I'm bringing outdoor plants inside and was about to spray them with a homemade insecticide of oil and dish soap. Have you ever done this and had any thoughts on it?
Did it once on a tomato plant and it killed the plant. Never again... :/
Dish soap strips protective oils off the plant! Just use a store bought insecticide soap or just the insecticidal oils.

letâs hunt men down
feminismâs goal is not equality between the sexes. it is not about having equal rights as men. men have attained their rights through their oppression of women so those rights can only exist in harmony with womenâs subjugation. striving to be equal to men - menâs privileges becoming human privileges - is assuming men are the gold standard of humanity. the male as norm is an implication that menâs atrocities against women throughout history is just inevitable natural order.

women who among us just posted an article about how concept sex offender registry being full of innocent men who just wanted to pee is fake. can't find it
thank you women
When I was a kid, on long trips to Maine, my mom would pull over whenever someone had to pee and let us out to go find a nearby tree to reli
"Also, I have scoured the internet and legal research databases and havenât found a single case of anyone in America ever being forced to register for public urination."
i'm saving this article for whenever reddit freak males bring this fallacy up
there is something seriously wrong with men
I was reading a blog post from a woman who's basically ruined her life and her marriage by getting a huge, reactive dog and prioritizing the dog over everything else in her life
she describes the dog as being like her baby/child as she doesn't have any kids, which is pretty standard with pet owners
but multiple, separate comments from men were saying there was a sexual undercurrent to the blog post, that the woman must be experiencing sexual attraction to the dog, one even replied that she was probably actually having sex with it
there was NOTHING sexual in the blog post whatever, not even remotely
she just talked about how it's interfered with her social life, work life, relationship with her parents and so on
the way she described how the dog had upended her life and how she was constantly having to plan her schedule around it with regards to making food for it and making sure it wasn't left alone too long was similar to the way women talk about having young children
the language she was using was MATERNAL not SEXUAL
but a bunch of men individually read it and immediately interpreted it as sexual attraction
literally why tf are men like this??
It's projection, because they're so sex-obsessed that they can't imagine caring about someone so much without wanting to have sex with them. Remember that this is the demographic that rapes dogs and farm animals, so it's hardly surprising that their minds went there.
Jenny Nicholson dropped this extremely lenient line 5 years ago about cartoon characters, but it so blatantly applies to all areas of male emotion. Don't forget they choose to be this way, and then act like zero empathy is the default human state.
I was not expecting a woman to just straight up go "wa wa wa" into a microphone

Re: My Post about the âTea Appââ an App for women to post about shitty men theyâve dated (or questioning if men they are dating / interested in are shitty)
The whole premise of the OG Tea App is womenâs safety. To post men who: are abusive, rapists, misogynistic, womanizer, etc.
I just wanted you all to know that men have created a counter app for women, I wonât share the name for reasons Iâll explain soon. It was up for only 24 hours.
Do you want to know why it was only up for 24 hours?
Because men were using the website to post revenge porn of their ex girlfriends/wives/others.
When the Tea App started gaining traction and popularity, there was meltdowns from men all over the country. Men threatening lawsuits, men who are worried about being âfalsely accusedâ of being rapists, abusers, and shitty men overall.
But the biggest outcry was men saying âWe need an app like that for us men!!! Women can be shitty too!!!â But look what they did. Instead of proving a point that these women are these evil, manipulative, gold digging human beingsâ they prove our point. That men are, deep down, abusive predators. Opportunists, who would take ANY chance to hurt women.
Men are the wolves in sheepâs clothing. Men are barbaric, misogynistic, and sick.
âWhen men are scared of dating, theyâre scared about getting used or being catfished. When women are dating, they are scared about being raped or murdered.â

I am fucking sick of seeing man haters that call themselves feminists
Stop.
Iâm fucking sick of wishy washy wanna-be feminists who throw other women under the bus for not catering to men with enough conviction. Stop demonizing your sisters for not being palatable enough to our oppressors.
We are trying to be equal not superior.
Said it before and will say it again: Iâm not interested in achieving equality within a corrupt system. Iâm interested in liberation from the corrupt system all together.
âwe are trying to be equal not superiorâ speak for yourself.
Controversial take and yet backed up by studies⊠women are superior.
