to this day possibly one of my best ideas. someone get me a pitch meeting with the hallmark channel
I like this pitch as a concept. But given that it openly defies the vibe of a Hallmark Christmas movie, it can't be a true Hallmark movie. It has to be something else, just wearing the skin if a Hallmark movie. So, not a true romance, not a true comedy. But still a Christmas movie. Not about the holiday itself, but released and takes place then.
Taking this into consideration, it would be a slasher film.
The spirit of the one true saint nick that always sort of happens to be in these Hallmark movies fills the body of a disgruntled mall Santa in the quaint Holliday town. He has been given a divine santa mission. These corporate business lesbians must fall in love with plaid wearing Christmas tree veterinarian charity worker men... Or die.
The women are sent man after man, and with each failed introduction and seduction the men are executed in final destination type ways by the mall santa for failing. Each man, of course, takes the bullet *for* the woman they've been sent after because they're 100% the Hallmark romance man trope. But these men are also being snatched out of their normal lives to do this and so many people blame the women for their deaths.
The main duo survive, of course, by trapping the mall Santa in an old condemned chapel they had Christmas mass in as children and where their church would have its Christmas parties. They burn it down with the possessed Santa inside on Christmas Eve and they awake the next morning to find sooty footprints on their hearth, but the cookies are eaten and a gift is under the tree with a note saying "next year."
Taking this into

State terrorism charges have been dropped against Luigi Mangione. He is still on trial for the lesser charge of 2nd-degree murder.

WONDERFUL to hear on 1,221 days left
reminder: keep up with saying he IS NOT THE UHC SHOOTER, they haven't proven that he is, keep insisting he and the UHC shooter are separate entities.
Important reminder- thank you
I mentioned this to my mother the other day, that i dont think he even did it, and she pulled a "wtf" face and was like "how did you come to that conclusion" so I laid out the various things that don't add up and the glaring procedural fuck ups and the targetted campaign to make everyone think he's guilty.
At one point she goes "ok, but hold on - if he didnt do it then why did he confess?" She was FLOORED when I told her that he hadn't. That he has maintained his innocence since the start.
And this is my mother, who is usually across this kind of thing. She had no idea about the missing bodycam footage that happens to align with the time they took his backpack out of sight before bringing it back and opening it for the """"""first""""" time and finding the supposed evidence inside.
She straight up thought that HE was the one who called himself in. Thought he'd gone to Macca's for a last burger then called the cops on himself and confessed. When she learned that wasnt true, she was SHOCKED.
Keep talking to people about this. Keep reiterating that they havent found him guilty of anything yet, and that they've breached his rights in several different ways since arresting him, and that he and the UHC shooter are almost certainly different people.
Too many people think that he confessed. Too many think that he's guilty, when the odds are good that he VERY MUCH IS NOT.

I queued this like 8 months ago I’ve waited a long time for this moment
September 21, 2020 - Ron Cobb, best known for being the production designer for several major films, has died at 83 years of age. Cobb brought to life several cantina creatures for Star Wars (1977) and came up with weaponry and sets for Conan the Barbarian (1982), the exterior and interior of the Nostromo ship in Alien (1978) and the earth colony complex in Aliens (1986), and the DeLorean time machine in Back to the Future (1985).
More interestingly, to me at least, is that in the 1960s and 70s he was a great radical political cartoonist, and sadly, many cartoons of those days are still just as relevant today. A small selection:
Rest in Peace, Ron Cobb. Find more of his cartoons here: http://roncobb.net/cartoons.html
An investigation into the etymology of “meh” discovered that it may have Yiddish origins, but the first use of “meh” as a word expressing indifference came from a July 9, 1992 Usenet post complaining about Melrose Place. John Swartzwelder was credited with first introducing “meh” into a Simpsons script, and when reached for comment, he claimed he heard it from an advertising writer who said it was the funniest word in the world—in the early ‘70s. No matter its origins, The Simpsons was responsible for making it one of the 20 words that defined the 2000s, according to BBC News online. [x]

I don’t have the flavor of neurodivergency needed to process this question. WTF?
I thought this was a strange question but apparently many of us have Big Feelings about this topic. I feel better.

Documenting the Damage: 100 Harmful Policies from the First 100 Days of Trump's Second Term
The second Trump administration has had the busiest first 100 days of any US presidency in nearly a century. Since January, I've been keeping a spreadsheet documenting 900+ policy changes and political developments. I then bundled many of the most important changes into 100 topics areas and wrote a summary of each of them, providing a semi-comprehensive account of the tremendous changes to US politics which have occurred.

Folks, this is an incredible piece of journalism reflecting a tremendous amount of research, effort, and thought.
It's completely free, brilliantly made, and I am incredulous that it had been so narrowly shared on Tumblr.
I am in awe of what Brett has done here. Please click through and read at least some of this because I think people are really missing out on what an incredible tool this is.
It's a quick reference, it's an archive (it's SO rich in sources and references), it's an explainer, and it is a point-by-point means of de-normalizing the trump administration to anyone in your life who thinks things aren't that bad.
Part of what both trump admins have done, and that the second one has been very, very successful at, is running a shock and awe campaign of things that are so overwhelming and awful that people check out because they can't maintain attention for the continual hammering of information. What Brett has done here is an absurd feat of attention, keeping on top of the tidal wave and breaking it down so that we can see the actions of the administration in plain black and white without the feeling of being pummeled by increasingly panicked news stories.
There are a ton of things to panic about, to take immediate action about, to be outraged about - you shouldn't feel guilty about missing an HHS rule change while you're protesting ICE or having your gender erased - but part of why this document is so impressive is that it DID keep track of those changes and rollbacks that are blips in the news cycle, and it did so pretty much in real time. The fact that it was completed so soon after the first 100 days is staggering, and it's so incredibly useful to have this as a reference NOW instead of as a retrospective five years after the fact.
Really. Seriously. This is so fantastic. Please take a look at it.
It's not comforting, it IS alarming, and it is nonetheless one of the most approachable and motivating in-depth pieces of political journalism I've ever seen.
