles me when people talk about trans women (like Meagan and Autumn Hill, my partners who I talk to every day) in men's prisons, describing them as "rape concentration camps" and emphasizing the sexual violence there. Both Meagan and Autumn Hill have told me, explicitly, that the vast majority of their fellow prisoners respect them and respect their gender, and while some prisoners have been threatening (particularly to Meagan), that the violence against them has primarily come from the institutional systems of the guards, wardens, etc. I know this in part because of their actions: Meagan and Autumn Hill have consistently helped their fellow prisoners, with little things like getting artwork to help a prisoner draw a birthday card for his child, or bigger things like helping someone get back in contact with their family. And a lot of prisoners have been supportive to Meagan and Autumn Hill, especially when they know about the Prairieland case. They make snacks to share, trade books, and comfort Meagan when she's feeling particularly sad.
I say all this for two reasons. The first is that prisoners are not all rapists or bigots, and in fact many of them are not even guilty of the crimes they're arrested for. They're an oppressed class of people, even the worst of them, and they deserve to be understood as individuals, not a nameless and faceless mass of violent threats. And, as individuals, a lot of them have been good comrades to Meagan and Autumn Hill. I want people to keep that in mind when thinking about prisoners. There's a lot of racial stereotypes and bigotries in the way people think of prisoners in the USA, and we need to unlearn those things and understand prisoners as people, as our equals.
The second reason is that you, and me, and everyone we know may end up in jail, or prison. I think about that a lot - getting raided by the FBI will have that effect on you. If we end up in prison, we have to understand the risks and dangers realistically, without excessive fear or unrealistic optimism. And I think it's important people know the facts about what prison is like, and what prisoners are like. Not everyone is violent in prison - but everyone there is the victim of a lot of violence. There are potential friends and allies everywhere.
