I want to talk about susie and how she's very conscious of the way people talk to her and the way people around her talk to OTHERS and how. How absolutely delighted I am to see it done in media
I'm specifically talking about the fight with Orange. I'm going to just put up a series of screenshots so we're all in the same place
(Also I'm open to feedback on the alt text if you have any suggestions for things to add pls lmk)
Notice how different Ralsei's reactions are from Susie's? I don't even have the screenshots from the cheesecake meal Green can serve during the fight. Ralsei is fumbling SO fucking hard, and Susie is reallyyyy restraining herself from trying to say something more direct, because that's her friend.
And I feel this is so important because a parallel I almost immediately drew is microagressions. This entire scene felt like how it feels for me when i have a friend who's saying some microagression-type stuff but I'm caught off guard and don't want a confrontation about it. That feeling of uncertainty when trying to communicate you're uncomfortable without SAYING you're uncomfortable, the desperate attempt to change the setting or topic altogether--it's all there. Susie asking Ralsei to just talk normally. Susie suggesting they just beat Orange up, specifically because she'd prefer that to what they're currently trying
I don't want to make any solid theories about Susie's past, because I know people already have those flying around, but what I think this TRULY confirms is that Susie has had people speak to her the way Ralsei was speaking to Orange. She's been treated like she's stupid, especially for having dreams, because people around her assume that those dreams don't suit her. What Susie already knows is that it isn't her place to treat other people's dreams like jokes. She teases Orange too, but it's probably during this fight that she realizes that Orange is serious about what she's doing and Orange's reactions are coming from a place of genuine hurt. Susie sees that. Ralsei doesn't
And I don't mean to Ralsei bash either! Ralsei's suffering from something we all go through--the middle of our awakenings where we've got so much going on in our head that it doesn't occur to us to view things from other people's perspectives as much. It happens. It's part of growing up. And despite Ralsei acting like an older sibling figure, Ralsei truly isn't any more grown than Kris or Susie. The Ralsei dialogue we got during the Orange fight doesn't mean there's a lack of empathy or care, Ralsei just genuinely hasn't considered how those remarks can come across. It's not part of Ralsei's worldview yet.
Susie will change that, though. I'm sure of it. I think this is part of Toby's themes about friendship. We have to learn from each other. We have to check each other but do it lovingly. We have to be willing to keep our eyes open to the things we say and the way they affect the people around us. These things don't cure overnight, they cure bit by bit. chapter by chapter.
Not to mention there's several more instances I could talk about with Susie and being conscious of the way people talk about each other and the how people get underhanded or indirect and how Susie just doesn't fuck with it. I love her so much and she is so traumatized child pilled that it drives me insane. But dw Susie's the goat and Ralsei's the goat so they're going to figure that out one way or another so help me god because otherwise I'll fucking jump

i can see this very easily, in fact i think it might be more likely than ralsei just being a girl only. with ralsei's pronouns switching to they/them in the power menu, and the line "ive been a prince for a while, but i havent been a princess yet! i suppose the only difference is how you present yourself... but, it's fun to try new things, isnt it?", im thinking ralsei being bigender or genderfluid is a big possibility (if whatever ralsei decides to be even has a strict label like that at all). imo any pronouns are on the table right now (but i'll probably stick to she or they, personally).
(also on my mind though, ive known several people in my personal life who experimented with using they/them for a while before fully switching to the other binary gender. from what i understand that's fairly common. some of those people also later decided that they wanted to return to identifying as nonbinary in some respect. it could keep changing through a person's entire life, depending. maybe ralsei still wont have a clear answer by the end of the game)

#I wasn't expecting to enjoy genderfluid ralsei as much as i do by the end of chapter five #specifically because nonbinary headcanons of trans coded characters often feels like people choosing The Safe Option #so they can still be a Little bit of their assigned gender !! so I can still Call them a boy/girl while acknowledging their transness! #and its like well you're not engaging with what that (my!!) identity means for them. you just want to have your cake and eat it too. #but like. i find myself fucking with this. #ralsei still operates under a very Direct storybook worldview. if shes not a prince then Obviously she must be a princess. Ralsei being bigender would mean so much to me personally so this take is slowly becoming part of my worldview for them. Oh my god how epic would it be if that's Ralsei's entire progression--not just subverting the prophecy, but subverting the assumption that there's only one of two ways something can go. And therefore subverting the assumption that there's only one of two genders you can be. If Ralsei canonically would 'put on' either/or, then I think it would mean a lot for them, to not have any singular binary they conform to. Oh god I'm projecting a little maybe but the possibility of bigender transfem ralsei is going to be bouncing around in my head for a LONG time

proship does not mean “I support every ship”. but proship means “I support everybody’s right and freedom to create and enjoy whatever they want, however they want (within the realm of fiction)”.
I don’t have any “sources” with me because it’s a fandom term and not a scientific paper. but I can tell you for a fact that the definition of proship is “do whatever you want as long as you’re not harming anyone in real life, I’ll just mind my own business even if I hate the things you enjoy and find them disgusting. censorship is bad. harassment is bad. I can block what I don’t want to see instead of saying such and such should not exist.” and this was a common sense about a decade ago, before tiktok and puritans try to spread their fascist agenda that allows them to harass others over fiction.
