The Christmas holiday break is just around the corner. Can you feel it? Hang in there babe, we’re almost there! And what better time to bury your head in a book and escape for a little while? After all, the Summer break is the ideal time to chill out by the beach or pool, curl up with a good book and soak in the sun. So today I’m sharing with you the top books on my reading list for the holidays.

Why are they all self-development books you may ask? Let me fill you in on an little interesting fact about me. I don’t read fictional books! Never have really. Even in high-school I struggled to read the selected novel of choice for my English class. I may have started them but I’m pretty sure I never actually finished a fiction book (school was not my jam, OK). Plus I absolutely LOVE learning and growing. All these books have something to offer that is different from each other. Some are more educational, others more conversational and inspiring leaving you with a challenge or call to rise. But I promise you, if you’re the kind of person who loves to grow and become a better you than the person you were a month ago, a day ago or even 5 minutes ago, you’re guaranteed to love these books.

2. Life and Love – Lisa Messenger 

3. Mastering Your Mean Girl – Melissa Ambrosini

4. The Grace Awakening – Chuck Swindoll

5. Switch On Your Brain – Caroline Leaf

6. The Virgin Monologues – Carrie Lloyd (I’ve already read this but it’s on my re-read list!)

7. Keep Your Love On – Danny Silk

I’m not banking that I’ll read ALL of these over the Summer but I am hoping I’ll definitely get through three (or is that too optimistic?). I’ll also mention that a couple of these books make references to God or their personal relationship with God. Don’t let that scare you away. These books have SO much wisdom and inspiration in them and I am firm believer that you don’t have to agree with everything that a particular person says to understand their viewpoint or a lesson they are trying to share. ‘Eat the chicken and spit and out the bones’. In other words, take what you like from the book and discard the rest.

We are now starting to hit the high 30s (celsius degrees) and I thought, why not do a blog post on sandals!? I don’t know about you but I feel like these are the go-to shoe of Summer and I love wearing sandals, particularly block-heel types because they are so comfy yet still feminine.
