Reblog to bonk your mutuals on the head every time they start thinking negatively about themselves
specifically this kind of bonk.
donβt abandon joy because it is brief. donβt commit to solitude because happiness is fleeting. itβs okay that good things do not last forever. itβs okay to simply enjoy a thing for as long as you have it.

I myself have been homeless. Car camped. I can share a few things that can make that time easier.
This is a good good list that unfortunately a lot of people need right now.
Good tips.Β I can vouch for many of these.Β Here are a couple more that have worked for me (U.S.-based): - Get on food stamps before you are actually homeless, if you can.Β Itβs just less complicated that way, but I have also had good luck just being very straightforward with DHS about my situation.Β - The article talks about not paying for storage β I really think your mileage may vary on that one. I paid for a cheap storage unit that I split with my sister for a couple years.Β If you really do have things of value that you want to keep, I say do it if you can find a cheap unit.Β ALSO, I have low-key stayed in my storage unit.Β You canβt do it for long, and depending on the place, it can be sketchy, but it can be done. - National parks and Forest Service campsites.Β Yeah there is definitely the whole day-use only thing but there are some that arenβt monitored.Β They often have bathrooms, and for me, it sometimes felt way safer being away from people. - Hook up with your local Food Not Bombs.Β Itβs usually really good food and run by folks who are used to working outside the system.Β You might be able to make friends and score a place to live or stay. - When I knew that I wasnβt going to be able to afford rent for the foreseeable future, I bought myself a cheap travel trailer.Β 600 bucks and Iβve lived in it for almost five years now.Β Friends are way more likely to let you live indefinitely in their driveway or on their land than endlessly crashing on their couch.Β I do work-trade or pay what I can for utilities.Β If your car canβt haul it (mine canβt), rent a U-Haul truck for a day to get it where you need it to be.Β Obviously this requires some cash, but if you can swing it, it can really save your ass in the long run. - Make a plan for bad weather β heat waves and cold snaps can kill.Β Heat is worse for me where I live, so I make sure to have a list of spots I can escape to.Β This is where those national parks can sometimes come in handy, but also think about overpasses, city parks with lots of shade, abandoned buildings.Β Know where your local cooling/warming shelters are.Β Keep some money stashed away if you can to pay for cheap motel rooms during the worst weather.Β If you can split the cost of a room with friends, even better. - Have a few strategically stashed canisters of mace or pepper spray.Β - But at the same time, look out for each other.Β You donβt have to become bosom buddies with everyone else on the street, but treating each other like humans is both good for your mental and emotional health and also youβll find that people are often really amazingly generous with their resources and knowledge.
Good advice. Storage is also one of those thing that a friend might be able to help you with. Cheap storage options are often damp or not as secure as youβd like. That might be a bad place to put your childhood photo albums, electronics, important paperwork, favorite dress, those expensive shoes you bought onceβ¦ If a friend is willing to store a few boxes of stuff, at least you know those things are safe and dry.
etc.

I know i've said it before, but if you are concerned it could be real and not a scam, the best way to avoid getting scammed is to return contact separately.
Here's how that works:
say you get a text from your internet provider, let's say it's Comcast (whom i hate). So you have this text that says it's from Comcast about your bill with a contact number and a clickable link -- could be real, could be a scam.
Don't touch anything about this text. Open a web browser and look up the customer service number for Comcast. Or get the number from the bill they send you. However you do it, get the contact info for Comcast from a trusted source, like an official phone directory or the Comcast website itself.
Get in touch with them using that information.
So. Let's run the example both ways it could go.
If it IS a scam: you reach out to Comcast and tell them you were contacted about a problem with your bill, they look you up in their customer database, and they tell you there is no problem with your bill.
If it's NOT a scam, you do the same thing, they look you up, and they explain the problem. In this case, neither Comcast nor the employees involved give a single shit whether or not you clicked the link in the text vs. going through their official website.
This works the same for the your bank, the IRS, Amazon, political causes, charities, everything.
By handling any questionable incoming calls to action this way, you significantly protect yourself from scams and malware and shit
You can do this with phone calls too!!! If a company calls you asking for some info or about a problem with you card/account/whatever you can ask them for a reference number for your case and call back later. You don't have to give a reason but if you feel awkward you can just say you have a meeting in 2 minutes but can call back another time to deal with it.
If it's not scam they'll be like sure, here's the reference number. Then you follow the instructions above, call the separate number you find yourself on a reputable website and give that person the reference number. And they'll help you resolve the issue.
Don't let scammers scare you over the phone into giving them sensitive information!!!!
great addition ^^^
The trusted source part is important -- make sure you get the contact info off an email/official mail that you are 100% certain is theirs, or off a website that you are 100% certain is theirs! Do not google it and assume that the first result is correct -- scammers have been known to use SEO and data poisoning tricks to put their own fake contact numbers at the tops of these searches. It's a lot of work so it doesn't happen all the time, but it does occasionally happen.
You can get bank information off the back of your debit card usually.
So one time I got a scary scam call supposedly from the police where they had a surprising amount of information about me AND the caller ID number matched my police office. And they said they'd come arrest me if I hung up and called back.
I hung up and called back.
The incredibly bored lady at the actual police office phone confirmed it was a scam.
Scammers can spoof website urls and phone numbers to make it look like they're coming from legit sources. Initiate independent contact anyway.
Reminder to self: A file folder of outlines and character notes and half-written scenes is the equivalent of an artistβs sketchbook and holds just as much value to the creative process.
If a framed canvas isnβt the only worthwhile expression of visual art, then a fully edited and polished piece of significant length is not the only worthwhile expression of writing.
ohhhh shit. target is recalling their up & up baby wipes (fragrance free & fresh cucumber scented) because they're contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli, multiple people are reporting discoloration & infections. i just got a call about it cuz i had purchased those but i've already gone through them π so no refund for me. but im fine. if you have these they're saying you need to immediately stop using them and bring them back to target for a full refund. this bacteria can cause life threatening infections in children/infants and people with compromises immune systems (ESPECIALLY cystic fibrosis!!) and i know lots of other chronically ill people follow me!!!!
Hold on i should've been more specific.
First: THIS RECALL IS NOT STATE SPECIFIC. IT IS NATIONWIDE.
here are the specific products and dates:

Does this count as finding a walrus at your door?
Absolutely, and definitely less surprising than a fairy
I will concede, in this specific circumstance, it makes more sense
I would like to wish people who will bad mouth someone openly in a language they presume they won't understand a very unexpected bilingual encounter.

There is a kind of grief that comes with constantly having to decide whether something is worth the energy it will cost you.
I think a lot of disabled people carry that grief quietly.