âIâm so tired of seeing women defend themselves and call themselves feminists, will someone please think of the feelings of men!!!â
Tfw when men do that thing where they pretend they have no control over their temper. LOL Itâs so funny like am I supposed to pretend that I donât know youâre completely self-aware and present during this rage performance. Or should I pretend youâre the tortured hero in a movie, possessed by a series of fabricated flashbacks of the war and your father
Someone put in the âWhy Does He Do Thatâ quote
Another one:
"Abuse is a problem of values, not of psychology... An abuser tries to keep everybody - his partner, his therapist, his friends and relatives - focused on how he feels, so that they won't focus on how he thinks, perhaps because on some level he is aware that if you grasp the true nature of his problem, you will begin to escape his domination."
I can just imagine saying âlobotomies are badâ in like 1949 and having someone say âyouâre wrong, the science is settled, lobotomies are the best way to treat mental illnessâ and guess what? In 1949 I might be the unpopular and socially wrong one. The person with the backwards, conservative thinking. That is the year that AntĂłnio Egas Moniz won the Nobel Prize for lobotomies.
Lobotomies are still bad, but a lot of people have now understood that itâs a deeply harmful and anti-human practice. It was often performed on women (60% of cases were women in the US, a study in Ontario put women patients at 72%) and on gay men. Societal mores have changed on what is psychiatrically appropriateâmany of these women were depressed and repressed housewives, or were not naturally submissive to their husbands and considered âcombativeâ.
Many lobotomies were called âice pick lobotomiesâ because they involved inserting an ice pick through the eye to sever the part of your brain that feels emotions. There were different techniques, largely dependent on which surgeon you saw. Norbert Wiener said in 1948, "Prefrontal lobotomy... has recently been having a certain vogue, probably not unconnected with the fact that it makes the custodial care of many patients easier. Let me remark in passing that killing them makes their custodial care still easier."
In 1944, the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease ran an article saying, âThe history of prefrontal lobotomy has been brief and stormy. Its course has been dotted with both violent opposition and with slavish, unquestioning acceptance."
Walter Freeman called the practice âsurgically induced childhoodââhe specialized in lobotomies and performed them until 1967, so he found this to be a good outcome. In fact, he worked on an âassembly lineâ process where he could lobotomies 20 people a day, and even did a surgical procedure face-off with another doctor in 1948 to compete in an operating theatre to show an audience of doctors that his technique was superior. The other professor was a professor at Yale, William Beecher Scoville, another famous lobotomist known for proliferating the procedure. They called it a miracle cure, and the gold standard for psychiatric treatment.
Scovilleâs most famous patient, Henry Molaison, was a 7-year old boy with epilepsy after a fall from his bike. Schiller couldnât find the problem, so he just destroyed all three regions of Henryâs temporal lobes. Afterwards, the surgeon noted memory loss âso severe as to prevent the patient from remembering the location of the rooms in which he lives, the names of his close associates, or even the way to the toilet or the urinal.â
Scovilleâs wife sought psychiatric care after her husband cheated on her and she had a breakdown. Her husband lobotomized her himself.
In the 1960s, when schizophrenia became a radicalized charged diagnosis that was often used against Black people, especially those involved in the civil rights struggle. Walter Freeman did several pushes to lobotomize Black people, including as young as five, for âhyperactive and aggressive behaviorâ.
The practice continued in some places until the 1980s. It was used to treat schizophrenia, affective disturbance (mood disorders and people reacting in non-mainstream ways like being an opinionated woman or gay), and OCD, chronic neurosis (anxiety), psychopathic disorders, and depression, among other things. You may notice the old names for these thingsâthings that we might not consider the same way now. Being gay was a mental disorder. Women who wanted independence or respect were often diagnosed. Not fulfilling your traditional societal role was a good way to end up institutionalized.
It was considered, at time of invention, to be an humane alternative to insulin comas and shock therapy (ECT). Many people considered it lifesaving and gold standard treatment for mental illness. Some reports believe that about a third of patients found the procedure beneficial. Others faced dementia, death, incontinence, inability to speak, paralysis, and other effects. Many people were unable to ever leave care again afterwards, though they were more complacent.
I donât think any scientist who tells you that science is settled is a good scientist. I think that treatments that target people who donât fit the mold of society, people who are countercultural, and people from marginalized groups should be especially criticized. Psychiatry is a very new field. Part of the phasing out of lobotomies had to do with the development of the first medications for psychiatric useâwhich in turn have had their own social, political, and ethical conundrums and misuse. Many could consider Valium (âmotherâs little helperâ) the spiritual successor to the lobotomy.
