This is right as the Metatron is walking out of the bookshop and Aziraphale has to follow him. Aziraphale keeps trying to tell him he doesn't want to go and making excuses. But look at the anger, that's not directed at Crowley and it's definitely not directed at the situation. It's directed at the Metatron.
After the finale, I realized what this face really meant. “To be, I mean not to be! Come on, Hamlet, buck up!” This is what Aziraphale says when Shakespeare tells him that audience ‘interaction’ can be helpful, but in the modern sense, “I need to go. I mean, I want to go. Come on, Aziraphale, smile and get on with it!”
Grin and bear it.
I'm crying. He deserves to not live with this "grin and bear it" thing anymore.
YESSS. And the fact that they ended it with him doing it AGAIN.
For as long as I live, I will NEVER BELIEVE this is the face of someone who is okay with this bullshitttttttt
EDIT: I’m actually so done with queer media- what do you mean they die every fucking time?
Good Omens S1:
Crowley suggests Aziraphale kill the anti-Christ. Aziraphale looks sick.
“I’ve never actually killed anything before”
Good Omens finale prologue:
Aziraphale bandaging Crowley’s leg
“I’ve spent the war smiting rogue angels…”
Good Omens S2:
Beelzebub recalls Crowley to Hell and brings up extreme sanctions and the Book of Life. Crowley looks concerned but skeptical.
“That was just a fairy tale we told to frighten the cherubs…”
Good Omens finale:
Saraqael talks about the books of life and there’s a suggestion it could have been destroyed. Crowley walks around discussing the book like he’s some complete authority about it.
“No it’s impossible to destroy, it’s too well made”
DID THE FUCKING WRITERS EVEN WATCH SEASONS 1 AND 2 BEFORE WRITING THIS SCRIPT, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!
i don’t hate series finales because it’s the ending of a show.. i hate them because somehow writers find a way to fuck up the whole show in just one episode
COULDN'T AGREE MORE.
Crowley in season 1 had far more imagination than the new writers. Besides, we know Crowley has always been fond of the "funny ones."

So we can all agree that the gang subplot was irrelevant, yes?
Might’ve worked for a show, definitely not for a 90-min special where there are a thousand more important things to discuss.
There were many other ways they could’ve had the Bentley obstructed, or better yet, just not obstructed at all, leave room for other things.
Obviously it wasn’t the gang subplot that led to us not getting that well needed talk, but I do find it to be one of many straws on this camel’s back of a finale, in which each and every straw was the final one that broke it.
I think it was mostly there to give Aziraphale a way to save Crowley (which many people had been hoping for, and I personally rather enjoyed), and also for the "find the lady/rigged game" theme, as well as to have a reason why Jesus took up the monte.
To be fair, once god appeared not a single thing that had happened up to that point was meaningful in any way. I suspect that might have been the idea, except it would've worked in a season, while in single episode it was bound to be a mess and doomed to fail.
For the sake of further establishing the theme, I can understand that- but like we’re both saying, the whole schtick does NOT work for a 90min special. The writers knew how long it was going to be, they had time to come up something that would work for the timeframe, it’s as if no one even told them!
Also kind of a side tangent to all of this, but the whole theme of the “rigged game” I find entirely contradicts the end of season 1. The point of Adam was, despite the system being rigged against him, he chose his own path. The first season was about how humans HAVE free will, and how it ultimately overpowers the occult.
But then here waltzes in contradiction, here to erase the message of the first season so we can have.. what? An unnecessary tragic ending to a comedy? An ending that, I feel, promotes submission, and that fighting for what you love isn’t worth it? Doesn’t matter if they meant it, it’s what we’re left with.
I have so much love to give to creatives, but this just wasn’t it
Been thinking about this post by @rimonoroni2 on the Christian symbolism of the lamb (post here) in relation to the ending of Good Omens 3
GO3 spoilers ahead 🎺
God won. Over Aziraphale, over Crowley, over love, over perseverance, over humanity.
To give context- The original message of Good Omens, as seen by yours truly, was the breaking of molds.
By all rights, Adam should’ve brought on armageddon. Aside from his inherited occult urges, Adam’s young mind was shaped by despair, over a corrupt world, over what awaited him after playtime, what he was left with. The pieces were in place, both external and internal forces pushed the narrative of “restart it all”, he SHOULD’VE fulfilled his given role, but he didn’t. Adam chose to face the world, Adam chose to reject his mold, he chose to be human incarnate, despite all odds stacked against him, he controlled his destiny.
Anthema’s a witch, Newt the descendent of a witch hunter, they should be enemies, but they aren’t.
The same theme follows for Aziraphale and Crowley: an angel who disobeys god, a demon who isn’t entirely evil, and both of them friends, indulging in earthly pleasures, wines, music, chats. It SHOULDN’T have happened, but it DID.
The soul of this story lies in spite of impossibility, to be faced with two paths, and instead of following one or the other, to make a third one. Will overpowers all. (A message that may not translate to other genres, but in a comedy like Good Omens, it’s brilliant and beautiful)
The whole point of their characters was that they weren’t what they were supposed to be. Not in the eyes of God, or of their superiors, they chose defiance over submission!
So to have them stand there, under the eyes of God, and play into her will, to stick to her rules, to have their only semblance of “choice” be the destruction of the universe they loved, along with their own demise, and to pass it off as “nobility”.
THAT right there, the framing of the “Lamb”, to quote: “what's admirable about it is that it doesn't fight back and it doesn't try to defend itself and it's suffering is noble because it just sits there and takes it.” There’s nothing noble there. It’s hopelessness incarnate.
What’s the takeaway? That power always wins in the end? That it’s better to just take it? That there’s no point in fighting for yourself? That- “suffering is godly when you don’t question or try to protect yourself, and survival is ugly.”
I refuse, I denounce such a miserable message, not from the show that brought us so much light, so much laughter and optimism.
What ever happened to them, the optimists we knew?? What happened to the defiant bastards? Where’s that indomitable human spirit we know and love? I don’t believe it, such complete and utter submission, not from our Aziraphale, not from our Crowley.
God wins, submission is the only way, and love is not worth fighting for.
It's been exactly one month. I'll stop tracking here. I'm still here. We're still here. I hope it's made things a little easier for you.
I won't be working on any non-final material (sorry, little Jesus. Fortunately for Mu and Eric, I've already been shipping them), I won't be reading theories and parallels, and I won't be fixing the ending. It doesn't need fixing; it needs to be forgotten and rewritten. It's been hard for me to work on "Six thousand" so far, but I want to get back to this story. I want it to end with an apple tree, a garden at a cottage in the South Downs, and an angel and a demon who will walk side by side for eternity.
Thank you. I've only been able to do this because of you all.
We canNOT be entering the dark ages rn gang
Will shall PERSIST. WE WILL MAKE IT. 🫵🫵🫵🫵
The worst part about Doctor Who being canceled is that we're probably not getting a great last adventure with Carole Ann Ford as Susan Foreman.
There were so many teases for it and now, nothing.
