Authors have always written about things that they don't agree with morally, and I hope to god they always will, despite how shitty people treat them for doing that now.

With the release of the new Wuthering Heights movie, I'm going to add my dark fiction thoughts pertaining specifically to dark romance:
I don't like Wuthering Heights because it romanticized abuse. I think it is still a very important book and should not be banned. I don't like anything that Colleen Hoover writes about anything because it's not even dark romance, it's just awfully written domestic violence with (I've heard) racism added.
I'm not saying Wuthering Heights is well written either. That's my opinion on it.
However, I'm also not saying Colleen Hoover should be stopped from writing.
Both are options for dark romance. Both options can be out classed by better novels. Both options have a right to exist. We can criticize each for their shortcomings. What we cannot do is call for the censorship of dark romance books because they make a few people uncomfortable. If it makes you uncomfortable then don't read it, it's not meant for you. I despise bridgerton (not dark romance but I have a point I promise) because it's poorly written shut and I've found more magical romances on AO3 and Webtoon. I hate that Daphne practically rapes her husband all because she wants a baby and he has told her multiple times that he does not want a baby because of his trauma. (He didn't tell her it was bc of childhood trauma at first but she should've listened and they could've communicated) I hate that the author dismisses what Daphne did to her husband. I do not think bridgerton should be pulled from shelves, however if you ask my opinion I will give it. At the end of the day bridgerton is just not for me.
And that's fine. Many dark romance novels are not for me. That does not mean that dark romance should cease to exist. People seem to forget that they do not have to consume media they don't like.
Was watching the new assumptions video on Pressalike and it did remind me of the fact that the american pledge of allegiance was a post civil war implement. I'm not talking like immediately after the South was defeated in 1865, it was implemented in 1942. It's extremely recent in the grand scheme of US history. I guess we could say "post WW1" but American intervention in the first World War is not really taught in US schools because WW2 was when we were staying out of it before being directly attacked in 1941. It is because of the Japanese attack on December 7th, 1941 that we have the pledge of allegiance in the US. I'd argue that the pledge is possibly racist instead but that would require a lot more research to factually confirm it. (Cause America started to imprison Asian Americans and Asian passing Latinos in Internment Camps but not Italian Americans whose home country sided with the axis powers . Then the pledge of allegiance became a morning requirement in america.)
Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about any of this, WW2 is my tism but with an emphasis on Europe and Asia and less on American domestic policy and actions taken at home during the war effort.
