Project Hail Mary x Iron Lung x Mouthwashing crossover
Hear me out.
Rocky and Grace have already rescued Simon, and are on their way to Erid (the development of their bonds can be different, but because I’m a sucker for fluff most of the initial distrust/fear/etc. has calmed down and friendship-ness is developing.
They’re all doing whatever you do when you’re gonna be stuck on a small spaceship for a few years, when Mary announces ‘Blip E detected.”
NOTE: I chose to go with Blip E because the first one was Rocky’s Ship, the next two were his messages, and the one after that would have been the SM-13 (unless I forget something, and if which that is the case please let me know and I will fix it)
Lo and behold, outside their window is the Tulpar surrounded by some asteroids, looking beat up to all hell.
Rocky notices that there’s multiple bodies inside, and that prompts Grace to try and hail (ha) them on their radio, only to get no response.
They’re about to give up and call it quits when Rocky starts yammering about movement—small, but there.
This convinces Simon and Grace to suit up in the EVAs and at the very least do a quick sweep of the ship if only for peace of mind.
They come across Swansea, shot and tied to a chair.
Anya, slumped over from her suicide.
Jimmy, lying on a hallway floor, gunshot wound through the mouth.
And finally, they come across the room with the capsules, and there they find one active cryo chamber, and the barely alive teenager sitting against it.
Somehow, despite all odds, Daisuke survived whatever bloodbath happened in the vents and an axe to the face.
NOTE: the events of Mouthwashing ended shortly before the appearance of the Hail Mary, so while highly impossible it makes it convenient for the sake of plot for there to be a possibility of Daisuke’s survival
The sight of a severely injured and bloody person obviously jolts Grace and Simon into action. They go through the process of getting Daisuke on their ship and to the medbay where Armando can work his shit.
They do open the cryo chamber, and to their immense horror find Curly. (Unfortunately for Jimmy, the blond died in the pod.)
They just look at each other, and slowly close the cryo chamber. They really were not expecting that.
Time passes as they wait for Daisuke to wake up, which he does after a days (presumably; it’s hard to tell time in space, after all.)
He is rightfully freaking the fuck out, all the traumatic shit that would probably happen after waking up after you thought you died on a completely different ship with two grown ass men you don’t know and a rock.
Things calm down, explanations are given by Grace, and Daisuke shares what he knows:

Jimmy blamed it on Curly, but Daisuke has his doubts
Curly was fucked up and put in the medbay, where Anya spent most of her time
He didn’t really see much of the woman because he stuck around Swansea for the most part, not really able to do anything as the man got drunk on mouthwash
Jimmy came to him, saying he needed his help talking to Anya, getting her to open the door
Jimmy guided him through making a spiked drink to give to Swansea so they could get to the vent
Daisuke gets his first round of injuries crawling through the enclosed space, something that felt like electricity but ended up with him really bloody
He manages to reach the medbay, but Anya has already died
He opens the door but blacks out after that, waking up to Swansea kneeling above him
Daisuke doesn’t remember anything else until he woke up on the new ship, but something must have happened because he does not remember getting the deep slash on his face from the vents.
Everybody is rightfully horrified by what they heard.
As Daisuke’s explanations shift to Pony Express and why they were carrying mouthwash, Grace, Simon, and Rocky are hit with a sense of deja-vu, because this did not happen in either of their universes.
Simon suggests it might be like his situation: a wormhole appeared, splicing one world into another.
Explanations finally over, Daisuke is left to heal more, with Rocky keeping him company with daily visits from Grace and check-ins with Simon every now and then.
Initial angst over (for now) that found family shit can begin. Simon and Grace grow to be figures that Daisuke looks up to, like a mentor or something of a parental figure, and they become a little unit.
“Grace-Simon-Daisuke clan of three, statement,” Rocky proclaims.
They get to Erid, the biodome is built, they all live in a house together as one big happy family yay.
Additional Notes
It has been a minute since I’ve consumed any Mouthwashing content, so I do not remember if Daisuke has a canon age; when typing this I envisioned him to be around 18/19, maybe very early twenties (like 20 or 21)
I do not know the specifics of Daisuke’s injuries, just that he came out of the vent bloody and then got axed in the face; I assume he was electrocuted in the vents, but the amount of blood staining his clothes feels like it’s too much (but who knows I’m not a doctor) so perhaps he got stabbed with some shrapnel too
I just remembered that Jimmy played dolls with everyone’s dead bodies, so for the sake of this AU he was just hallucinating them around the table as he cut Curly’s leg (sorry Curly)
If anyone actually does create something about this AU please tag me in it, I would like to see it
