Can you design your own version of Pitch as the Guardian of Courage, I was mostly inspired by fics that have him retain his role as the Nightmare King, he has better control of his powers and now uses them to test the children's bravery and teach them to be safe.
Inspired from this design
Thank you so much for the request/inspo!! I hope you like how it turned out! đ¤
I went for a knight/general design rather, because a.) Pitch's background b.) I almost associated knights with courage and protection, so I though it might be a nice touch :) + he literally rode a horse xD

Jack did not know how he and Pitch were still friends.Â
Itâd been a few days but he was still mortified over how heâd handled those candies. Usually he didnât let social slip ups bother him. If someone wanted to be offended by his playful or carefree attitude, especially after centuries of mainly talking to himself, then the relationship probably wasnât worth his time.Â
Pitch⌠hadnât been offended per se. More like rendered speechless. Instead of Jack trying to explain himself or, more likely, talk himself into a deeper hole, heâd kind of just⌠thanked Pitch and ran.Â
Fuck.Â
Those candies were good too. And well. He had kept his promise.
âŚ
Jack felt himself blush. He had been reminded of Pitch the entire time. Thinking of the way heâd probably shaped each of those stars with long, artistic fingers. His deep concentration as he brought something beautiful to life. The way those eyes would soften admiring his work in a way that made Jack enviousâŚÂ
With ice on his fingertips, Jack slapped his hands to his face. Okay okay. Clean slate. He was gonna drop by Pitchâs place and act like everything was normal. That he could behave normal. Whatever that meant. He was just⌠regular happy-go-lucky Jack visiting his very intense dramatic friend.Â
âŚFriends totally danced together in almost tangoes and gave each other candies. He would hear no argument.Â
Unfortunately when heâd arrived in the lair, Pitch was being kind of⌠squirrely.Â
Fidgeting came to Jack naturally. If he wasnât twirling Twiner around, swaying on his feet, or poking at something, he was either asleep or concentrating too hard. Pitch didnât fidget. His steps were always with poise and purpose. He could stay posed like a statue for hours if he wanted to (and Jack certainly didnât mind the view). He only really let loose when he was dancing.Â
So it was a bit odd seeing him moving almost as much as Jack in idle conversation.Â
When Jack shifted his weight from one foot to another, he noticed Pitch do the opposite. When Jack was making a point complete with hand gestures (because he absolutely took the bait to Pitchâs teasing), he leaned in and nearly dropped Twiner in shock when Pitch leaned in too.Â
And then jerked back just the same.Â
Jackâs laugh sounded nervous to his ears. âHey, um. Are you⌠feeling okay today?âÂ
Pitchâs eyes widened a fraction, something Jack wouldnât have noticed if he hadnât been studying Pitch so closely. âPerfectly fine. Why do you ask?âÂ
Shit, Jack didnât want to have to spell this out. Maybe Pitch always did this? Maybe he was making a big deal out of nothing? Maybe he was actually studying Pitch a little too much and was about to out himself?...Â
âJustâŚâ Jack started, taking a somewhat exaggerated step forward. Pitch hesitated for a moment, but ultimately followed suit, mirroring him, looking so guilty that Jack had to bite his lip to not laugh in Pitchâs face. âJust that! What is that? Is this a joke? You havenât been doing that for weeks and Iâm only noticing now, have you?âÂ
Pitch frowned. Glared, though it was down at their positioned feet, then let out what sounded like a frustrated sigh. When he turned his head to the side, Jack could make out a bit of color on the tip of his pointy ear. Pitch was embarrassed and Jack needed to not coo at him like he was a kitten.Â
â...No, I have not been doing this for weeks. Itâs⌠Iâm testing something.â Pitch settled on.Â
Jack tilted his head sideways. Huh? âTesting? What are we testing? How quick we can start a flash dance?âÂ
Pitch huffed. Huffed and tilted his head the other way. âNo, itâs⌠Itâs something my people would do. Something of a âŚcompatibility test.âÂ
Jack immediately flushed. Compatibility for what??Â
Pitch raised his hands as he explained himself. âIâm not mocking you, itâs meant to show respect. That I can follow your lead. That I can and will⌠make space for you.âÂ
Oh there was going to be nothing left of Jack but a puddle at this point. What did he even do with that? It was so⌠sweet. The dance, the candies, now this?Â
Without really being conscious of it at all, Jack walked right up to Pitch, let his staff fall to the ground, and wrapped his arms around Pitchâs middle. If he didnât at least hug this man, he was going to cry. Or explode, he couldnât be sure.Â
âWhat the fuck, Pitch,â Jack laughed, fighting a sniffle. âYou donât have to⌠I mean. Iâm honored? Or like. Did I pass? I donât really know what to say to that.âÂ
âIâm probably explaining it horribly,â Pitch grumbled above him, slowly bringing his arms around Jack and it was the most at home heâd felt ever. âIâm probably not even doing it right but itâs good to know I havenât scared you off.âÂ
âGonna take more than that to scare me off,â Jack assured, his smile out of control when their eyes met. âI would probably knock our heads together if I tried that so yâknow. Iâll just tell you, I will make space for you too. Plenty to spare.âÂ
There it was. That soft look. Jack had done something right and he could have kissed Pitch for it.Â
âŚShit, he had it bad.Â
âThank you, Jack,â Pitch said eventually, an artistic hand patting the top of his head and he did his best not to swoon. Â
âDonât need to thank me for that,â Jack winked, âJust, give a guy some time to study next time thereâs a test.â
(Thank you to @esurideum for the idea of complementary posture! :D )
There were times where all Pitch wanted to do was dig his fingers in, pull Jackâs body tight, keep him so close that he could be comfortably caged within Pitchâs ribs.Â
Where they would never be two lonely spirits again.

