An author near and dear to mine and I'm certain, many others' hearts!!! If you're active in the valvert community you've certainly read one of her fics at some point or another, she has blessed us with so much good fluff and heartbreak!! Only three fics don't do our AcademiaNut justice, but these picks encapsulate a spectrum of emotions portrayed in her work 🔥💖💖

Up first: My Heart Is Stone and Still it Trembles

Summary:

A moment post-Seine. Yet he kneels here, this thrice-damned sainted convict, and holds out a hand as if he does not know, as if he knows too much. His eyes are warm as candles and Javert feels he's at the stake.

This is the first entry in an iconic series of post-seine valvert stories!! It's a wonderful hurt/comfort story that presents Valjean and Javert's progression after Javert is saved, and answers the question of just how Javert will go on in a world where everything he thought he knew turned out to be wrong! I, of course, am a huge post-seine lover, and I love a story that presents Javert's guilt and the way he works to atone for it. It is not only Valjean's love that has power, but his beliefs when he extends a helping hand!

Next up: I Will Be There Like Mercy

Javert is not sure he can accept Valjean’s love. Valjean reassures him.

"Is it such a weight?”

Valjean’s voice was a whisper, starlight-soft.

“Is it so difficult to believe you could be loved?”

Javert did not reply. He breathed, the air ragged and raw as it left his lungs, and could not find the words for a reply.

AHHHHH this one was utterly raw and so intimate!! AcademiaNut has an amazing way with writing, beautiful metaphors, and touching dialogue, and you can REALLY see that shine in this fic!! Their dynamic is so complex and full of struggle, but also compassion and concession, so this was an especially moving part in the series!! definitely a great choice to show how the lush writing delivers their growth in a beautiful way!!
