seriously I love sari silk mixes so so much, something about the texture and colours makes my brain purr so happily XD
TdF day 6
I had started a practice spin for my supported spindle last December, but the rolags I made for it were much too chonky to be comfortable/fun to spin. So yesterday I took what I had off the spindle and spun the rest on the EEW Nano. Since the 100g singles from the previous days are still waiting to be plied, this became my first finished TdF skein today at 36g/100m!
I also started another small spin: ca. 25g natural white and brown Merino combed top, spun from the fold, 3d printed Turkish spindle borrowed from my mom.
Tdf day 6! This is bobbin number 7. I fear I am going to be spinning the yellow fibre for the next sixty years

Having a job is an awesome way to stay hydrated because you get so bored you start drinking water just for a little excitement
we who are buried under orchestration homework
took a break with handspinning.
Clearly, catten is a handspinner! :D
This was practice in spinning fine as I tried different wheel settings, so the yarn itself is very inconsistent, but I had fun.
how do you feel about your hometown
love it/never wanna leave (still live there)

The main part of the quilt top is now quilted. My hand quilting has improved as I have worked on this. There is still room for improvement which is great because I will be moving on to the big blue star hexie quilt. But first I have to figure out how to quilt the borders on this one.
Knitted socks for my dad! The point of this was two-fold: one, socks; and two, using up the bits and bobs of leftover sport weight yarn I had. So of course, I ran out of two colors before I was done and had to improvise. My dad is a computer guy so I told him the one sock was glitching out. I used the Fibonnaci sequence for the width of the stripes and various sport weight superwash merino yarns from Plymouth yarns.

Tour de Fleece Day 4: Dorset Horn
And on to Britain for the Dorset Horn. This is my second time spinning this breed, it was one of the ones I included a previous breed study (because an ounce of fleece was cheap). Some put it in as down like (Smith), while others put it in it's own group (Ekarius and Robson). It was developed from cross breeding Merino and local Welsh sheep, and seems to be the root stock for a number of other breeds, including the very similar/basically undistinguishable Dorset polled (which has no horns).
The staple for this breed varies between 2.5 to 5 inches. This top has a long staple length (5 inches), while the previous fleece I spun had a 3-4 inch staple length. Wool is white, and dyes well. It's a medium fineness, with a strong but irregular crimp. It supposedly doesn't felt much (downlike?).
I actually had plans for the day (morning of catching bugs in a creek with random children and afternoon of kayaking), so tried to spin a bit thicker than normal as Swiss and Columbia fail to score on each other. Defaulted to a short forward draw.
It looks like you can get a carded batt from most of my normal sources, and undyed white top from World of Wool and Woolery. I only found one seller with dyed top on Etsy (Made by Elizabeth).
I like it, and would do a good outer sweater or socks.

I’m a little disappointed, but if the internet has taught me anything, someone is really going to like this.
All that's left of 60 grams of bfl wool that i bought from a ren faire. Once I'm done, i can ply and find out just how much yarn I've got.
I'm still learning, so it's thick and thin and i expect more practice will have more even results but I'm still proud of what I've done.
Btw, the lady i bought the wool from included the sheep names on each bundle. Can we thank Beast for his beautiful brown wool?
You may be tempted to ask, Hey Nick, is your next project a coaster?
And I would have to reply yes, but it’s not going to help.

TFW you're making a spindle whorl and have to open up the second set of burners on the torch. The room is normally lit. The camera just had to compensate for my fucking flamethrower.
Whorl came out cute. Yeah, the originals really were quite small.
First two days of tour de fleece! My only challenge is to actually use my spindles each day, to get back into the groove. Today I finished some long-overdue plying and cleared off a spindle, yesterday I did a bit of my long boring Shetland spin (on the train). Tomorrow I'll start a new spin to alternate with the boring - not sure yet what it will be! Probably fine for a three ply for gloves for a Christmas present, maybe ply-on-the-fly, but that might be pushing it a bit...
