I guess I'm just curious as to why you saw a post where the given examples of things that make people "uncomfortable" are completely innocuous, like "women with hairy legs" and "having an accent," and went "well surely this is also about sexual harassment"

the biggest irony here being, I guess, that in many settings a woman who has hairy legs and/or an accent (particularly if she is transgender and/or racialized as non-white) will genuinely receive more pressure to modulate her (non) behaviors than someone sexually harassing her

my notifications are once again devolving into a spirited debate about the ethics of actions that could potentially make someone uncomfortable, and at risk of sounding like someone about to get a lot of irate anons I think we're frankly giving way too to much moral weight to hypothetical discomfort

the thing about discomfort is that it's an extremely nebulous category that can be triggered by virtually anything and that's far too broad a category to have any inherent moral quality to it. like. my mom was mad uncomfortable when I stopped shaving. that didn't mean I was doing violence against my mom it just meant she needed to get over herself. many such cases it must be said.

As a published author, I'm straight-up begging y'all to please use your library, please check out books as much as you like, and please request books for purchase if they don't already have them. Unlike pirating, authors do actually get compensated when libraries buy our books, and the more our books get checked out, the longer they'll be kept in the collection and discovered by other readers.
