i love you black mj fanfic writers
I will never stop talking about this or reminding all the amazing Black writers in this fandom just how talented, creative, and appreciated you are. 🫶🏾
Please keep doing what you're doing. Your stories matter, your voices matter, and this fandom is better because you're here.
Note: I discover new writers in this fandom all the time, so I know I definitely haven't found every amazing Black writer out there yet. If you didn't get tagged, this absolutely applies to you too.
And if you know a Black writer I missed, tag them! I'd love to check out their work and give them some love.
Lastly, to any Black writer who's been doubting whether they should write that story or post that fic: do it. Someone out there is waiting for a story that only you can tell.

why do you write for black readers only if you still get hate? wouldn't it be easier to just write for everybody or make everybody feel included
No.
It probably would be easier, but that's not why I started writing in the first place.
I started writing Black reader fanfiction because I wanted to see myself in the stories I was reading. Growing up and even now, a lot of fanfiction felt like it was written with a white reader in mind, whether that was intentional or not. I wanted to create a space where Black women could open a fic and immediately feel like, "Oh, this was written with me in mind."
The hate doesn't change that.
For a long time, fanfiction has centered white experiences. White writers can write exactly how they want to write. They can describe blushing, someone's face turning red, gripping something until their knuckles turn white, running fingers through straight hair, or any number of experiences that are specific to the characters they're writing, and nobody expects them to stop and make sure every single reader can relate.
But when Black writers do the same thing, we're suddenly expected to make our stories "inclusive for everyone." We're expected to write in a way where anybody can insert themselves into the story, even though that same expectation has rarely been placed on anyone else.
That's the double standard I don't agree with.
Representation isn't about excluding other people. It's about creating something for a community that has historically had to search a lot harder to find itself in fanfiction. White readers already have countless stories where they can see themselves. Black readers deserve spaces where they don't have to imagine themselves into the story because they're already there.
So no, I don't plan on stopping. I'll keep writing the stories I wish I'd had to read, and hopefully they'll make another Black girl feel seen the way I wanted to feel seen.
Also, my stories are still public. I'm not stopping anybody from reading them. I
've had readers tell me they're Latino, Asian, and from all kinds of different backgrounds, and they still enjoy my stories because a good story is a good story. I write with a Black reader in mind, but if someone who isn't Black chooses to read it and enjoys it, that's completely fine.
If seeing a Black reader makes someone uncomfortable, I think that's something worth reflecting on. My story existing isn't the problem.
Black stories deserve to exist without constantly having to justify why they exist. I don't think Black writers should have to explain why we write Black readers any more than anyone else has to explain who they write for.
It's also about authenticity. I write from my own perspective and experiences, so naturally that's going to show up in my stories. I'd rather write something that feels genuine than try to water it down so it fits everyone. The specificity is part of what makes the stories feel real to me.
Seeing other Black writers made a huge difference for me. It showed me that there was space for stories like mine and encouraged me to start posting my own work. I hope my blog does the same thing for another Black writer who's thinking about sharing theirs.
At the end of the day, readers have choices. Fanfiction is huge. There are thousands of incredible writers out there, all writing different kinds of stories. Nobody has to read mine if they don't want to, and that's okay. I don't expect every story to be written for me either.
And honestly, I write for myself first. I write the stories I wish I'd had when I first started reading fanfiction. The fact that other people connect with them is something I'm incredibly grateful for, but the reason I started writing was because I wanted to create the representation I was looking for.
Lastly, I just want to show some love to other Black writers in the community. I'm going to tag a few of my favorites below. If you're reblogging this, feel free to tag some of your favorite Black writers too. I'd love for more people to discover them and support their work.

sending so much love to everyone who feels like they’re never chosen as the best friend, as the partner, as the favorite. sending love to all of you who have been treated and felt like second best. sending love to all of you who have felt rejected and unwanted. to all of you who have had to try really hard to fit in because you felt like you never will.
you are so loved. you will be seen and heard by the right people. you can trust that you are valuable and not defined by other people’s perceptions of you. if someone doesn’t see your worth, it doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
