Gelphies are about to make me not like Glinda, and I am so serious. Y’all are literally about to be the new jayviks, ppl are legit already calling y’all that, and that is not good. Obviously it’s not all of you, but it’s too many of you. Cuz why are we purposely misinterpreting Fiyero’s lines in As Long As You’re Mine? Like some of y’all are dumb and hear what you wanna hear. Y’all are literally getting mad at him saying “It’s looking at things a different way” and “Somehow I’ve fallen under your spell” as if the meanings of those lines aren’t as clear as day. Fiyero never saw Elphaba the way that everyone else did. He never wanted her to change herself or anything. He saw, loved, and accepted Elphaba for who she was. All of her. Then y’all act as if the poor woman hasn’t been basically labeled a terrorist in Oz. When ppl hear that Fiyero has run off with Elphaba what do you think they’re going to say? Cuz mind you, he’s a prince. They’re going to assume that Elphaba placed him under some sort of spell and that’s the only way he went with her. He’s making fun of them/teasing in that line. Like please don’t piss me off. Then y’all have the nerve to say “Glinda would never do that” as if Glinda didn’t do that and more to Elphaba throughout the entire story. But because Glinda called Elphie beautiful once she’s somehow better and not at all the shallow person that she is. She’d be a terrible partner for Elphaba before and after act 2. And again: Not making Fiyero a dark skinned man of color and including other parts of the book like his ppl literally being oppressed by the rest of Oz does the story and the character a major disservice when it comes to the musical and movie. Because his ppl are not liked due to the fact that they are different in skin tone, culture, and language. They are very diverse compared to the rest of Oz and they aren’t even called Winkies. They’re called the Vinkus. Winkies in Gregory Maguire’s novel is presented as a slur. Imagine Fiyero seeing Elphaba on an entirely different level because he not only genuinely sees her, but he understands her as well. If they actually portrayed him the way he should be portrayed their connection and understanding of each other would be so much deeper than just romance, which I do love. And then maybe I also wouldn’t have to suffer through the dumb things some of you say about him cuz y’all tend to not like when two POC are shipped together anyways. I would literally be free of y’all.
