i'd say it's a slip of the tongue, but it goes far deeper than that.
it'll slip out when his instincts are riding him hard. it's not something he's constantly calling her, but also he isn't particularly bothered when it does come up. omega might as well by synonymous for mate. if the reader ever confronted him about it, he'd probably just stare at her until she got uncomfortable enough and dropped it lmao.
i don't think he'd care if his packmates caught him doing it either – and in all fairness, they'd kinda blink at him and then roll with it. they give each other shit about a lot of stuff, their mate is one of the few things entirely off limits.

I have a beta-verse lore question. It seems like most places are very strict about alphas getting to keep people they have claimed. But what if the alpha had lost control in like highschool and bit a beta?
Would the beta’s parents in that have the right to step in and take the beta away from the alpha in that case? Since they have legal guardianship.
Cause man that would be a rollercoaster. Going through the scariness of getting bitten, then having to go through the bond sickness and possibly your family having to move to get away, and then possibly ending up getting tracked down by that alpha years later when you thought you were safe.

So alphas don’t tend to hit their ‘maturity’ until 18-21. That doesn’t mean a breakout rut while they’re still in high school is impossible, but there are usually warning signs before the first – Aran in lts wasn’t at full rut during the locker room scene, but he was sure as shit heading there.
Even in a rut, an alpha isn’t going to lunge, open mouthed, teeth primed at the first attractive looking/smelling person who passes by. Their instincts are hardwired to associate a bite with a lifetime bond, whether or not that’s actually the case (as with our beta readers). In all in, ushijima’s rut was a snap reaction he had no control over. The bite was absolutely something he did.
They are still a risk to omegas – they can do plenty of damage without biting. They’re also much more territorial and aggressive during a rut, making them a threat to betas and other alphas as well. So generally speaking, if anyone so much as suspects a hs student’s on the verge, they’re sent home, or isolated as quickly as possible if that’s not an option.
But for the sake of the ask, let’s assume the rut came without warning and no one could intervene before a beta was bitten. It’s seen as a cruelty to put the beta through bond sickness by separating them entirely. It would be out of the question to essentially ‘give’ the beta to their alpha to take home (unless both were adamant that they wanted this ig??). As long as the parents on either side didn’t have any strong objections, they would most likely try and mitigate the side effects by allowing a close proximity during classes etc. where they would be monitored until the bond faded. The beta would still likely feel some effects, as proximity alone wouldn’t be enough to fully satisfy the bond, but it’s better than the alternative.
All of this would be under the assumption that – in spite of everything I just said above – the bite was a mistake.

Hey Rhi 😊 kinda random but I thought it might be fun to share. I had a Beta-Verse dream last night where a Beta was able to successfully escape from their Alpha and get to a shelter where they were able to rebuild their lives by getting a job, making friends, saving up for a place of their own. Only the shelter is meant to give a fresh start for those in other Beta relationships. It didn't get involved with mate claims so when the Alpha turns up and the Beta still has a mark (albeit almost completely healed) then the shelter makes her leave and the Alpha was all smug and condescending as he manhandles her away eager to renew their mark since he hated that he couldn't feel her anymore.
I'm just thinking of which Alphas in the Haikyuu universe might be like that; Atsumu and Osamu because were my first thought because Osamu could search while Atsumu funds the search. Oikawa would be another one, like magazine and news headlines would broadcast how the Olympic setter from Argentina was taking a break to search for his missing mate where the Beta would be forced to see it and everyone would know who he was when he came to collect followed by the usual 'he's so sweet! Why would you leave him?'. Another one was alpha policeman!Diachi who used his connections and popped up with a fake warrant or something.
(The Alpha in my dream was actually Sasuke Uchiha, but replace his obsession with revenge to obsession with his beta, and it got fun lmao)
i mean in general that's not too far off. i've mentioned before that in argentina, that's quite literally the law. 'harbouring' an alpha's mate is illegal, there isn't a grey area. in japan, it isn't quite as bad, but the prevailing attitude is mates are mates, and betas don't get involved in alphas' business.
while i don't necessarily think any of the alphas would go public in a scenario where the reader did somehow manage to slip away, finding a sympathetic ear, let alone a safe place to ride out the bond sickness, would not be an easy task.

If it is okay to ask about old content I am a little curious, do you think the Miya twins would of been less antagonistic if they shared their soul mate with someone else instead of each other?
Like if Atsumu ended up with Sakusa as the person he was sharing with or Osamu ended up sharing with Suna.

yes and no.
part of their antagonism towards the reader stems from the fact they met very young, panicked, made a bad impression and rather than trying to apologise and start afresh, they doubled down repeatedly.
however, they are at their core, assholes. if they met years later or under better circumstances, it would still not be a fairytale romance. it might have a better start, and the 'bullying' aspect not as prominent, but somewhere along the line things would unravel and the reader would end up wanting out.
it more comes down to how much the other person is willing to enable their shitty behaviour. neither suna nor sakusa are going to be of any help in that department. aran or kita might temper both of them to a degree, and hinata, beyond some minor complaining, would pretty much take it in stride and make up for it by being extra clingy annoying needy loving <33
anyone outside of that would probably be glad to give them enough rope to hang themselves with so they'd be the 'favourite' by default.
