My British flatmate is the same as Caitlyn and puts dishes on the drying rack when they’re still completely covered in suds, and after all of that soap, there’s still usually food residue still on the plates (which he probs missed because all those soap suds were covering it). It honestly drives me insane but I don’t know how to tell him, because unlike Vi, we aren’t dating and aren’t like that with each other at all. (For context also, I’m not British but we both live in the UK) Any advice on what’s a good way of bringing it up without putting him down??

I've been in this exact situation before! With something like this, my advice would be to approach it lightly and casually. Off the top of my head, if you're both in the kitchen while he's washing the dishes, try and bring it up casually and cheerfully. Something like "hey, can you do me a favour? When you wash the dishes, can you give them a good scrub and then rinse the suds completely off? Sometimes I've been having to re-wash them before I use them so that would be super helpful!"

You could also text this message to him (or something like it, doesn't have to be that specific wording or anything) instead of having the conversation in person, BUT if you can, I'd recommend having it in person - often it can come across as more serious and argumentative across text than in person. But if he's the type of guy to respond better over text, this could be an option.

Also, depending on how reasonable this guy is (and he might not be! A lot of people are irrational and also terrible roommates but maybe this guy is a nice guy), this conversation might be totally fine. He could just respond with "oh, sure, no problem", and change his behaviour.

And if he doesn't? Well, maybe you can move next year lol. Disagreements over the dishes is the #1 most common reason that roommate situations break down!!!
