if you didn't listen to welcome to night vale at fourteen you can never truly understand the damage hearing cecil gershwin palmer say "he grinned, and everything about him was perfect, and i fell in love instantly" about carlos in the VERY FIRST EPISODE can do to the human psyche

Rolling hills. A fear submitted by Foxe to Deep Dark Fears - thanks!

fun fact about this painting, the subject is a disabled woman named Anna Christina Olson who could not walk with her legs. she liked to get around the Olson family property by crawling, and did so quite a lot - it was her preferred mode of travel actually, since she hated using a chair. She is not helpless in this painting, and the field was part of her home - a place she would go regularly, not an insurmountable obstacle. the mortifying ordeal of being known is part and parcel of the comfort of love and that's not at all something to fear or revile. that's part of your home.

Add “distress” to your pain scale
Pain scale? More like pain in the booty. No two people seem to read it the same way, and chronic folks tend to downplay their pain.
So here’s an idea: when asked to rate your pain, provide a number to rate your distress levels in addition to your pain levels.
Some examples:
“I’m at a 5 on the pain scale, but my distress is basically a 1 because this is my usual.”
“I’m at a 3 on the pain scale, but my distress is a 7 because this is new pain and affects a part of my body that’s very important to my work.”
It’s a great way to consider how your pain is impacting you—and to get a doctor’s attention where it’s actually needed.

what about old gay hate

this is not a helpful translation, google.
oh
Now this is a Russian culture lesson
yknow if romeo had just Cried on juliets corpse for a couple hours instead of drinking poison Right Then they would have been Fine
The moral of the story is: always take time to cry for a few hours before making important decisions.
So I’m more or less being facetious here, but this is actually a thing.
Hamlet is genre savvy. Hamlet knows how Tragedies work, and he’s not going to rush in and get stabby without making absolutely certain he’s got all the facts.
Except once he thinks he has all the facts – once he’s certain that it really is the ghost of his father and Claudius really did kill him, he rushes in and stabs the wrong guy, which starts a domino line of deaths and gets Laertes embroiled in his own revenge tragedy and ultimately results in the deaths of nearly every character other than Horatio.
That’s the irony and the tragedy of the story. Hamlet knows his tropes and actively tries to avoid them, and the tropes get him anyway. It’s inevitable, the tropes are hungry.
I want a sticker that says the tropes are hungry so I can put it on my laptop
i met a scholar once who said that tragedies aren’t about a silly “flaw” or anything, it’s about having a hero who’s just in the wrong goddamn story
if hamlet swapped places with othello he wouldn’t be duped by any of iago’s shit, he’d sit down & have a good think & actually examine the facts before taking action. meanwhile in denmark, othello would have killed claudius before act 2 could even start. but instead nope, they’re both in situations where their greatest strengths are totally useless and now we’ve got all these bodies to bury.
The tropes are hungry and the hero is in the wrong goddamn story.
I love this post.

I believe the artist is Katy Doughty.
Here’s a link to Katy’s tumblr!
This is half an MFA right here.
The tropes are always hungry and the tragic hero is just somebody trapped in the wrong damn story.
“The tropes are always hungry and the hero is trapped in the wrong story.” is a phrase I want made into a gorgeously designed giant poster I can hang on the wall.

just found out they deleted middle english wikipedia, rip to middle english wikipedia and its entry for frogs specifically, how could they do this to me 😭 luckily I am exceedingly not normal about frogs and have the whole text of the article saved on my phone:

Hit biþ ofte tyme broune or grene or yelowe; or be hit tropyckal, hit may haue dyuers coloures lyk reed, blewe, and blak and liue in trees. Hit haþ longys and guilles boþe. I object to the diminishment of this opossum’s OBVIOUS theatrical skill and training
"oh please everyone has gay thoughts sometimes" so what i'm hearing is that heteronormativity is so ingrained that a significant percentage of the population regularly experiences bisexual attraction? but dismisses it as something that all straight people experience? this is so concerning are you guys okay
"lol women/men are so hot it's a shame i'm straight" buddy i've got news for ya
why is this written like it's trying to hypnotize me into making a batch of caramelized onions, and more importantly, why is it working
