"period/unmedicated birth/breastfeeding representation in fantasy" tropes are kind of like the opposite of "bury your gays" and "fridging" tropes. they can all be executed in a very tasteless, unsubtle, shallow, unnecessary, or meaningless way, or they can be shown in a sensitive and thoughtful way. it really all depends on the writer. but if the former trope is used, people will universally call it feminist genius no matter what, act like it's never been done before, and excuse or justify any other degree of misogyny intrinsic to the story. and if the latter is shown the writer is automatically seen as an unforgivable homophobic misogynist regardless of the context
