It’s about doing the things you love to do even if you aren’t good at them and not doing the things you’re great at “gifted” even simply because they don’t make you happy or fufill you.

Reigen really looked Mob, the quintessential gifted child, in the face and told him “you don’t have to do something just because you’re good at it, your powers aren’t who you are” and the body improvement club tells him “why give up just because your bad at it? You’re having fun aren’t you?”

Good point. We should jerk off and *throws dart* eat some pork bao. Or if you're vegetarian we could *spins comically sized wheel* eat some samosas. What's truly important is we have to jerk off. Together.

and then. and then you get to the television arc. and you see the flashback where reigen is sitting in his office, depressed and vaguely disgusted with himself and drifting aimlessly amid the dregs of society - and mob shows up, afraid of his own self and so terribly young. and reigen gives him this sort of canned speech - but it’s a good one, one with a good moral center and a galvanizing energy far removed from the cynical, lackluster man who just put out a cigarette and thought of dissolving his company simply because he was bored. and then you realize - mob saved reigen too. 

Maybe not at that exact moment. But little by little, the responsibility of giving mob a moral compass - no matter how much of it is lip service - drags the best side of reigen into the light. His flaws are obvious and his circumstances feed into them - his profession naturally rewards the part of him that excels at lying, scamming, melodrama and selfishness. But through mob we see a different reigen. one who wants to be better. one who has genuinely good advice to give. one who above all takes his responsibility as an adult to protect and nurture a child exactly as seriously as he should, and absolutely steps up to the plate when it really counts.
