like i'm gonna be real-- this is not good. they can now frame the left as the violent and dangerous people that they've wanted to all this time. they can now actually claim to be the victims that they've been saying they are this whole time. they can use this as a mandate to crack down on everyone who opposes them. with biden already in freefall this is the galvanizing thing that will make those who were unsure about aligning with the democrats the motivation to swing to the republicans in droves. it will give the already united republicans the "moral" authority to condemn not only the elected officials in the democratic party but characterize the entire progressive movement as violent anarchists based on social media reactions. if we were cooked before, we've just entered the flash fryer.

One time I was in Argentina and I was so tired of trying to speak Spanish because I’m not very good at it lmao so I broke into exasperated English and the retail seller girl quickly understood me and engaged me in conversation. We talked for a while, she introduced me to a makeup brand, and then I decided to buy it. While she was packaging the purchase, she asked me if I were from the US or perhaps the UK and I just said “oh no I’m Brazilian hahah” and she looked me straight in the eyes and said, in clear Portuguese, “I’m Brazilian too”

When my dad went to China on a work trip, his Mandarin speaking wasn’t great but his listening was fine (his first language is Cantonese) and he encountered a German guy who had moved to China to work. My dad knew how to speak German because he studied it in university (but wasn’t great when it came to listening to new vocab he hadn’t studied before), and the German guy knew Mandarin because he lived and worked in China, so they had a conversation where my dad spoke to the German guy in German and the guy responded in Mandarin. I’m sure it confused a lot of their coworkers who just saw the Asian guy speaking German and the white guy speaking Mandarin.

Some years ago, I worked for a manufacturing company that had a service depot in China.  One of the engineers from the main office here in the US spent most of his time at the depot.  The problem was that he didn’t speak *any* of the various Chinese languages, and no one at the depot spoke any English. They all, however, spoke Spanish.

AND even if a Jew IS a zionist it still does not automatically mean they are evil and support genocide. There are many zionists working for peace and doing what they can to help palestinians. Have some fucking nuance. The same people I see begging for this site to have nuance are the ones going "everyone not on my side is the devil"

listen i get ppl are frustrated and scared but can we please stop using the term “pro-pal” when “anti-jewish/antisemitic activists” is more accurate. bc i feel like the term is focusing more on what these ppl claim to be for rather than the actual impact they’re actually having on jews. like idk it just feels like more internet-ization of a war that’s killing thousands of ppl, which i thought we all agreed was. bad.

i think a lot of you, including my fellow jews, do not know how to talk about the Diaspora accurately. stop calling me, a mizrahi jew, “a jew of middle eastern/north african descent.” i descend from the israelites, i come from the land of judea. i will always be proud of my family’s Diasporic experiences, identities, and cultures, but you make a fundamentally harmful mistake by understanding the categories of jews (ashkenazim, sephardim, etc) as dependent on where we came from. the Diaspora is and will always be important to the jewish experience, but it is not how we define ourselves, and it is not where we come from as a people.

we are not an ethnoreligious group because we are made up of different major ethnicities. we are an ethnoreligious group because we descend from a singular place.