But in 1949, if I said lobotomies are badâI might have been met with âDo you hate mentally ill people?â âIt works great for most people!â âWithout it, she will just be depressed and kill herselfâ or âMy friend did it and all her problems seem better nowâ.
Lobotomies were bad the whole time.
Excellent tags, didnât want to leave them unseen @jesus-was-a-woman
If Iâve learnt anything from my contact with the bdsm community, the poly community, the geek community and the atheist community is that any social group who claims to ânot to be like other groupsâ and to be"accepting and safe for all" is going to spend a lot of energy hiding the predators within the community and silencing abuse survivors.
if i could only reblog one post, this would be it.
if nothing else, its a basic tolerance paradox: if you are tolerant of everyone, you will eventually become tolerant of intolerance. if you are safe for âeveryoneâ you are by definition safe for predators. its actually really good to discriminate and put rules and lines in the sand down, and expel people who break/cross them.

I think it was seeing how âthe systemâ treated abused women in real time that broke any kind of prison abolition for abusive men for me.
A friendâs husband killed himself after trying to kill her, he had 22 guns stashed in the home and piles of bullets, and she was trapped because divorce laws in our state require that moms stay with husbands for at least 6 months after filing divorce to give them time to âreconcileâ and judges âdonât like to hear he said/she said abuse stories.â
If you have that many guns in your home unlocked around kids, you immediately get carted to prison for 20 years and mom gets your social security payments while sheâs locked up as if you were a dead parent.
Lock these men up, Iâm sorry.
Men canât beat women if they canât access the women they want to beat. Itâs literally that simple.
At this point, fuck restraining orders, youâre going right to jail, I simply donât care anymore.
Iâm tired of dead women and dead kids and funerals for men who were âso awesomeâ after they killed their whole families.
99% of men are bigger, stronger, more powerful than their wives. Their hands and legs are murder weapons against a battered women.
Nah fam. You take the ankle monitor and get stuck in someone elseâs home while you go through your case or you go to prison.
Itâs extremely easy to go through life without ever battering another human.
At the same time, itâs also extremely easy for a man to kill a woman with his bare hands in a matter of seconds.
This is why Iâve become a person who really doesnât believe in second chances for wife beaters anymore.
Someone rig the lottery so I can win $50 million and I can just start cutting checks for a full yearsâ worth of rent/mortgage payments to battered women to get them the fuck out of the state their abusive husband lives in.
This is the sort of thing that makes me more of a prison abolitionist, because most domestic abusers arenât in prison and will never go to prison. Many, if not most, will never be indicted. Women who do illegal things to get away from abusers often do go to prison.
AND: Domestic Violence is 2-4 times more prevalent in police families than in the general population. How many police officers do you see going to prison for beating their wives.
Prison abolition is about structural changes that make people less economically precarious so that they are less likely to commit crimes of poverty and people in unsafe situations are more able to leave because they are not economically dependent on their abuser.
The US Government spends over 80 billion dollars a year on prisons. The states spend a combined 64 billion. If we got rid of prisons today and gave every person in the country an equal share of that money (about $430/year), that could make a lot of peopleâs lives a lot better. That doesnât even count any money spent on policing.
Creating a society in which unfettered violence is allowed by state actors does not make people safer.
Estimates of how many domestic abusers spend time in jail are between 2-10%. Only about a quarter of DV cases are reported, only about â of reported cases result in prosecution, and even at high estimates of 50% of those prosecutions resulting in convictions, thatâs still only about 4% of domestic abusers who are convicted, and not all convictions come with jail time.
So if at least 95% of domestic abusers are already not convicted, it seems like there are very few changes to the status quo around domestic abuse that change with prison abolition. Change the system. Give people less power over others.
Youâre right.
Since we donât take domestic violence seriously enough already, we should let the ones who are convicted out and hope the systemic changes happen fast enough and women donât die during that time.
Whoâs going to make these systematic changes, I donât know, since if we canât lock up domestic abusers, I seriously doubt weâd be willing to pay those domestic abusers or over-recruit them in the workforce to improve their financial situations in the hope they stop beating their wives over it, but idk, maybe a miracle will happen. Iâm sure a check of $430 per person in the United States will solve domestic violence. I mean, we all saw beatings go down when people got their COVID economic stimulus checks, right?
And as we all know, only poor men without economic opportunities beat their wives. Since rich men have other outlets for their anger, we donât have to worry about what incentives to provide those men to stop them from hurting their wives - they never do it! Rich women are never beaten either, itâs not possible to abuse a woman who has a job and health insurance and opportunities.
