there's so many things to dislike about the odyssey but tbh reading most critiques feels as braindead as the movie's worst aspects cause why am I reading nolan "de-hottied Circe and made her overly-emotional and reactive and falsely accuse the men of being rape threats" and it has 400 notes

also, my take on the use of "modern" language in the odyssey is that I genuinely have no problem with the idea of simplifying the language of the story to reflect the accessibility of the homeric stories or whatever, but the script was inconsistent enough with its tone (I don't know that much about linguistics but I think I'm trying to refer to the semantics or pragmatics of the language(?)) that the shift between more flowery phrases and telemachus repeatedly talking about his MOM and DAD continuously pulled me out of the story
