I have seen a few sampler quilts with stars that I really liked online so I knew a star quilt would be in my future. Unrelatedly, I had picked up a copy of The Block Book by Judy Martin but I found it has a ton of star patterns. Then, at a quiltersβ garage sale last month, I saw a $1 scrap bag of yellow fabrics. Thatβs serendipity if Iβve ever seen it, so I decided it was time to start my stars.
The first two were directly from the book. The third one is similar to one in the book but it was a 10.25β block and the others were 12β so I decided to tweak it a bit, resize it, and make it a paper pieced pattern. The process would have been far simpler if I had one of those 45 degree rulers, but with a little trigonometry I made it work.
For the layout I have in mind Iβll need about 16 of the 12β stars and 8 or so 6β stars. Right now, I think I will do all of the small stars in that cathedral window style, but weβll see if I change my mind.

Fiji table set!!!
When we were in Fiji in January we visited a fabric store and bought these really awesome printed cotton rectangles inspired by Tapa cloth designs, with the idea of eventually making placemats out of them. 6 months later I actually did it!
I found this gorgeous leafy batik at a local fabric store back home and it pulled the whole idea together! I hemmed some squares of it for napkins, too.
Quilted up all 6 rectangles and now theyβre table-ready! So fun to do a finish-able, useful project for once!
had the pleasure to meet the tiny person i made this for today

LONE STAR COMPLETE! This square block measures 60 inches (152 cm).
I was originally planning on making this a throw quilt, but now I want to build it out into a larger quilt. Time to think about borders!
Pride Flag Quilt Top
HAPPY PRIDE MONTH EVERYBODY!!! I recently finished this pride flag quilt top, which I'll be displaying at my local pride event next week!
I wanted each block to be different and eye catching in its own way, so that you don't get bored looking at bland stripes. This project is a labor of love. I did the math on piecing nearly every block, save for the house block on the bottom right corner. That came from a book. I went through quite a struggle doing all the math to make the blocks that are split diagonally by color. Those were the ones that took me the longest to get through. The regular solid color rainbow blocks? I flew through those in two days, lol!
I'll share closeups below the cut:
My quilt is coming along, I'm nearly done with construction (all I have to do is put on the border) and then I get to quilt her!!! I'm so excited to see it finished, and it's so crazy to finally see it all in one piece. Like, that's the guy from my drawings!!! It's real!!!
Saturday 6 June 2026 the Big Blue Star Hexie quilt top is finished.