Thank you for your input.
We would need major structural change to start imprisoning more than 4% of domestic abusers. If weâre picking a major structural change, I pick trying to undo the carceral state. The myth of the carceral state is that weâre locking up the bad and dangerous people, and weâre not. Especially when it comes to domestic violence, the enforcers of the system are the bad dangerous people. They are not locking each other up.
Why continue to support a system actively working against the interests of domestic violence victims.
Itâs possible to abuse anyone, itâs impossible to stop people from hurting other people entirely. Itâs easier to escape violence with money and support. Itâs easier to spot red flags and get out earlier with education and a lack of economic desperation.
Prison abolition isnât about just letting all the prisoners go and zero other change. But I donât believe that defending and extending the carceral state will offer any meaningful change in the amount of domestic violence in this country.
âPrison abolition isnât about letting all the prisoners goâ ok but thatâs literally what it means. No one removed from society in any way for any reason.
A nicer prison is still a prison. A prison with carpets and couches and libraries is still a prison. A prison with computer classes and GED programs and single-person cells and grocery stores and massage therapists is still a prison.
What should have happened to the man who tried to kill my friend, since prison is not an option. He already had a job, he had savings, he had a car, he had family, he had medication and health insurance, he ran a fucking support group for other men. What could have been introduced in his life that would have stopped him from threatening to kill her.
The only thing that prevented her death was her fighting back when he shoved a gun against her head, and then he offed himself. If he hadnât have committed suicide, where should he have gone? Even a secure mental health facility either has locked doors, or is escapable!
Wife-beaters, child molesters, and rapists all deserve to fucking die. Jail for life is the alternative. If we have to be in a world where no one goes to prison then you'd best supply women with poison, knives, and guns. "Prison abolitionists" take your fucking pick, but it's one or the other.
Men don't hurt women and children because uwu they didn't have enough education or opportunities; they do it because they feel entitled to do so. Removing what little consequences they do get doesn't help that.
"Just give more resources to the women so they can leave!" Do you have any idea how difficult is to just upend your life and move cities, let alone province or country? Especially if there are children involved! But you know what? You're right. Let him chase her across the fucking globe and hope she's able to get away each time with these apparently unending resources before he has a chance to kill her and/or her children.
Also why do women always have to upend their lives to escape abuse.
Exactly. We can't put him in jail because blah blah blah, but her having to move out of the house she and possibly her children have lived in, if not the city, province/state, country is fine. We're helping! We gave her resources to leave and no one had to go to jail! :D
So many women are prisoners in their own homes because entitled men think they're property. They don't get parole hearings, or legal representation, or room and board. They just get beat.
Sex offenders have >90% recidivism rate. Their violence shapes the world we live in, constantly limiting the freedom and safety of the women in their communities.
domestic violence and sexual violence are not crimes committed by marginalised males. they're committed by males from every social group. poor, rich, every ethnicity, every income level, every religion. they are crimes caused by misogyny, not deprivation.
im a prison abolitionist in the sense that i think crimes fall into three categories:
something minor you shouldn't go to prison for (because prison is damaging to people).
Something that shouldn't even be a fucking crime (like 'stealing' resources you and/or your children need to live, or a woman killing her abuser)
And the last category - executable offenses (like rape, domestic violence, murder etc)
Most women shouldn't be in prison because they are there due to male violence. Most men shouldn't be in prison because they should've been hanged.
I also think that men have an evident bias and so only women should be working in the police and court system.
I will just never take men seriously when they complain or they're upset by "it's a girl or an abortion" because sure, okay, let's say it's hateful, hurtful, that it's "murder" even, if you want. Let's just say it's misandry, it's bigoted, sexist, whatever you want. Say "men are oppressed", anything.
But where were you when we were discussing the (at minimum) 20 million missing baby girls in china? What do you call that, then?
I will never feel bad for âitâs a girl or an abortionâ jokes, because âitâs a boy or an abortionâ and âitâs a boy or a suffocated/drowned/abandoned/etc. babyâ is a very real thing in several countries
The only, singular country on the planet with normal sex ratios, Iceland, has been topping the World Economic Forum's global gender equality ranking for 15 years in a row. It's either the top or in the top three for nearly all international markers of equality.
And still, 40% of icelandic women have been sexually and/or physically assaulted by men. Nearly half of the women in the world's best country for women have been violated and battered by men.
This is currently the best the world has to offer women.
