You spend all that time searching for your lost son after the tragic death of your spouse, only to find out he’s the dictator of a oppressive regime. Either you can join that regime or destroy it–no option to redeem him at all or use the advanced technology in the regime for good.

Like life, no one ever wins everything. War never changes.

and one of the saddest things is that he is an old man who has lived a whole life without you. despite the irony of both of you cheating the natural chronological death clock by being cryogenically preserved, fate made it so that he has so little time left to live, just barely able to meet you.

no matter how much you hate what he’s become, you never, ever had any power at all to change it– you could never protect him, guide him, shape or influence his life in any way, until it was way, way too late. too late to change him, but he did want to see you, to meet you before he died, maybe hopeful that he made you proud somehow.

This work explores erosion and the disruption of form. Focusing on biological erosion, I wanted to convey the idea of a host being attacked and eaten away by a parasitic virus, highlighting the creeping spread of the infection as it corrupts the body. I have produced a series of angular porcelain forms, sandblasted to wear the surface and reveal inner strata. This aggressive process, contrarily, creates a delicate vulnerability in the shape. The translucency of the porcelain and the interruption of the surface make it possible to glimpse through to layers beneath, creating a tension between the seen and the obscured.
