One would think it obvious to say that there is a significant difference between calling attention to the more or less subtle misogyny in someone’s posts or in the way they treat other users VS accusing someone of misogyny based on how they write their fanfiction, but judging by the sheer number of posts I come across on the subject, it clearly isn’t.
"Signs of misogyny in fandom: killing a female character off in a fic".
We're just saying whatever at this point.
And I've never even been on the receiving end of accusations like that myself, I could easily just not care. But I've seen it happen countless times to young, impressionable users who were clearly acting in good faith. They get accused of whatever flavour of moral crime because they've never read yuri, only yaoi; or because they say they hadn't noticed the queer coding of this or that character until someone else pointed it out; or because they didn't fully capture the psychological depth of this or that female character in their fic (they're fifteen and it's the first time they've ever written anything).
How is it possible that you've turned a space meant for fans into such an unwelcoming place, so full of pettiness and arrogance?
