i really love the motif of windows in Backrooms. maryās book being called āthe window withinā. the curtains in her office always being drawn. the shot of her behind glass in her own home during the gathering at her house. clark looking through the window into his own house. him being unable to see kat through the glass she can see him through. the window in maryās motherās house. the windows in the hospital her mother is brought to that only look out to another building. the drawing that mary finds of captain clark reaching someone up towards a window. the fale window in clarkās āhomeā in the backrooms that just looks out to more of the same empty space. the window in the interrogation room thatās too high to see out of (and thus to determine if itās real). the fact that the backrooms lacks any windows to a true āoutside spaceā, and how terrifying that makes it. there is no window within. or, at least, not one that any of them can find
Was really interested going into this movie because as someone who isnāt very up to speed on any backrooms lore besides the og post I like the backrooms best when there are no monsters, but the environment itself makes you feel unsafe. Youāre paranoid and panicking but then you get out and realize that there was nothing to be afraid of, nothing was even there to chase you in the first place it was just your mind tricking itself.
So I think itās so interesting that this movie did both- there is a monster but itās You. Itās a monster you made up itās a physical manifestation of your fear. It hurts people because you hurt people. Youāre unsafe because you created the environment and that means your fear is out to get you.
I really did like the ending of the Backrooms 2026, actually. The twist that the Backrooms is a space that you can physically exit but a part of you mentally will always be trapped in is a great subversion and really effectively inverts the concept. The main scientist character looks directly into the camera and reveals he is still caught in the same nostalgia trap that Clark was, stuck in a repetitive motion and going nowhere. Mary got out but she's still in there. You can leave but you can never escape
For a little I felt like we missed Clarkās spiral and thatās why the change felt so sudden but in the same scene that Clark shows this āsuddenā violent part of himself he says āI donāt want to changeā.
Clark has always been like this. We saw his extreme anger at the start of the movie. His disregard for those around him with how he speaks to and about them. The implied breaking of the glass was that he threw it, not knocked it over.
I was expecting a spiral but he didnāt need one. He was already there.

Clark saying the creatures don't feel anything and then later in the same scene the woman anomaly is seen attempting to run away from the pirate, seemingly in fear. Something something devaluation of life seen as different than him.
reading reviews and tags of backrooms (2026) makes me so fucking angry omfg. did the message go over everyoneās head????? cycles of abuse????? the immorality of the psychiatric and medical systems???? the horrors of being a woman in patriarchal society???? the horrors of being an abuse victim trying to navigate the world?????? the consequences of trying to āfix peopleā, especially men as a woman, and especially abusers as a survivor????? how trying to fix the abusive system you live under using the tools of that same system doesnāt work??????? how destructive enabling abusive behaviour, even as part of healing to āfixā an abuser, can be????? is anyone listening or do you only care about the random white man!???!?!!!?????
literally addicted to walking around with a dying phone like 8% battery no portable charger no outlets nearby and no plans of going home anytime soon either
Don't ask me where I'm going with this, that's the only page that flashed in my mind and I liked the parallel story telling.

mountain lion vs. house kitten ass screams š
I am not even being facetious or ironic when i say everyone who has the opportunity to watch Backrooms (2026) high should absolutely do it, it adds such an incredible level to the surrealism and uncanniness that the horror relies on
Canāt really articulate it properly but. Something about Clark and the need for ownership being a repeated theme throughout the movie. Something about how he constantly emphasizing that it was his house, his store, his money that pays for everything. Or the way he refers to the copies as āfurnitureā and treats them as such despite the fact they do show some sentience. The way he treated Mary as a means to justify his not wanting to leave and his refusal to change. The fact that Clark eats from the copies and the Captain eats people.
The Captainās ādenā being filled with piles of clothes and pieces of the cardboard cutout it destroyed. The piles of furniture in the middle of rooms. Something about the Captainās hostility at people that enter Backrooms possibly from seeing them as an invasion upon his space, his house, threatening change in a place he does not want it. Trying to gain control over your life by trying to own and control everything around you. Is this anything
I canāt believe how misogynistic the Backrooms fandom is when thereās 4 characters in the movie
This might be a hot take, but I thought what they did for the "monster" of the Backrooms was ABSOLUTELY GENIUS! How it organically builds upon how the Backrooms work, how it connects to the real world and its people (specifically Clark), and how it creates something that is dangerous and terrifying, and yet at the same time, frighteningly human!
Let me ask you something. Do you think it's interesting that out of all the "people" that were in the Backrooms, Clark's was the only one that was actually dangerous and was actually going around killing people? That's because the Backrooms remembers things in the real world, and "the more times it remembers, the less it does" until it only remembers the details that stand out the most, like how, when you remember a childhood bedroom, you only remember specific furniture or decorations. And the same goes for people!
Because Clark's life is dominated by his anxieties, frustration, fears, and, most importantly, his desire to lash out at everything he thinks is to blame, the Backrooms only remembered those negative feelings. And eventually they all culminated into this dangerous entity. Just like how he lashed out and attacked others that he believes are the fault of where he is, this entity of his own (unintentional) making lashes out and attacks everyone in sight, because, as you can see by the expression on its face, it too is driven by those same anxieties and fears!
That's what makes this my favourite Backrooms entity! Because it's not just another murderous fiend that kills for the heck of it. It's something that beautifully and brilliantly connects to the world it's a part of, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD, and helps make Clark one of the best horror movie "villains" in recent memory!
