I don't give two shits about this show but I agree that it's not what Anakin is supposed to be like. My guy is awkward and not really sociable and generally not the person you'd want to be around. Not every character has to be "charismatic" to be interesting. I think it's more admirable to be able to write a person who's a complete loser than another cool guy. Star Wars already has plenty of these.

He (most probably) was already a Senator before Padmé was even born. Palpatine (also most probably) was one of the people she has been around the most. And even with that, Padmé was able to sense that something was off about him, yet she chose to put her faith in him anyway to save her people. It's unfair how disastrously it turned out for her in the end.