Pitch would be the first to defend how necessary nightmares were. All Sandy did was smooth over fractures of the psyche with fluff. StillâŚÂ
When Pitch found Jack napping on his couch, golden little penguins dancing around his head, he hesitated.Â
He couldnât bring himself to break that soft smile.Â
(Hi hello I am not dead just busy and maybe punching my way through writerâs block. đ More for the Unfamiliar Customs AU coming eventually. I just wanted to throw SOMETHING out there đ¤đ)
It had started fine, Jack laughing as they twirled across the floor. Only when Jack decided to get on his own two feet to mimic his steps did Pitch realize they were doing it backwards.Â
He hardly could have asked Jack to just unlearn and reverse everything theyâd done. It was miracle enough Pitch remembered what the orbit dance even was, yet he had a fuzzy, long repressed memory of a soldier in his barracks being mocked for orbiting backwards with his beloved, opposite to the starset.Â
A rookie mistake, he remembered thinking. And yet.Â
Pitch was glaring daggers at his stone countertop. Fumbling the orbit dance was supposedly a bad omen.Â
Of course, nothing seemed wrong with the wide smile on Jackâs face that night. He had no idea of the distress going on in Pitchâs head. He was merely happy to be doing something new. Said they should do it again some time. Seemed reluctant to even let Pitch go.Â
And that was why Pitch was in his kitchen attempting to melt sugar into a confection that resembled a star.Â
Star candies had been a delicacy in their home. They may have traditionally been meant for new and prospective couples, but Seraphina and her mother loved them. He always brought a box back when he returned home from a mission.Â
Never in a thousand years did Pitch think he would try his hand at making them.Â
It wasnât going to be the same, of course. Earth didnât have glowsugar for starters, and Pitch didnât have a recipe to work from. Jack just deserved better than some random candy. Earth couples seemed too hung up on chocolates anyway. A star candy would be something special.Â
And so, after days of perfecting his recipe and getting the shape just right, he presented his offering to Jack.Â
Only to be mildly horrified when Jack popped one in his mouth andâ
Crunch.Â
Shattered. In one bite.Â
Jack licked his lips after swallowing the sweet little shards, already plucking another one out of the bag Pitch gave him. âWhereâd you get these, huh? Tastes kind of like⌠fruity cream soda.â
Crunch.Â
ââŚI made them,â Pitch explained on autopilot, still stunned and a little impressed by that jaw strength. âSomething I remembered from⌠the before times, is what youâd say.â
That made Jack stop.Â
âHoly shit, since when do you make candy?!â Jack sounded rather stunned himself. âIs my tongue gonna turn black or something? Thatâd be⌠kinda cool, maybe.â
Pitch sighed and folded his arms. Oh Jack and his fondness for pranks. âThat⌠could be an interesting idea but no. I meant, before I was the Nightmare King. Call me nostalgic, I suppose.â
Jackâs expression grew more serious, until a burst of color flooded his pale cheeks and suddenly he could only stare down at the little sugar stars in his hand. âBut you gave them to me?âŚâÂ
âI thought you might enjoy them.â Pitch kept his tone cool and his arms crossed, but took a step closer. Better to study (read agonize over) Jackâs reaction. âAlthough youâre supposed to suck on them. The ones I remember, the flavor would last for hours. Theyâre supposed to⌠remind you of who gave them to you.âÂ
Damnit all, now his face was feeling warm. Good thing Jack wasnât looking.Â
âWha-! Shit, Iâm sorry!â Jack held his hands up, full as they were, in surrender. âBad habit of mine. I used to like crunching on ice a lot. UhââÂ
Blue eyes suddenly met gold. Jack had something extremely important to tell him.Â
âI promise I will suck on every last one!â
