i'm not dreaming
written for @steddiemicrofic | prompt: ‘three’ [title from 'past lives' - børns]
rated g | 333 words | no cw | tags: domestic bliss, existential crisis He first says it like a joke, tossed across the living room like it’s nothing more than another stupid Harrington-ism, something to make Eddie snort and call him drama queen.
“Three lives,” Steve mutters, hip-bumping the coffee table straight while sweeping guitar picks and loose change into his palm. “King, babysitter, and whatever the hell this one is.”
This apartment wears them well: laundry in limp mountains on the couch, Eddie’s favourite mug sweating on the windowsill, Dustin’s spare key hanging beside theirs in a crooked row. A grocery list on the fridge, old ink beneath the fresh scrawl where Steve kept changing his mind about who they are now, what they need. Whole milk, low-fat, lactose-free. Life one, life two, life three.
King Steve lived in mirrors, in the sheen of a car hood and the hollow clamour of parties that never felt like fun. Babysitter Steve lived in bat-splintered knuckles and Eddie’s van, in the thud of sneakers racing down cracked-open suburban streets, and in the terrifying knowledge that he loved kids who weren’t his and would kill monsters for them.
This Steve lives here, in the dip of their shared mattress under Eddie’s weight, in the three towels that hang in the bathroom - one for him, one for Eddie, one permanently stolen by Dustin when he crashes. Now-Steve lives in the click of three locks on the door each night, counted off under his breath.
“One, I’m not at my parents’ house,” he says, thumb brushing the deadbolt.
“Two. I’m not in the Upside Down.”
He hesitates on the third, palm pressed flat against wood grain.
Eddie’s voice comes from the bedroom, lazy and sure. “Three, you’re here. With me.”
Steve exhales - it feels like shedding old skin - and turns back toward the soft bedroom glow, scattered guitar magazines, a man waiting for him with his hair tied up and his heart uncluttered.
“Yeah,” he answers, leaving his past lives at the door. “Third life’s the charm.”

Part 2
I’ll never understand why anthropomorphic animal cartoons like Robin Hood and Zootopia will go to the trouble of creating character designs that are meant to be understood as “attractive” or even “sexy” to the human audience but explicitly avoid showing interspecies romances between anthropomorphic animals. Why is THAT weird but, like, trying to make rabbits recognizably sexy-coded to humans isn’t?
Sometimes, sure, but why was Maid Marian a fox in Robin Hood? There wasn’t anything particularly “foxlike” about her personality, and it would make more sense for her to be a lion. They made her a fox only because Robin was a fox and making her something else would be “weird”, but I don’t think the wolf cop or the chicken maid or the lion prince were actually meant to represent race.
The best inter species couple is Kermit and Miss Piggy as the Cratchits in A Muppet Christmas Carol, because all their sons are frogs and all their daughters are pigs, as God clearly intended.
there are only two genders: frog and pig
I’ve pointed out to my friends that the fact that Kermit and Miss Piggy’s kids are like that means either
1) they reproduce asexually and the children are clones of each parent OR
2) Kermit and Miss Piggy are members of the same sexually dimorphic species, hence the split between their male and female children
yes I have spent too long running about potential muppet biology
oh god
Third option, when they want kids they get some fabric and make one, and hope a Hand inhabits it
Do you think there’s a ritual for inviting An Inhabiting Hand to possess the empty husk of your muppet baby?
Just wanted to show u guys that in Muppets Most Wanted, Piggy fantasizes about her and Kermit having babies and this is what they look like
So do with that what you will
Recall that in The Great Muppet Caper, Kermit and Fozzie are brothers. And this was their dad (right):
Thank you for specifying, which one of the two individuals in the picture was the dad haha
I, for one, think Shrek handled interspecies coupling the best. By this I am of course talking about the Dronkeys.
In season 3 of BoJack Horseman, we learn Diane (middle) has been impregnated by Mr. Peanutbutter (left). The fetuses are confirmed to be puppies.
This is the worst addition to this post
I am reminded of Treasure Planet.
In which Captain Amelia (left), an extra terrestrial anthropomorphic cat, had hybrid babies with Doctor Doppler (middle), an extra terrestrial anthropomorphic dog, whom also gave birth to the babies
I always thought that in muppet movies like muppet Christmas Carol the characters are played by the muppets (so kermit is acting and playing the role of Bob rather than being him) so the kids in that film would just be other acting muppets right?
Or is that just something my brain made up?

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
anyone in this thread smoke weed
In Leo the Lion (2005) a lion and elephant have the most cursed hybrid children and I think yall should see them
(also Matt Mercer voices the villain, Maximus Elefante and I think that’s very important)
I think that what they are talking about is perfectly clear.

Hail Mary, full of Grace
i want to say that if you are a baby fanfiction writer or a baby writer and you come across one of those long posts whining about "ao3 writing style" and "cliché symbolism" you really don't have to take it seriously. you should open the document and have fun anyway, and by doing so you will be light years ahead of the sad little people on here who spit out incredibly condescending criticisms under the guise of "encouraging people to hone their craft". write the cliché thing! practice! experiment! learn what you like, what you don't like! be self-indulgent! if you're writing fanfiction, then you belong to a community, and community means being influenced and informed by one another. fandom doesn't and cannot happen in a vacuum. and if you're trying your hand at professional writing, then whatever you need to work on is between you and your editor/agent, not between you and a tumblr user who never developed a personality outside their English Literature degree. (and if english isn't your first language then this post is 10x more true for you. the anglosphere isn't self-aware, and you are accommodating enough as it is) kissing you mwah
Guards! Put the blond man in spandex in situations!
Ahah you thought it was gonna be a silly introduction? Well me and @sam-i-am-27 have been coocking some more loree. (PREV)
So this is BRILLIANT
Steve used to hate being called pretty.
His mother said it in the tone of a woman who'd wished she'd had a daughter to dress in frilly, lacy things.
His father said it with disdain, an insult. Dsgust that he was the father of a 'pretty boy'.
Steve tried to be manly and handsome, to accentuate those things instead of what people commonly commented about his as being 'pretty'. He hid and he hid and he hid.
Until Eddie.
Eddie barreled into his life, loud and brash and being exactly who he was. No hiding.
And Eddie saw through the carefully cultivated mask Steve'd created and had gently coaxed it away. With gentle hugs and soft words. With sweet kisses and assurances that Steve was perfect as he was.
Until Steve finally felt pretty again.

Ready for the heatwave 🕶️☀️
(First of the three summer-Steddie pieces I’m currently working on 😈)
Felt like doing something picture book like.
me and my mutuals reblogging tumblr posts
Pre serum steve dressing up pretty for his fella.
Thank you @stucky-forlife for the idea of putting Steve in the showgirl outfit!!
I decided to draw this instead of dinner, time well spent.
IMAGE THIS ART IS BASED ON DOWN BELOW!!!
i imagine post-catws bucky is super averse to touching steve with his metal arm, afraid of tainting him with the weapon that took so many lives. eventually steve can't stand it any longer and presses his cold palm to his chest, saying, "you're not gonna hurt me."
