I just revived my old iPod touch that I haven’t used since ~2013 after believing it to be dead dead for years and oh my god it’s like opening up an old time capsule. There are photos of me and my friends that I haven’t seen in years, taken in an old high school building that doesn’t exist anymore. I have games that are no longer downloadable on the app store. It’s running iOS 5 with the original skeuomorphism app icons. I still have the youtube app. My contacts app is full of maiden names and deadnames. The music app has songs I haven’t heard in almost a decade but still remember all the lyrics to. A daily alarm set for 5:30 AM (god I can’t believe I had to wake up that early in high school) and another set to 11:11 PM to remind me to make a wish. Reminders to finish homework assignments, or to write my application essay for the university I ended up attending, and one marking the release date for the final episode of Cabin Pressure. The last thing I googled was “how to draw people hugging”.
Possibly the strangest thing is that the tumblr app still opens, but it’s stuck in a permanent snapshot of 2013 where it won’t show me any new posts no matter how many times I refresh. My dash is full of old BBC Sherlock posts from long-lost mutuals who have either since deactivated or got unfollowed or changed urls so many times that I don’t even recognize them. Lady Gaga and Game of Thrones are the top trends. My profile shows my previous url and icon, with only 43 followers. I feel like a time traveler
Can you tell me why you have been so sad?
An interesting way of mapping privilege dynamics in a group is keeping track of what happens when two people start speaking at the same time. Not necessarily in the sense of "which of the speakers gives way to the other" (because this can be confounded by autism affecting people's responses to social cues, and also by people making a deliberate attempt to *not* give way as a reaction to their own marginalisation) but in the sense of "which of the speakers draws the attention of the group, and which is ignored".
I think many marginalised people have had the experience of starting to say something, and then seeing everyone's heads turn away to listen to someone "more important". And even if you refuse to give way, and you manage to make the "more important" person back down, you'll notice that when you stop speaking no one will respond to you, but everyone will immediately turn back to that "more important" person as if to say "Sorry, you were saying?"
And, of course, the specific social dynamics of the group will affect these things, like friendship, enmity, sexual and romantic attraction, or if one person is specifically sucking-up to another for some purpose like securing a job offer. But if you pay attention to this over several groups over a long time, you will pick up on patterns that repeat and repeat and repeat.
For example, normally if a man and a woman start talking at the same time, the man will draw the group's attention. And on those occasions where he doesn't, it's generally because there is some other marginalisation involved: race, class, disability, immigration status, sexuality...
But sometimes you will see a situation like this where a man is treated much worse than he "ought" to be, taking all these things into account, and you'll think "Huh, that's weird, what's going on there?". And then a decade later you'll meet that person again and she's a woman now.
I've never liked the "born in the wrong body" framing of transness, because 1. it feels like it assumes a level of sexual dimorphism in brain structure far stronger than we have any evidence for, and 2. the word "wrong" has a kind-of moral component to it that I don't much like. But I think I've realised that there is a way that it actually makes total sense.
Even if brains aren't particularly structurally dimorphic, they are still implicitly gendered by society. Your mannerisms, interests, tone-of-voice, gait, your whole personality in fact is gendered whether you like it or not. And the sense in which it can be "wrong" is that society can see what it considers a mismatch between your sex-at-birth and how it genders your personality.
E.g. a "boy" can be gentle and softly-spoken, not necessarily because of "his" brain structure being "female-typical", but for any number of potential reasons, and whatever the reason, society will gender "his" personality as female (albeit it will not always use the word "female", but more likely a different f-word to describe it). And then this mismatch between this and "his" birth sex creates a moral problem: it's wrong because society says people with bodies like that should not have personalities like this. And society's response to this moral problem is transmisogyny.
Trans women are often accused by transmisogynists of having archaic views on gender, but the idea that gentleness, meekness etc are "female personality traits" is not a claim made by trans women, but merely a description of a belief genuinely held by almost all of society, and that belief is one of many sources of our oppression. You (society) are the ones telling me I have a female brain, and you are the ones telling me that's wrong.
I could have exactly the same brain, the same personality, and if I'd been born with a different birth sex my life would've been so much easier. In that sense I was born in the wrong body. The body that I was born into has made everyone treat me as "wrong" my whole life, my body is wrong because everyone acts like it is.
Society's preferred response is for me to change my brain, my personality, to become the man I was always supposed to be. Next best is to do nothing, just carry on being the softly-spoken "boy" who keeps "his" head down and does what "he" is told. What society really doesn't want is for me to do the opposite, to change my body, to lean even harder into the womanhood for which I have been denigrated for so long. To say "Yes, I am a woman, I am claiming for myself the gender you have been applying to me all along."
To do this is to take the body that was "wrong" and do something even "wronger" with it. To maintain what society wants me to change, and to change what society wants me to maintain. My womanhood is a response to their misogyny, to take the part of me they tried to crush and fully embody it.

Found the source of the infographic that explains how the results were obtained!
there’s sixteen Colorado counties that their most searched was “wolf furry”, plus thirty-odd counties (not counting either Arapahoe or any of the ones marked here as “Insufficient Data”) which may well have had plenty of searches for “wolf furry”, just fewer than for whatever they’re labeled here
and “skunk furry” searches in Arapahoe County outnumbered “wolf furry” searches in the entire state of Colorado
something tells me Skunks Georg
we did it, we created furry gerrymandering
pride month is almost over I would just like to say happy pride to boring LGBTQ people in particular. everyone expects us to be brilliant creatives and scientists and interior decorators and quirky professors and tortured artists but some of us wear nothing but Kirkland Signature clothing and watch Friends and The Office and are incapable of having an interesting conversation and that is okay. our diversity is our strength.
talking to a very boring LGBTQ person once in a while is so refreshing, you’re like “Whoa! You’re so average and normal! You’re like a coworker at an office job! The only thing we have in common is our LGBTQ identity and that is beautiful!”
“They tell us we’re born to suffer but you were obviously born to maintain the lawn outside of your suburban home. Very sweet.”
let’s talk about how they made it impossible to function without a phone and digitalised everything and then turned around and went “actually! these phone things aren’t safe for kids but it’s magically ok once you’re eighteen. guess you’ll have to have your life dictated by your parents now lol cause we’re gonna take the devices away from you. IT’S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING”
ok my apologies. take away my ability to buy anything too ig because these fuckass stores don’t accept cash anymore. take away my ability to communicate with people outside my house and school because I can’t text and I can’t email and I cant drive to them either and I can’t even fucking get public transport without a phone either. can’t order at a fucking restaurant without being asked to get a membership and install an app and also very sorry but you can only order through our online menu now! have you ever considered that it’s not just about instagram?
i think it’s really essential as an adult to stay silly and goofy and weird

Ansco Pix Panorama - 35mm camera review + photos
Okay so I thrifted this for $3. I love to pick up any film camera I see at thrift stores that's dirt cheep like that. If I buy it and it doesn't work and I can't repair it, oh well. I just like weird cameras no matter what.
The weird thing with this is that it isn't a "true" panoramic - it's a faux-panoramic camera. It uses a mask on the inside to achieve the effect of a panoramic photo. I have left the borders on my images instead of cropping them down so you can see just how they look with the borders left intact.
Anyway I was actually a little surprised with how nice these came out. I brought it with me on a short hike outside of Boulder, CO at Bald Mountain. Overall, it's really not a terrible camera if you want something cheap, lightweight, and don't mind some heavier grain/softer details. I'll definitely come back to this for days like these.