(Iâm thinking I will format this into a 5+1 type fic by the end. Thank you for the ideas so far, please hit me up with more courting things for these idiots to fuck up đ¤Ł)
(Iâm diving hard into the idea behind Unfamiliar Customs so HERE WE GO đ¤Ł)
âYouâre quiet tonight,â Jack remarked innocently as Pitch guided them across the stone floor. Music was softly echoing through the lair. Pitch had said he wanted to dance, and Jack would never pass that up, so Pitch had him learning the finer points of the waltz.Â
Seemed like he was concentrating awfully hard though.Â
âIt wouldnât do to step on your bare feet,â Pitch retorted, though not with his usual snappiness.Â
âMmhm.â Jack didnât believe him. And that was weird. When Pitch was trying to be cagey, he got cryptic or angry. Not weird.Â
So Pitch deserved every bit of his suspicious glare.Â
Pitch stopped altogether when he noticed, sighing, almost âŚsheepish? Something was weird.Â
âI actually⌠wanted to show you a different dance. Are you up for it?âÂ
Jack blinked. Was that all? âYeah, Iâm up for anything. Letâs do it.âÂ
Pitch nodded, steeling himself, and Jack had to wonder was he actually nervous? Jack bit his lip and tried not to chuckle. He shouldnât find that so cute.Â
âAlright, here.â Pitch stepped up, a lot closer than the waltz, and oh. There was an arm around his back and their chests were flush. Pitch positioned Jackâs hand up on his shoulder, and held his other hand out from their bodies. Almost like a tango.Â
Oh Gods was Pitch teaching him the tango?! Jack felt immediately warmer and was so grateful his palms couldnât sweat.Â
âŚRight?
âYou can put your feet on mine while I demonstrate. Itâs⌠almost like a waltz.âÂ
Jack used the opportunity to look down and hide his blush, carefully stepping up onto Pitchâs shadow covered feet.Â
Footies, he corrected internally. They were footies and nothing could convince him otherwise. Jack couldnât hold back his laughter and muffled it right into Pitchâs chest. This was so ridiculous! He couldnât handle all this anticipation and then get hit with the reminder of Pitchâs footies.Â
And then blush all the brighter when his eyes landed on sculpted gray skin because his face landed right into the plunge of that deep v-neck. Fuck.Â
He peeked up at Pitch, surprised to see the Boogeyman a little flushed himself.Â
â...We donât have tââÂ
âNo no!â Jack hastily cut that suggestion off and straightened back up. âIâm good, sorry. Please, show me. I want to know.âÂ
I want you to teach me.Â
Pitch took a breath, and finally smiled, putting Jack at ease. He could handle this. He could lock the fuck in for as long as Pitch was willing to indulge him.Â
âItâs a simple dance,â Pitch explained, slowly stepping them forward. âWeâll go in a circle and slowly turn in a circle, and then Iâll guide you in a circle around⌠me.â He could have sworn Pitchâs cheeks got darker when he said that. âUnderstand?âÂ
Jack nodded, his toes trying to clench into whatever the material covering Pitchâs feet was. âI think so. Just donât be mad if I get dizzy and trip okay?âÂ
âIf you focus on me you wonât get dizzy. Thatâs⌠Itâs supposed to be symbolic that way.âÂ
Jack gave Pitch a mischievous grin. âSymbolic, huh?â Pitch wanted to get symbolic with him?Â
He kind of liked the sound of that.Â
Pitch didnât answer. Merely pulled Jack closer with a familiar smirk and guided them into the next step in time with the music. âEyes on me, Snowflake.âÂ
Jack snickered. As if he could look anywhere else.Â
(Idk how the rest of this is gonna go but whatever letâs see what happens.
Also please hit me with silly courting ideas đ)

Thin fingers were clenched tightly into Pitchâs robe. Jack was having a blast clinging to his back, laughing and hollering as Pitch steered Onyx from the sky and plunged down through the shadows below.
Frost lightning flashed in their wake. Â
Pitch grinned. What went better together than fear and fun?
