ALIENS (1986) dir. James Cameron
ALIENS 1986γ»dir. James Cameron
"shipping and blorbofication are not inherently at odds with understanding a story's deep themes" and "some people can't grasp the themes of a story because they never learned how to engage with stories outside of the lens of shipping and blorbofication" are two statements that can coexist
blorbofication to me is when you love a character in such a laser focus way that you somewhat detach them from the narrative from which they are inserted and treat them in a way roughly similar to how you'd treat an oc for which you still have no story and just like to put them in situations just for fun. which there's nothing wrong with btw, it's just that it can easily lead to people forgetting the character engine in a narrative and not just a barbie doll
as an example of blorbofication taken to the extreme without the acknowledgement of the story context to ground it please refer to the thomas jefferson miku binder

"God? God is love. I don't love you." | "Other angels have made this war because they hate you, you and all humans. God has put you in his grace and pushed them aside. They're desperate. They've never been able to conquer the other loyal angels, and so this war has remained in stalemate for thousands of years. And while this state of affairs endures no soul can meet its god. Your parents, and their parents, and so on from the beginning lie still in wormy earth. Of course, some of them do come to me eventually, for while heaven may be closed I am always open, even on Christmas." "We didn't want to do Nettles because we wanted a strong Daemyra marriage where there isn't cheating involved"
Me when I LIE so what is the actual reason that we couldn't do Nettles hmm? Since there is cheating involved? The fact that it's not Daemon cheating and the fact that it's Rhaenyra and another woman doesn't mean it isn't cheating.
Don't get me wrong, I am ambivalent when it comes to cheating in a setting like ASOIAF where women do not have the same rights as men, it's literally just the fact that the showrunners made a whole big thing about that being the reason they didn't include a Nettles subplot except...clearly that's not the reason.

βI've been awake since the breaking of the first silence. In that time, I have had many names.β
And you coming to me with your questions and personal drama is not going to make me nicer.
You see, when a man and woman love each other very much, and nobody has any concept of "mixed gender friendships", and it's evil to ship them because it isn't yaoi, sometimes they might do something very special called "Becoming Siblings". then they can live happily ever after and talk to each other like they're in a smart speaker commercial.

Inspired by my walking past a home built in 1754 in my new neighborhood, which isn't even the oldest building in the city. As someone born and raised in the Western US (where we do have some very old buildings, contrary to popular belief, just not in the middle of most cities), it made me curious!
When was the oldest extant building you can reasonably walk to from your home built?
20th century
19th century
18th century
17th century
16th century
15th century
14th century
13th century
12th century
11th century
10th century or before
(Use your judgement for definitions of "extant," it doesn't have to be used for its original purpose but my intention is a building that could theoretically still be used, not just the remnants of one.)
