Something about the bastardization of the story time and time again proves that nobody in power really cares about the people who would resonate with King’s Carrie White. A girl so ugly and repulsive she’s been removed from her own story. The societal need for women and girls to be constantly perceived as attractive is what fuels a fair amount of her torment in the book, but that person isn’t even allowed to exist on the screen. We cannot empathize with her; it isn’t allowed. It’s fascinating to me.
One thing I think the fandom sometimes forgets is that Maul is canonically disabled. He is an amputee. Not just missing a limb or a few fingers, but his ENTIRE lower half. There are definitely some fics out there that really do this characterization well though.
Yeah, he's incredibly capable in combat, and his cybernetic legs let him do things that seem almost impossible. But that doesn't change the fact that he lost the entire lower half of his body. It’s one of the defining aspects of his character, physically and mentally. Maul: Shadow Lord also reminds us that his prosthetics come with limitations and aren't a perfect replacement for a biological body.
Which got me thinking about something I can't stop wondering:
How does Maul actually eat, digest and pass food?
Do you think his cybernetics include something like a stoma or an artificial waste-processing system? Has there ever been any lore that addresses this, or is it just one of those questions we're not supposed to think too hard about? I have yet to see anyone talk about this.
I like to think it does, but it's not as effective as it could be. Maul just doesn't notice because he developed an eating disorder from Sidious's training involving withholding food, messing with Maul's food, and/or only allowing him to eat scraps and then shaming him for being hungry. He already associates eating with being uncomfortable so he can't tell the difference from the refeeding syndrome and his cybernetics not properly digesting his food.
Every time I think about Naboo it gets worse it get. Of course Palpatine is from Naboo, he’s like the planet’s perfect son.
Why would the physical manifestation of oppression come from Naboo it’s not like our planet is segregated and the native population can’t travel off world or trade with the greater galaxy unless it’s through our spaceport. It’s all cool though cause we let Jarjar in the senate so we technically let them off planet to represent themselves.

I hate the excuse that Devon is blinded by the dark side so she doesn't suspect Maul of getting Daki killed, when she already knew that Maul wanted her master dead even before she went to the dark side. She literally had to physically intervene to stop Maul from murdering Daki. I don't care how many tag-team fights you have with your kidnapper afterwards, the dark side doesn’t give you amnesia. You'd remember everything and never forgive or forget or accept anything, regardless of how dire circumstances get. If anything, Devon's anger and rage and grief should have been aimed at Maul and Vader both. Maul is the catalyst for the entire tragedy. Devon should have been smart enough to trace the domino effect: If Maul hadn't kidnapped her, Daki wouldn't have had to come out of hiding. If Maul hadn't caused absolute chaos on Janix, the Empire wouldn't have tracked them down. Even if Devon did not see Maul push Daki; she should still be blaming him for getting him killed indirectly.
Daki's death should have resulted in Devon not wanting anything to do with Maul because he is a unhinged death magnet, not her wanting to be his apprentice because she is angry. Maul isn't even a good look for a supreme teacher that can make you strong, considering that Maul was struggling and fighting for his life as much as everyone else, against basic inquisitors.
Realistically, Devon’s descent into the dark side would have been fueled by a toxic, messy cocktail of rage directed at both men. She should have been trying to slaughter Vader for the act, and trying to slaughter Maul for starting the fire. The excuse that she is blinded by the dark side is not a good excuse for her to not remember all of the horrible things Maul did to her that led to this. Devon should have zero trust in Maul in any way.
For Devon to just sit down, talk to Maul, and accept him as a guide requires her to completely erase her own lived experiences from the previous weeks. It is bad and lazy writing mixed into one. It turns her from a character with agency, memory, and deep love for her master into a hollow plot device that the plot can just push around wherever it needs her to go.

I'm gonna say it, I do think that even the laziest person imaginable should have a roof over their head, food in their stomach, and access to healthcare
a lot of people are reblogging this saying that most "lazy" people are actually just disabled or that the concept of laziness itself is a product of our society's obsession with productivity. this is all true, but it is not my point.
even if someone WAS just lazy and simply didn't want to do anything but lie on the couch and watch tv, they should still have these things. it's irrelevant whether some people aren't actually lazy because everyone, including hypothetical lazy people, should have their basic needs met.
if we have the resources to do it, there is no defense of letting people die because they don't want to work, and much less because they can't.
I don't want lazy people to have basic necessities because they "actually" deserve them because they ARE working or CAN'T work. I want lazy people to have basic necessities because they are people, and we shouldn't leave them to die when we have the resources not to.
